We have a KPD named Ethan Baxter as part of our academy to draft this year. He looked pretty good last year, a tad undersized (192cm) for a key back though.
Never heard of him. Intrigued though.

I'm not sure I agree with this comment.
Our team is HUGE upside coming with natural improvement. The list improving players people are talking about on here, are not list improving, at all.

Richmond are Richmond, they know where we are at. If we go 100% in on the draft, it's for a reason.
Speed is the key. Older guys are only going to get slower with time. On the G with our speed im still confident.

What do you reckon we get?

Or
We try and upgrade our first pick from 21 to their 17. Essentially swap picks and give them Higgins, but im not sure if they go for that.

Yeah ok. Is there much difference between 17 and 21? I have done no draft research at all this year.

I suppose moving up just allows us to try move further if we want

GTFO Geelong

Act like campaigners when Kelly had legitimate going home reasons and demanded the world for him. Now a bloody Coleman Medalist wants to come your way and you cry foul. Hope the Giants take you to the cleaners

Bad deal for us. Giving up Higgins to move up 4 spots would be a rip off, especially when their 17 will be about 20-21 after NGA bids.

Suppose that then makes our 21 more like 25-26

If we angled for the pick upgrade, I wouldn't be surprised if we asked for a fourth round selection coming back as well to ensure we have the points for Rioli.
Ultimately, I think the closer we are to the top 20 the better. NGA bids and stuff will push us out, but the talent getting chosen outside of those players doesn't change.
If we go for the pick upgrade, we are still going to pick either for a specific need, or best available at our selection.

Im not sure if that made sense.

Reckon this years draft is really going to show whos recruiters are on the ball. With little to no footy in Vic then a lot of it will be on last years work and predicting who's going to take a jump. Pretty pumped for the draft actually and reckon we should be able to snare a couple of decent kids

Ignore the NGA players as they are always going to get picked up. If you focus on the players outside of NGA, moving up those four spots could be crucial.
I didn't include it in my original post, but to make it a bit more of an even trade, we could have a 4th round pick coming back as well.

I just think people undervalue how important it could be to move up those four places in the draft, which is why I think St. Kilda is more likely to knock it back.

Yeah although if they want him they are going to have to give up something of value

should help the hawks rebuild lol

Strange move. They already have Frost, Hartley, McEvoy 🤣 , O'Brien, Sicily 🤕, Jiath, Koschitzke all on the list

Agree. Especially if we'll take minimal selections in the draft, upgrading our earlier picks is better value than taking an additional pick in the middle of the draft.

The Dogs would probably be open to trades on their first, with Ugle-Hagan eating their first selection either way. Not sure it's high enough to get a quality tall, but would be an achievable target to move from 21 to 14.

They would need to be getting something nice to drop that far.

I was working on the basis we could upgrade to 17 via the Saints in a deal on Higgins. Then 17 to 14. Maybe 17 and 2021 second rounder to move up those further 3 spots to 14. Dogs just need the points for JUH. Depends what other offers they get, but would be surprised if they don't move on 14, probably at least partly into next year's draft.

On a slightly different note. Hows the Saints sniffing around the Treloar carcass. Hats off to them they are bloody having a crack.

Im of the same belief that this is what we should do, but the key piece is getting St. Kilda to go for it.
They said they had no intention of trading their first pick for Crouch if Adelaide matched, but we don't know whether they would downgrade it.

Good thing the Scats have Josh Jenkins as backup then..... just in case.... :tearsofjoy:

Was rated reasonably high as an under 16, I know Cal Twomey had spoken about him as a potential top thirty draft pick about eighteen months ago.

From all reports his development slowed down in his underage year last season and he really didn’t have an opportunity to prove himself this year.

AFL Draft Central released their top thirty power rankings earlier this week which also included about a dozen other players who are “in the mix” and Baxter wasn’t mentioned once. It’s obviously a really hard year to gauge how the draft will look but from all reports it’s hard to see him being drafted in the first two rounds.

I’ve never watched him play but based off his size he appears to be more of a Broad or Garthwaite size rather than a genuine KPD.
