Just did some rough calculations. Pick 38 & 40 are worth 894 points. With next year's 3rd rounder being worth between 420 (finish last) and 170 (win flag) we're giving up between 1064 points minimum to 1323 points maximum for pick 27 which is worth 703!!!!! WTF kind of lousy deal is that with the mortal enemy. Have we learnt nothing from dealing with them from the 80's. The deal was bad enough without losing next year's 3rd as well. Need someone who knows how to negotiate at punt Rd.
The points mean nothing unless you are after securing a father son pick that will be bid on ....we couldn't use 38 and 40 ..pick 40 had to go anyway or we had to delist someone else ....so essentially we traded 38 and a future third round pick for 27

I may have missed some posts but was there surprise that Jay Rantall was cut by the filth ? I seem to recall he trained with us pre season and we liked the look of him and he was an excellent runner but kicking was an issue ?

Surely, surely we have a decent crack at pick 2 or 3 with the picks we have
I am gonna be watching draft night (hopefully at his place) with a good friend who’s a pies fan
I would love nothing more than the look of filth on his face if we bid for Daicos 😂😂😂

He is a bit unlucky. The Pies need the list spots and it would have been hard to develop him due to Covid and not many VFL games. Maybe someone will give him another shot. Probably a top 3 league wide runner.

The 3 picks we've given to the Pies only help them get Daicos this year and a kid outside the top 40 next year, it doesn't get them 2 extra players, but what it does do is allow us to take a 5th top 30 rated kid this year by moving up the order. They don't get to add the points from next years pick to this years haul nor do they get to add this years picks to next years haul.

Secondly we've already got 3 picks inside the first 2 rounds next year, so if we wanted to take just the minimum of 3 picks next year our future 3rd round pick would be not needed so throwing it in to get the deal over the line isn't really going to hurt us that much.

Meh :moustache: Points are irrelevant unless you need to bid for players and if you are trying to move up the draft you have to give up more points than you get - otherwise there is no point in the other team doing the trade. Pick 40 was a pick we probably wouldn't have used, so really we've given up next year's 3rd rounder to move up from 38 to 27. There was some icing for collingwood for us to beat off other clubs who were after 27, but at no big cost to us. In negotiating terms its called a win-win
I like how you made pick 40 disappear into the ether. We had the option of desparate club's like saints Port Carlton Essendon swapping for future picks. Would be nice to stitch up the pies in a trade for once. Guess we're officially their trade bitch????

Sorry but the Wafl standard isn't something too write home about.
Again maybe so, but he has shown he can play the position. Brander hasn't shown shit hence him being delisted.

Point are only used for Father/Sons, Richmond improved their draft position by 11 places (38-11 = 27).

If there is a player Richmond wanted that was rated at 27 and would not be there at 38, it is a shrewd bit of trading.

What happens if one of those picks, is traded to a 1st Round selection in 2022, how do you figure that in your calculations?

Trent Dumont delisted. Don’t give me the standard “hE got cUt by NorF sO he muSt bE hoRRid” rubbish - same was said when Lyons got delisted by GC. If you’ve watched him he can actually play and apparently fell out with the new coach. Averaged 20+ touches, 8 CP and 4+ tackles between 2017-2020 before a downish year this year (18 touches, 4 CP, 2 tackle avg - played far more outside). Only 26, 187cm, 85kg, can play inside mid - could be good insurance.

Because picks you aren't going to use have no value to you.
If we're planning to use 5 picks this year for example, pick 40 is worth 0 points to us. So the total value of the picks TO US is in the range of 685-948 depending on where we finish next year. Much closer to equal value and when you consider points are a guide only and don't take into account players in the draft and where they are likely to be taken, its perfectly reasonable.

This off season couldn’t be going much better imo..

- gained Tarrant & Teague
- re signed Miller & Stack😍
- Cumberland and Biggie get another shot
- delisted exactly who we shouldve (aarts got lucky he was contracted)
- 5 picks inside top 30 + a future 2nd rounder from north

hard to contain my excitement to be honest

I’m at half mast already

Just went through pages of Sydney Stack discussion on the North board. They were convinced he was an option via the PSD. Is there a more delusional supporter base? They probably think strippers fall in love with them.

2 players in the range between 26 and 28 we think may be there when its our turn to pick. One of them we consider to be 1st round value. 28 may go to filling a need. We have traded excellently. Now for a bit of luck on draft night 1 and 2 good selections and a rebuild done on the run as we still contend for a 4th flag in 6 years.

To slow

What’s interesting is that we made the deal with the pies today instead of just waiting to make a deal on draft night
Seems like we are still building towards a bigger move
Especially with that 3 conservative group of picks

If there are only 1-2 players we are really keen at 26/27/28, it’s a near certainty there’ll be plenty of players remaining other teams are keen on - so I can see off-loading 1 or 2 of those picks into a trade for a 2nd rounder next year from a bottom club, or a 1st rounder from a top club. Human nature won’t let any clubs bypass someone they regard as a gun and they’ll come knocking.

I can see us ending up taking 7/15/26/83 and turning 27/28 into around 16 and 22 in 2022.
