1 example that works like that in 40 years. Plus when we traded for Prestia we had up to 10 future Tiger Hall of Famers on the list. Club is at a pretty different stage i would have through

Hawthorn only want picks for Kosi.

We only had x amount of picks to offer, so they know what we can only offer x,y,z etc.

If we then trade a player asset into 2 picks, then by default we have more picks the hawks believe they can get us to part with for Kosi.

Therefore, the club should have been hell keen to get this deal done early in the trade period & before making a Soldo deal as it strengthened their dealings with Hawthorn to trade at that time. By doing Soldo first, it has only increased the bounty pool the Hawks will target for Kosi.

To confirm for Soldo we got...

Pick 41, 2023

-Dockers F2 / around 33-35

-a pick upgrade from 49 to 50

- a 4th round pick that is likely a amongst the last few picks in the draft

So basically its pick 35 + 41. The 2nd being the Dockers is definitely a better outcome tho.

I'm disappointed to lose Soldo. When Nank inevitably gets injured or suspended, it leaves us bare in the ruck with only Ryan to come in.

Its not as if we're going to be in the hunt next year.

To all those saying Hooper trade was a disaster…this trade period should be food for thought with who is getting traded:

Dow, Billings, Stephens, Hollands, Coffield … all top-10 picks and getting traded for peanuts.

Nothing is guaranteed at the draft.

The top 8 or so are meant to be great prospects though.

In hindsite we wouldn't have done the deal. Bit we've got a good player and hopefully now we have a good midfield system. It's far from a disaster.

It's an average return of a starting quality Ruck aged 27. Short term it hurts. If Nank goes down we will get slaughtered, and i mean slaughtered out of the middle. Teams like the Dogs, Lions, Demons will absolutely hold our hair and ask us to count to 10

Those 3 teams will go balls deep on us regardless, soldo is not the second coming of Jesus, he’s a good tap ruck and that’s about it, very slow and average around the ground, we’ve made a very good deal imo

Its its freos second round pick weve made out like absolute bandits.

Freo finished 14th this year, and lost their leading goal kicker over the last 2 years to collingwood and liam henry to st kilda.

they could easily finish 14th again, or even drop down to 15th to 16th given gold coast and hawthorn are expected to improve

thats a pick in the early 20s, mid 20s with compo picks

Would've traded Nank over Soldo. He's older and almost broken down. Almost a guarantee we lose in the middle and the opposition ruck is BOG when matched up with Nank.

This list is a mile off another premiership so I guess it doesn't matter

Both Brisbane and Carlton have father son prospects next year, aswell as the northern academies. Important to keep all our future picks, inluding the future 3rd to give us the best chance of snagging a first round pick.

4th rounders are no longer worth what they were used to, they are basically the final 6 picks in the draft now. The draft used to go 80+ back in the day but has not completed a full 4th round for a long time. The compromised draft situation is a lot worse than i originally thought it was. Didnt expect Nth to ne gifted so much, Gresham to be getting 1st round compo's etc.

It came obvious to me that Port REALLY needed Soldo. A Lot. I would say a lot more than we likely need Kosi, which is still quite a bit. With the Kosi deal we are seeing Hawthorn play their best hand to get the best deal. I just would like to see us do that, instead we said they dont have the assets, then within 24 hours of Soldo asking for a trade we accepted a deal.

We got pick 41 & Freo's future 2nd. Its a reasonable result, but not a home run by any means. Would have been interesting to see what other deals were out there & also what Port would have done if we actually stood firm on our OG "assets" claim. And for the record i would likely still take Duursma in a straightswap for Soldo over the package we got. I think he can play and would be a walk-in starter on our Wing. He is also the age we are missing the most on our list.
