Fair point but I still believe he's shown more than Karl in his first 4 seasons at the club.

Question really is do we think Duursma can evaluate his game in the next three seasons as Amon did in the last three seasons.
So Duurs needs to explore a trade for more game opportunity and find that there are absolutely no suitors for him?

Can't wait for this thread to start complaining about us trading Duursma for magic beans, all because 7AFL made up a crap fake trade for Pickett that involved Duursma.

Even despite playing a lot of SANFL this year, Duursma was obviously still happy enough at Port that his sister wanted to move to SA for a AFLW contract. He doesn't want to go anywhere, and the club clearly doesn't want to trade him either.

Getting Pickett and Rioli would release SPP back into the midfield where he belongs
While I'd love to see SPP back in the midfield, he has played that high HF role as well as anyone in recent memory. Given how hard a position it is to play, I can understand why he is being kept there. 18-20 high intensity disposals in that position are worth gold.

Unlike Amon, I reckon there would be a few clubs happy to snap up Duursma, but that wasnt my point.

I was trying to point out that I'm still hopeful with a bit of time he'll be a better winger than Amon over the last three seasons.

Would love Duursma to be no 1 pick for a wing, on his first two seasons form alone, I would have expected he would be that comfortably by 2023, especially with Amon leaving.

On the past two seasons form though, others atm look like a better option, my personal opinion on why the form drop is most likely lack of confidence due to not getting his body right, but I'm guessing from a far.

I'm not suggesting we should trade him though, as like Amon and others on our list it's not unusual for a 20-23 year old to struggle with consistency.

Really need Burgoyne to develop into a defender who can beat opposition small forwards. With Burgoyne and Burton that feels like a flexible mix.
Just need someone tall down back as well.
Agree. I think Jones needs to go back too.

In an ideal world, our backline includes Burton, Burgoyne, Jones and Farrell in those peripheral (non-key) roles.
This allows Bergman, Houston, Bonner to join Duursma and possibly Sinn in playing across the wings, and in Houston and Bergman's case in the inside midfield roles too.

Assuming we don't get Pickett or Dunkley:

FB: Jones...Big Key Defender (need to recruit!)....Jonas/Clurey/Pasini

HB: Burton....Aliir.....Burgoyne

C: Duursma.....Wines.....Houston

HF: SPP.....Dixon.....Rioli

FF: Georgiades.....Marshall.....Fantasia (if fit)

R: Ruckman (who knows which one)....Rozee....Butters

Int: Boak.....Farrell.....Finlayson.....Bergman

Other: DBJ.....Mead.....Teakle.....Sinn.....Bonner.....Drew

I like him but let’s remember he played most of the year in the twos and we were bog ordinary this year.
Us being bog ordinary had nothing to do with our depth of midfield and running players. It was coaching / holes like defenders and dumb selection issues.

He really hasnt. Hes a clear couple of rungs below Rozee and Butters talent wise.

Who isn’t?
Hell, a decent sized bunch of the all-Australians of the past decade are arguably a couple of rungs below rozee and butters talent wise.

Ports has had a few just to pick some out.

Langdon has endurance and actual pace and he's a decent kick, two things that Duursma doesn't possess.
Jesus. Are we talking about the same Langdon that was freo fans perennial whipping boy for being one of the worst kicks they had on their list and mocked league wide for his disposal?

Langdon was pretty widely mocked and really just started to blossom before going to melb where he went up a gear.

The handling of Xavier was nothing short of an abomination this season.

If he wasn't picking up injuries in the SANFL while guys like Motlop and Mead got games ahead of him, he was a travelling emergency while attempting to come back from injury, unable to get any type of continuity in his football at all.

The suggestions in this thread of guys to play wing ahead of him range from unlikely to laughable. Farrell was playing off half back late in the season, Bonner is frankly terrible, and I won't even comment on names like Rioli and Finlayson that have been mentioned.

Every one of those players played significantly better football in 2022 than Duursma.

They must have found an assistant coach who was good at coaching kicking!

Getting Pickett and Rioli would release SPP back into the midfield where he belongs

Not at all.
Port have usually run a 3 tall 4 small forward set up across their 22. In finals last year the 4 smalls were Robbie, Rozee, Butters and Fantasia. Given Rozee and Butters are now midfielders, if they had all of Rioli, Fantasia and Pickett in the same side there is still room for SPP. Fantasia and Pickett play deeper to goal anyway so it is not as if either one of those in particular would be taking SPP's high half forward role.

It has taken a little while but SPP finally found his niche in the side this year. Would be counter-productive to be changing his role next season.

Tbf he plays the HF role well. Would be in the AA squad if he wasn't the worst shot at goal in the AFL

Myth? Not sure. I know where that truth comes from though and you just have to watch him defending 1v1 or making a blunder with his kicking when there are too many options in front of him. He's not in my top 25 at the club
He doesn’t make any more ridiculous blunders by foot then anyone us. Probably the worst at the club for inexplicable errors by foot is Burton but no one ever seems to mention it
