He’s looked pretty average to date nowhere near kpp quality , he’s seriously about Garth’s level

CCJ has yet to show much form against a genuine senior defender. I will wait to see how he goes as the 3rd tall before making any final judgment on him - At the moment he seems more like a Mason Coxs type. Which is not completely an insult, but its certainly not a strong compliment

I am not sure about this at all. They have a history of signing the high end picks quickly on 2 year contract extensions at $400-450k pa. This is why for instance they had to salary dump Aiden Bonar to North Melbourne for North’s future 3rd rounder. Jye Caldwell was traded to the Bombers on a similar sort of basis I think. My best guess is if we got Green we’d be inheriting a $400-450k contract.

Still I think this is the sort of thing Richmond should be looking to do, get young talented players in any way we can. Develop the team while we absorb the fat end of the Martin and Lynch contracts over the next 3 seasons or so then with 3 more years into Bolton, Balta, Coleman-Jones/Ryan, Collier-Dawkins, Ralphsmith, Nyuon, Mansell, Colina, Cumberland, Martyn, Stack, Rioli Jnr, Dow and our 2021 draft and trade haul, we should have a good cap position to address any needs at that time. Thus, 2025 will be 2017 all over again. 😁
Not saying you’re wrong, I haven’t been able to find any $ reference , to Green’s contract extension, but 400-450k seems on the high side. Remembering he signed that extension early in2020 at that stage he hadn’t played a game.

By ave he is ranked in the top 20 in the comp for both Goals and Contested marks
Very good numbers for a guy who has only played 5 games
Exactly that’s why I caution the fools who say trade him, look at brander as an example nowhere near the pre draft hype , I could prepare a list as long as your arm of failed talls in first couple a rounds, I standby you need to draft 3 to bet one good one . How are mcasey and worrell going at crows , what about Sam Hayes

Yes I hadn’t heard anything specific to Green I am just joining dots. It did definitely emerge when GWS were looking for another home for Bonar that he had a $400-450k pa contract and this was common practice for GWS to do this with their highly rated draftees. That is, sign them up on a 2 year extension at the earliest possible point, on good money, so there is no chance they get picked off against GWS’s will after their initial two year contract is up.

My only real beef about keeping CCJ or not is that the strong word is - he already possibly wants to leave the club to take a bigger offer elsewhere. If after 5 games and the player we can most closely compare you to is Mason Cox - I am not that motivated to overpay you, especially when your stupidity cost the club $100k in fines last year.

If CCJ was just a matter of "do we re-sign him onto an appropriate contract to his age, experience & talent" - I would say yes all day. But he his put himself in a situation where thats not the case.

Let's put it this way, I would definitely not delist him. But I wouldn't want to pay him near $400k a year either

What key backs are gettable and in decent age bracket?
Probably neither gettable or in a good age bracket but James Stewart is playing his best footy this year. He would be very handy at the moment. It shows you can find these guys in unlikely places.

Plenty of struggling forwards have done well in defence. Brennan Cox is one. Obviously Liam Jones, Howe and Moore are others. Keefe was going well too.

I wonder if Riccardi would be a chance?

CCJ reminds me of Pattison in between player .Slow not very athletic forward and not big enough or athletic enough ruckman. Good mark is all he's got .

I’m at peace if he demands crazy money or leave , my position would be put a serious offer to keep him though

Brennan cox is a great suggestion, still very young but I like him, would take a bit to pry out.
Sam Taylor is the dream and I wonder if they accept ccj and a first for him?

He took a couple of contested marks against a 7 game player that's all he's shown in the AFL .
His is less mobile than Lynch if we can get a late 1st early second pick take it and run .
He might impress you but i don't see him as our next key forward .

Pattison kicked 16 goals in his career from 66 games.

CCJ has 8 goals in 4 games. CCJ is an inch taller and has more weight on him. I don't see the comparison.

CCJ is more athletic at ground level than Tom Lynch who takes a year to pick up the ball and dispose of it. He's fine.

CCJ is a terribly unreliable kick. In his 4 goal game against crows he had an inexperienced opponent, and kicked uncharacteristically well. From what I've seen of him in the VFL (and AFL games since), his action is suspect and unreliable.

And he's too similar to Lynch in being that bigger, slower marking focal point. In the medium term, CCJ doesn't really help us, as we have Lynch and really need a JR replacement as the more mobile second tall forward. I actually think Samson Ryan has the better attributes to build around for that role, despite a forgettable debut game.

If we can get a decent pick for CCJ, I reckon take it, and load up on mids and maybe a KPP depending on who is available in the draft at our picks. Narkle if he's cheap, and I know we've been keen on Cerra since his draft year, so you'd imagine we'll have a crack, but not keen to overpay.
