Funny thing is, they haven't said any of those things, it's all made up media scenarios. The only thing GWS have said is that there is no certainty that Soldo will be involved in the Hopper trade and that our initial offer of next year's 1st round and pick 31 has come up a bit short.

GWS have never said they don't want Soldo, Soldo hasn't said he doesn't want to be traded, yet the media are running around running stories of possibly trading Whitfield (which this afternoon GWS said won't happen). I think both clubs are certain they know what it might take to get it done we just have to wait now.

IMO, I reckon its Soldo holding up the trade, I have a feeling he isn't convinced of a move to GWS and is thinking about it. If that falls through, then yes, I say the trade is in danger of not happening.

Yeah… GWS has bluffed the media into running with the line “no probs, we will hold Hopper and move on Whitfield or Haynes to solve our salary cap squeeze” …. how stupid do they think we are, as if ANY club is interested in Whitfield or Haynes and their $1m contracts in 2023

Make of this what you will.
I've only started following this person recently but seems to have a pretty good strike rate apart from mentioning yesterday that Richmond wants Graham's contract gone/off the books.

heck me …. Trade radio does my head in sometimes…. Noble and SOS both saying we need to look for a tall defender…….

Balta : 194cm
Tarrant: 196cm
Gibcus: 196cm
Miller: 198cm
Biggy: 197cm
Grimes: 194cm
Broad: 192cm

4 of them are 23yo or younger.

Then there’s Vlastuin who is 187cm but can play tall.

So maybe in 3-4 years we may need another KPD once Tarrant, Grimes and Broad are all gone, but we are very well off for KPD right now.

North fans really rioting over pick 8 and future 1st offer for the big sook?

Maybe their abortion of a club shouldn’t have blown pick 1 on a guy that wanted to leave before he even got there

They probably should have accepted our offer for pick #1…. draft picks that turned into Gibcus, Brown, Sonsie and Coleman-Jones …. Oops !!

I wouldn’t swap JHF for Gibcus and Sonsie if offered that tomorrow.

I do hope we give Tylar Young a rookie spot though.

If that's the case I hope we can get a project ruckman in either through trade or drafts. With basically Nank and Ryan our only 2 genuine ruck options it leaves us a little light on. Colina seems a long way off yet and I doubt Miller or Biggy could do it full time if s**t really hit the fan

I actually wouldn’t mind getting back Briggs or Flynn in the trade .. (They probably wouldn’t let Flynn go). If Soldo goes then a cheap but capable ruck would be handy in case of emergency. But I hope for his own sake Soldo goes …. unless Nank gets injured he won’t get a game in 2023 as Miller has shown he’s a capable
pinch hit ruck.

Thats my concern with Samson aswell but the club must be bloody confident hes right to go. That or we are looking at bringing in another younger project guy like we sort of did with Nank.
Think we would need to back the young feller Ryan in. No choice but to step up young man, this is your moment. Would just need to provide a contest and then let the mids go to work

I don’t understand why the Giants want Soldo, but good luck to them I guess

If they get Soldo I reckon one of Flynn or Briggs will be packing their bags.

In addition to on-field, Soldo is clearly a great club man and great for culture … Kinglsey would put some big value on that in a club that needs some real leaders on and off the field. If he goes he will be one ex-player I genuinely hope goes well (unlike Higgins and Butler who I like watching spud it up).

Sampson isn’t ready. He will be a player but he’s bambi right now

Miller in the ruck as much as he tries is not his strength. Find it hard to believe you bring in two bulls and you weaken your ruck

Ryan will be a more than capable back-up ruck in 2023. And with TT and Hopper, we could ruck Pickett and win the clearances .

I keep posting this but Balta is 197cm. He told me this himself.

Something else to consider … if we don’t start giving games to Ryan in 2023 then we will end up losing him. He is 22yo start of next season.

A team like Bombers, Saints, Eagles, Pies, Port, Adelaide could do with a very promising 206cm young ruck/fwd and could provide immediate opportunity and a decent payday.

If we have Nank and Soldo, and Lynch/Riewoldt don’t have injuries, when or how does Ryan get a game?

Hopefully we go to 5 on the bench in 2023 and they get rid of the stupid sub-rule … then if Soldo is not there we can give Ryan some opportunities as back-up ruck or ruck/fwd if Jack/Lynch are out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan improves a lot next year. Another big preseason and he'll acquire more strength. The guy is huge! Saw him at the B&F and he literally is the same as Colina in height.

Barrett just said on Trade Radio that's he's hearing the deal will be exactly that.

I wouldn't call him a reliable source though.

At least we will know when the Hopper deal is close to done as GWS are providing a running commentary of the negotiations.
I think the media have a GWS source close to it all as an alarming amount of detail has been leaked to them in relation to the Taranto and Hopper deals.
Someone at gws does work at 3aw

Im not really too concerned about our Ruck stocks , Nank is pretty durable and Ryan will be ready next year and we have support from Miller , Biggy , Noah Balta. We could grab Max Knobel if we have a late pick that has potential (based on a draft watcher on Pre Bullus)

We could also grab as a Rookie

Patrik Balta

15/3/1999, 204cm, 110kg, ruck

Yep this is my concern too. Sampson Ryan has played 1 game. Miller may be able to relieve ruck duties but will need to be taken out of key back duties to do so. Heaven forbid Nank goes down
We will have a spare pick to choose a ruck mid season if necessary or will possibly rookie a journeyman ruck if necessary.
