Pattison kicked 16 goals in his career from 66 games.

CCJ has 8 goals in 4 games. CCJ is an inch taller and has more weight on him. I don't see the comparison.

CCJ is more athletic at ground level than Tom Lynch who takes a year to pick up the ball and dispose of it. He's fine.
Yep CCJ is much better than Lynch ball in hand and on the deck.

CCJ is a terribly unreliable kick. In his 4 goal game against crows he had an inexperienced opponent, and kicked uncharacteristically well. From what I've seen of him in the VFL (and AFL games since), his action is suspect and unreliable.

And he's too similar to Lynch in being that bigger, slower marking focal point. In the medium term, CCJ doesn't really help us, as we have Lynch and really need a JR replacement as the more mobile second tall forward. I actually think Samson Ryan has the better attributes to build around for that role, despite a forgettable debut game.

If we can get a decent pick for CCJ, I reckon take it, and load up on mids and maybe a KPP depending on who is available in the draft at our picks. Narkle if he's cheap, and I know we've been keen on Cerra since his draft year, so you'd imagine we'll have a crack, but not keen to overpay.

We're coming to the end of a dynasty not the beginning. The club needs to think about the future.

Lynch is about to turn 29, is injury prone and can't be relied upon going forward. The injury and surgeries have taken a toll on his body. He is half the athlete he used to be 3-4 years ago at Gold Coast.

You want to rely on him going forward over 21 year old CCJ? Next year on I am betting CCJ is the better player. Hell, compare their stats this year in a similar role and CCJ is outperforming him. 2-3 years from now it won't even be close. Lynch is closer to the end than many people think given his injury history.

If we trade CCJ our club will be laughed at for many years when he tears it up elsewhere. I am not saying get rid of Lynch as I think we keep both with Riewoldt near the end. But if it was one or the other the call is easy.

Given the latest injury to Prestia (hamstring tightness) we have no choice other than to find another like minded player to help RCD develop. Someone like Tom Green or a Hopper type would be great.

I read today that Ugle-Hagan may be gettable - would we be interested as a Jack replacement? Don't come at me for this as I am just asking for opinions - I don't really know if he is okay or not!

If he is traded it'll be of his choice not ours.

For sure. I am more referring to the poster basically saying we should trade him because we have Lynch and Samson.

I am sure the club will be trying their best to keep CCJ and it will come down to money and opportunity.

True. Ultimately we need to replace both JR and Lynch in pretty short time.

My main point was JR replacement is needed before Lynch, who will still be the first forward picked for another couple of seasons at least. And I'm not sure we can play both Lynch and CCJ in the same forward line. So where does that leave CCJ? If there's an overs offer on the table this year, you've got to consider it, I think.

The other thing is in terms of windows he is the same vintage as Bolton and Balta and co. How does it make sense to separate them?

We will see. Other having a height advantage over his opponents, I haven’t seen a hell of a lot else. Could be the next Tom Lynch or could be the next Vickery.

He's played literally 5 AFL games. How many tall forwards burst on to the scene showing what they are capable of in their first few games?

Jack averaged 6.6 touches, 3.2 marks and 0 .9 in his first season of 8 games.
Next year he played 18 and averaged 10.8, 4.8 and 1.0.
Year after that he played 20 and averaged 12.9, 6.3 and 1.6.

He had almost most 50 games and 2.5 season of consistently playing AFL footy to break out.

For Money-Suns no question.
Anything else I think will come down too the rest of the season with Lynch.
(If he hasn't already made up his mind).

CCJ has yet to show much form against a genuine senior defender. I will wait to see how he goes as the 3rd tall before making any final judgment on him - At the moment he seems more like a Mason Coxs type. Which is not completely an insult, but its certainly not a strong compliment

I like CCJ up the ground at times as a hybrid though.

He is more versatile than most are giving him credit for. He is not just a forward, he has value elsewhere

For a tall guy he is not a idiot and he has a go. I have a bit of time for this guy. I like the way he goes about it and I can see why they made him captain as a draftee

He is a bit of an inbetweener possibly but this guy possibly has enough tools in the kitty. I think he could work with Nank as the primary ruck.

His versatility helps him fit into different team combo's

In terms of fitting in with Lynch this guy does not have to be in the forward line all the time either. It makes it more workable when both can get up the ground especially if one at a time doing different things

Terribly unreliable kick , lol ok . I was pissed when he gave off to short as I backed him to kick it , he’s barely missed his set shot and I remember that pass in his first game wasn’t from one labeled as “terribly unreliable “ what a crok of shit

Probably neither gettable or in a good age bracket but James Stewart is playing his best footy this year. He would be very handy at the moment. It shows you can find these guys in unlikely places.

