Agreed, honestly even if we do make a run this year they're probably looking the better prospect moving forward given age profile which would be more important for a youngish player on the move (not that i think we're heading for a cliff by any stretch). Collingwood looks a really good place to play right now

Not sure … other than Daicos I’m not overly impressed with their youngsters. Might sound silly given their winning streak but just not sure I’d lock them in for an extended streak at the pointy end once their luck runs out.

Reality is, if I was Tim Taranto right now, why wouldn't I pick Collingwood as my destination?

Sucks for us but we'd have to make a decent run into finals to match their appeal right now. They're flying.
I’ll give u a reason why not

Tiger71 said on the live cast tonight that we are 100% getting either Taranto or Hopper

Going hard for Fogarty and thinks we are big chance

Possibility but unlikely Willie Rioli
Due to us not being able to pay him enough

Hopefully Taranto!

Fogarty would be a great get, a good foil for Lunchy. Imagine Jack as the third tall for one year.

Just Toranto will do but wouldnt knock back both Hopper & Toranto

Midfield consisting of
Toranto , Bolton , Prestia , Hopper , Sonsie , Short , Baker , Martin

Thats a bloody good midfield with great foward rotations

Are you retiring cotch?
I’d def keep him for another year and just manage him
Prob play 10-15 games

Money, as good as team success is, setting up a life outside of footy is more important, and we should be able to offer more

Just enjoyed Mabior Chol racking up his regulation 8 touches today…… I dug a little deeper into his influence, as with Chol and Casboult combining for 80 odd goals and Rankine dominating the ground level, why are Gold Coast still so ….

Chol:

Ranked 274th in the AFL for average goal assists. Beyond poor for basically a permanent KPF.

Ranked 144th for avg score involvements. Really really low compared to almost all others to have kicked 30+ goals.

Ranked 356th for marks - no comment really needed, but shows he doesn’t get to many contests.

Ranked 285th for tackles inside 50 - he has laid 6 for the season … Buddy, Jack, Tomahawk, Walker, Naughton all 20+.

He has been a handy goal kicker, but he provides absolutely nothing beyond his occasional mark-goal and ‘Joe the goose’ over the top goals. He provides no forward pressure, he doesn’t bring others into the game, and does not have a physical presence at all.

It reminds me of watching Ben Brown kick 60-goals for the Kangas … and I’d think he was actually still a pretty average footballer as they just give nothing beyond their own contribution.

Big question on Fogarty is what we would have to trade for him given he's still got a year to go on his contract
I'm not against the idea as a long term Jack replacement, seems like he may come good, but Crows may ask for too much
Have to wonder if our recruiters don't rate this years draft at all, seems like we're happy to trade out of it

There's a lot of context missing from that purely statistical analysis.

A big chunk of his attempted goal assists and score involvements have been kicking I50 to Casboult out of sheer necessity...do I need to elaborate further on how that might send a players' raw stats a little pear shaped? ;)

His ranking for marks needs even more context applied. The Suns have played a stack of wet or dewy (no pun intended) games, they sorely lack ball carriers who can hit targets I50 on the driest day and their rolling maul style of play does key forwards absolutely no favours compared to what they get at most other clubs. Mab has been an opportunist at times out of necessity (and FWIW, Dew can't speak highly enough or often enough about his unusually high football intelligence - which surprised me to be honest).

For the best comparison and context, take a look at the bloke whose boots he's partly trying to fill...

In 2021 King was ranked 192nd for GA's, 78th for SI's, 205th for marks and 252nd for tackles I50. Speaks more to the way GC play and the role Dew wants from his key forwards than as decisive indicators of his talent or worth, IMO, they're equally as unflattering.

And FWIW, King seldom has to ruck - Mab is averaging an elite hitout to advantage ratio above 30% this year.

IMO he's had a really good season.

Would assume Graham would be someone of interest to the crows

I'm thinking hopper is a better fit for us. Free agent so we keep our picks. Degoey free agent too. So we could get those 2 and keep our picks which is a pure inside mid and that mid forward. Not sure about cap space though, it would be space made by Edwards, Lambert, caddy, and maybe lower contract to reiwoldt, but some given to baker rioli etc too.

We may need to clear some room too. I reckon soldo could get us a second rounder at someone who is desperate for a ruck. Miller as sexond ruck works better and Samson will have another preseason.

Hopper isn't a free agent

All other teams are getting

There’s no chance at all he leaves to come to Vic imo.
