How many drafts have multiple generational talent players in them? Let alone the chance of one team picking them all up?

If it was that easy Carlton would of been in the position they are in now 7 years ago and Gold Coast/GWS would of won multiple flags each

We already have an excellent draft hand and probably going to enhance that with the loss of one of the 3 mentioned no point trying to over capitalise if it just moves the key players that will ensure we have a competitive base for the next 5 years
The issue with your argument is Carlton, GC, and GWS had terrible development and no culture. Carlton actually had a big 2015 draft hand and have nailed those picks. They have had not too much other picks to be honest in a condensed period and have missed with absolute howlers and the club has incompetent management.

In two draft years with the currency we have, we could essentially more than duplicate Carlton's 2015 draft hand and yes, build the next core. Supplemented by top 3-5 picks in the next 2-3 years incubated with some pre-seasons with the existing 2021 draft crop and Hopper/Taranto. That gets us a good core before Tassie compromise from 2027. We would essentially have 11 first round picks/early second round picks in that period if we lost Baker, Rioli, Bolton (who are not prime when we contend anyway). From 2027 onwards we would have current young group, plus this, plus cap room to buy som big FA's to complement this core and start contending again. Look through all the last 10 years drafts, the strike rate is quite good in my mind to land a players better than the guys we trade out.

The alternative to that is to stay middle of the road, lose the currency Bolton, Baker, Rioli have, lose the older A graders (Martin, Lynch) and then realise we can't contend and rebuild like a North, and sit there for 7 years farming 1-2 good picks a year because you have SFA to trade out.

We need to bite the bullet now and try to get 1-2 years out of Martin, Prestia, Lynch, Grimes, Broad (maybe), Graham (maybe) Short, etc to insulate that young core I mention.

lol shai is on 1mn plus a year , u think he’s on the bones of his ass playing for us , jam your charity
And get slightly more in Bolton's case living back in your home state.
Or
Stay here and get your ass taxed too the tilt from a clueless govt.

Has been linked. Fills a need for us and should come cheap.
Does he though.
We have Mrj whom had come on prior too inj.
If anything if we need another I'd get young Yassian onto our list.

Wouldn’t really worry about recruiting small forwards for the moment

If we are hitting the draft hard for mids chances are at least will be a mid/fwd anyway

I think so. Campbell may develop into something more than a small forward, MRJ could be gone, Mansell could be upgraded upon and Green and Coulthard aren't looking like earning another contract.

I’m keeping Bolton.
Bake’s it’s his call, this could become one of those win/win situations.
What I’ve read and heard upto this point is that this year’s draft is deep (into the early 30s) but doesn’t contain the generational player/s such as Reid.
We are going to get a good draft hand , without trading away a match winner like Bolton.
As we’ve seen a decent run with injury and an injection of young talent, you can turn things around quickly.
Who’s to say Bolton won’t be a key player in our next premiership tilt. He’s still in his mid 20s with plenty of football infront of him

GWS had culture and leadership and development. Their first ever season was 2012 and it was in their 5th season they were some dodgy free kicks away from a grand final berth. They were then a good team for the next few years then needed a refresh in the voice.

If you look at the history of the Giants and their results since joining the comp and say they can't develop players, you are just clinically nuts.

You’re being technical and there’s a pretty good reason he’s decided to build his life in melb away from the fam ,

You are actually supporting my argument that draft picks are needed. GWS were not able to retain picks and if the original core did keep f****g off to victoria they probably would have won one. 2016/17 they were very good.

Unpopular opinion, losing Bolton for a mega trade deal in our favour (we have a lot of leverage here) is a trade I would make, as I think when push comes to shove Bolton is not reliable and can be lazy and ill disciplined and inconsistent in games. He is an elite cream on top player but he is not the Dusty Martin carry your team player.

Pick 12-15 for Baker is his value

Dan Rioli is another story altogether and this is where the hardball mentality should kick in
They have 2 good picks and are like millionaires at the trade table and over pay all the time so we demand both picks

If they want maurice as well then easy 9,11,20 for both and be done with it, Save cap space and go hard at a player like JUH in 2 years time when the midfield is set

Its a new era at the RFC and bring in the new breed

I feel like im playing supercoach now :p

Trade Lynch to Melbourne whilst we are at it
Surely the 2 Rioli's equal the Taranto Hopper trades! I don't begrudge players like Graham broad and Baker going home, it's either picks on return or a victorian coming the other way. Either way it's a rebuild as younger players come in. I don't mind it at all. We are accomplishing a rebuild in 3 or 4 years

Something Yze needs to do this off-season is get some players trained up in other positions, as we have too many pure mids who struggle elsewhere : Prestia, TT, Hopper and Dow for starters. Then the first part of this year showed Ross’s best position is mid. And we need to find room for McAulife and Sonsie in the mids. And Bolton needs to spend time there.

And then there’s a top-3 draft picks who is likely to be a midfielder.

We want depth in there, but we also don’t want some of our best-18 players in the VFL because there’s no spot for them, meanwhile playing week in and week out other average players in specialist roles the ‘mids’ can’t play.

IMO moving forward it’ll be TT and McAuliffe full time mids. Then others need to add strings to their bow and rotate around mid, wings, half forward, half back and bench.

Disagree. North didn’t start their rebuild with the kind of currency to trade out and neither did west coast or hawthorn yet the two latter clubs are already showing signs of a big bounce next year. We will eat shit for two years if we do this and be much better off in 3-5.
I think of we get picks for graham and broad we take them. Don't think there is much good footy left in them.

I really like our younger players, next year is the 4th year for the 2021 crop and I reckon they can step up, so if the riolis, bolton, baker want to go then those guys can step up and some more young players come in. It will be like when taranto and hopper left GWS and Green stepped up. Unleash the youth!
