I never know whether to assume those advocating for De Goey forget we have a strict 'no dickheads' trade policy, or whether they're not quite convinced he's a dickhead yet. ;)
He could benefit from our leadership program and some time at some charities. Seeing how lucky they are should do wonders for footballers. I reckon having the academy at punt rd does wonders for our blokes. Nothing like some you g kids arouns

It’s not like pies lack leadership, they also do a lot of charity work like we do especially with children’s hospitals

He’s just a self indulgent muppett and that won’t change no matter what club he plays for

I hope all talk of us wanting Dow stop now. He isn’t what we need. He looked as lost as RCD does in the middle.
CBA's and clearances.

Fisher 11 for 0 clearances
Crippa 29 for 0 clearances
Cerra 25 for 2 clearances
Walsh 25 for 2 clearances
Dow 9 for 3 clearances (60% game time)

Dimma will do a Grigg mk2.

I assume the reason the rule is in place is because we've learned from long experience that one or two bad apples can cause problems and/or division at the very least, and at the worst, the presence of that element ends up guaranteeing you'll never be genuinely successful until you cut out the rot.

I'm a big supporter of the policy and firmly believe it's the foundation our flags were built upon.

53% DE
13 possessions
3 turnovers
7 uncontested possessions

doesn't fill me with hope.

i love your tenacity - keep the faith!

Even my Blues housemate wants him traded out. I’m not buying.

I've come this far, I may as well see it through until final trade period.

In my defence, I've always said I would only entertain it for a trade of a can of coke.

It comes down to 3 things essentially.

1. No risk given us a token pick
2. Midfield depth instead of Aarts
3. The absolute melts by Blues fans if he becomes somewhat competent.

I still remember how much they laughed when we traded for Grigg and how he was "shit". All we had to do is get the Carlton out of his system.

Traded pick #6

He's in 650k...
I was extremely vocal about not trading for Cerra last year due to giving up our 1st rounder (Gibcus) plus the $650k
Freo supporters kept telling us how good he was but i am yet to see the 'Class'

He is a nice player but not confident he will be more than just a nice player and i think we got a better version with pick #28 Sonsie

Toranto with our 1st this year would be great

I would not trade for P.Dow and he still has 1 more year to run on his contract
If he gets delisted in 14 months time maybe a rookie pick at best

23 year old 5th year on a list and still gets lost at the level with no standout traits apart from running onto a loose ball and turning it over with terrible kicking

100% I’d rather back in our recruiters to find another mid in the draft than trade for dud Dow

There's a lot of context missing from that purely statistical analysis.

A big chunk of his attempted goal assists and score involvements have been kicking I50 to Casboult out of sheer necessity...do I need to elaborate further on how that might send a players' raw stats a little pear shaped? ;)

His ranking for marks needs even more context applied. The Suns have played a stack of wet or dewy (no pun intended) games, they sorely lack ball carriers who can hit targets I50 on the driest day and their rolling maul style of play does key forwards absolutely no favours compared to what they get at most other clubs. Mab has been an opportunist at times out of necessity (and FWIW, Dew can't speak highly enough or often enough about his unusually high football intelligence - which surprised me to be honest).

For the best comparison and context, take a look at the bloke whose boots he's partly trying to fill...

In 2021 King was ranked 192nd for GA's, 78th for SI's, 205th for marks and 252nd for tackles I50. Speaks more to the way GC play and the role Dew wants from his key forwards than as decisive indicators of his talent or worth, IMO, they're equally as unflattering.

And FWIW, King seldom has to ruck - Mab is averaging an elite hitout to advantage ratio above 30% this year.

IMO he's had a really good season.

‘Kicking inside-50m to Casboult’ …. he’s 432nd in the AFL for inside-50’s. He’s had 25 x Inside-50’s for the year. Paddy McCartin averages more inside-50’s than Chol. So Chol doesn’t really leave the F50 other than to run to the huddle.

And it’s interesting you’ve sh*t canned Casboult.

Chol v Casboult:

Goals: 2.2 v 1.8
Inside 50’s: 1.3 v 1.1
GA’s: 0.3 v 0.1
SI’s: 4.8 v 4.2
Disposals: 8.1 v 8.1
Marks: 3.4 v 3.9
Marks I50: 1.8 v 2.4

So overall they’ve had similar output. As a one-two punch kicking 80 goals is something GC would be happy with.

So I think he’s had a solid year (as has Casboult) and GC would be happy with his contribution. But he’ll need to expand his game to retain his place in their starting 22 when Ben King returns next season.

Id rather the can of coke tbh.

Not overly enthused about Paddy Dow, but if the club want to take him - then go for him now & not in 18 months. Giving him another year at Carlton only gives him 1 more year of losing confidence or he improves & he becomes hard to obtain. This year he would be gettable for not alot I would think. He is about where Corey Ellis was which GC gave up a 3rd round pick - i personally thought that was overs for him. To me he seems an odd target, considering his brother is hardly looking a lock himself. You must think that the Bros element must be playing some part, as his actual form has always been pretty ordinary

What is Paddy Dow going to give you that RCD isn’t?

We have a borderline delisting in RCD, why on earth would Richmond want Paddy Dow?

I'd rather Matt Crouch over Dow.
Fun fact: in 2017, when Dustin Martin won nearly every single media award for player of the year, plus the Brownlow and the AFLPA award, there was one he didn't. It was The Age Player of the Year Award, which was won by Matt Crouch. Ipso facto, The Age Player of the Year Award is rubbish.

All that said, I don't want Matt Crouch. He's also, now, rubbish.

Dusty wasn't a poster player yet somehow our playing group and club as a whole turned him into a decent kid. Anyone can change given a second chance in one environment someone may thrive and just might be ours.
