Also a top 3 tagger in the comp

Yep, tbh I don't want to see him playing a tagging role. IMO he can offer a lot more but just hasn't had the opportunity at the swans. I also think he's paid his dues doing the team role and now it's time for him to be a bit selfish and play a role which suits him.

You could for example instruct him to go head to head with the best opposition midfielder (non tagging role) but also win the footy. His defensive skills are such that he'll do a good job negating the opposition player while also winning the footy.

Plays in any arc, but hopefully we use him in the middle, unless he takes Stocker's role at HB, then add Stocker to the middle
Sounds like he will be a good get.

Would like to see what stocker can offer as a mid. We all love his tufness but playing midfield is probably hardest position to play in. Lot riding on winning clearances as we saw dees midfield dominance against doggies.

Ideally stocker works on his Explosive running. He has a thick core and with good running power he could become a difficult player to tackle similar to petracca and dusty.

Not much in the way of highlights for hewy. What would he be considered, B or B+ grade?

Hewett isn't a flashy player. He just goes in, does what he is asked to do week in week out. Will barely notice him when he is playing for you but he will also be one of the first selected for your team every week.

Thats exactly what I mean. I dont rate taggers that can only tag. But with players like Hewett they can do job yet still have their own impact

Also maybe not a big need at Carlton given you have Walsh and Cripps but when he is put in the centre as an inside mid Hewett is actually quite good. I was always annoyed Longmire did not use him in that role more. Kennedy misses a game, Hewett plays in the centre, has a good game but is immediately moved back to the tagger role the moment Kennedy comes back.

Dont think you have a lot to complain with when it comes to Longmire. Best coach in the AFL imo

My favorite kind. Well ok not very favorite but right up there.

I honestly don't think it's sunk in for some fans how exactly lucky we've gotten this offseason.

Quibbling over a a second round pick for Serra is pointless if that's what it takes to get it done quick and fast.

The amount of overpay we've had to trade and spend for players the previous few years has been ridiculous.

Yet this season, literally out of no where we've had two top onballers land in our laps.

Not enough praise is being given to Austin for being super active during this period when everything else was in such upheaval at the club.

Agree.

Because of everything else, our energy has been exhausted by the President, CEO, Coach, assistants changes that the players coming in has been an after thought on the fans minds.

However with all the other distractions, Austin has stayed the course and has been doing what is needed to be done.

For all the noise about player movement, the two best players are coming to us.

Additionally, we have done a remarkable job at retaining players. Yes, SPS has requested a trade, but that is not due to anything else but him wanting more game time and closer to home. For a club that was in such upheaval, that is mighty impressive.

Well done to Austin and co

Absolutely.

He's only just getting started too so I don't mind if we lose a few fringe players if it brings in some extra picks and let him go to work in the draft because I have a fair bit of faith he is capable of finding some later pick gems.

Great read about a Hewett in a school cup final match. Trying to fathom this a little. Country boy from a wheat/barley farm in the Spencer Gulf, brand new to an Adelaide boarding school, forces his way as a Year 10 into the First XVIII. Who is this kid they must be thinking? Breaks his wrist mid-game, plays on, inspiring his team to a 1-pt win. Found out after the game what damage he actually had. They still talk about this story apparently at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide.

This won't be lost on Vossy.....the couragous bit I hope, not the stupidity aspect.

Only player to make the AFL from his Port Broughton town. Local pub has a "George Hewett Happy Hour" every AFL game he plays.
Publican ? Phil CAMPOREALE, relative of Scott.

I'm liking this fella more and more

I'm going to miss his exquisite skills off both feet. He isn't a penetrating kick but if he gets onto his right foot and finds himself covered then he simply spins onto his left and still hits a target. He seems to have all the time in the world. He has always been a joy to watch for us and it will hurt a bit to see him at another club, but I know of nobody who has anything but respect for George.
Congratulations if you land him.