Plenty of struggling forwards have done well in defence. Brennan Cox is one. Obviously Liam Jones, Howe and Moore are others. Keefe was going well too.

I wonder if Riccardi would be a chance?
Riccardi was the one that I said would be playing vfl by r4 which proved to be bang on , more vfl std than AFL not the last you’d pick up but not the first either

Sometimes I wonder just how many VFL games some of the posters watch when they comment on players like CCJ. Reading the comments that he is not very mobile and a poor kick has me shaking my head in disbelief. If you watched CCJ at VFL level often enough, you'd see that when he is playing in the ruck he gets around the ground quite well and is in fact quite mobile when involved in the play. He is also quite a reliable set shot at goal. It would appear that a lot of the judgements are being made based on his run of games at AFL level this year.

At the moment, due to Lynch being out, he has been asked to play as a stay at home KPF much like we use Lynch. Very rarely has he been moved up the ground to play in the ruck and given our desire to simply just bomb the ball on the heads of our talls he looks very flat footed and slow. If we actually work out the game plan so that we get quicker lower entries into F50, and Lynch returns to play his stay at home role, there will be plenty proof that CCJ is very much a mobile KPF/ruck.

As for trading him, I have to ask why the hell would you do that? We've been waiting 3.5 seasons for CCJ to develop and finally be ready to step into the senior side and now people want to move him on, if we get a good pick and then hit the draft and take another KPP to eventually come in to replace Jack. Hate to break it to people, but any KPF we draft at the end of the year isn't going to be ready to step into the senior side in 2023 once Jack retires, I'd be surprised if Ryan is even ready to step into the side by then given it's took the likes of Chol CCJ & Soldo a good 3-4 years of development before they were finally ready.

As it stands right now our KPF & ruck stocks are pretty much where you'd want them. We've got ready to go options in Jack Tom Toby and Ivan. Then there are the next generation in CCJ & Chol trying to lay claim to a spot as Jack nears the end and then we've got Ryan and Colina in the first years of their development so that by time Jack and Lynch are retired and Nankervis & Soldo are about to hit 30 they should be ready to come in. If we're going to do anything this year, I'd be letting Chol go as he has been here for 6 years and never seems to be able to grasp the opportunity each time he is given a shot. Then you'd look at bringing in another draftee to join Colina and Ryan as developing talls.

So many of our blokes just seem cooked. Cotchin, Houli, Astbury, Prestia, Lynch, Edwards, Riewoldt, etc.

Will Dusty, Rioli and Grimes ever get back to playing career best footy?

It does make you wonder what’s going on at Geelong. They have all these guys well into their 30s at the peak of their powers. Our blokes are late 20s and early 30s and look spent.

I reckon Geelong have been doping for years, especially during their golden era. So bloody suspect.

Of course he would be okay, he’s a good kid from a Richmond supporting family. He only followed Essendon because of his old man (both at odds with the rest of the family)

He has gone to plenty of Richmond games in past years with MRJ, he focussed on jack riewoldt and his running / leading patterns, whilst everyone else watched the game. it’s been his dream to play afl, really focussed and motivated

Just has to piss off his girl and he would be welcome at Richmond & Jack will give him the #8 when he is done

Don’t forget the risk of wasting the pick all together if we do try and draft a key position player
Josh Schache, Paddy McCartin and Tom Boyd are some of the most recent to join a long list of low key position pick failures in the draft

Gold Coast and GWS have been flush with draft picks for years, including this one and they are willing to give up first rounders for CCJ
Surely that tells you something about how rare young key position players who are ready to go are

We really need an overhaul in the midfield
Cotch is cooked
Body has let him down which amazingly Dimma called would happen back in 2014/15 from memory? Said the way he was playing without help was going to cut his career short early and that’s exactly what’s happening now

dion is injury prone, he got away with it last year but with the gaping holes showing this year we have needed him more then ever and he’s body has let everyone including him down.

Edwards has been average this year and I know we won flags with him playing in the guts but don’t see it happening in the future. He should be a creative half back/forward for the next few years before retirement ala what Burgoyne did at hawthorn as the mr fix it.
Bolton we need to re sign ASAP. He and Dusty rotating in the guts and forward is pure footy pr0n. The issue is the other 2 mids we have at the Bounce when they are in there. Not working at the minute especially without nank

dusty been great but can’t rely on him forever

looks like Rcd has talent. Should get first crack this Thursday night with the dion news.
Martyn young but crapped the bed in the port game, thought that and the Sampson Ryan debut were both horribly timed and could hurt their psyche going forward. Dow has a bright future. Should be getting games into him in the back end

Who should we target to help Dusty and Shai next year? Are our kids good enough to replace cotch, to replace dion when injury strikes again and to help titch pro long his career in other areas
