It's absolutely outrageous that last year's premier is going to be able to bring in pick 7 and a good player for the cost of a bit of salary cap. Gold Coast should be ashamed of themselves.
You know any club can take advantage of this, essentially trading in a high draft pick by replacing retiring players salaries with an incoming fringe 22 players salary.

We retired Gray and Motlop, but we choose to use that space for resigning younger players on the rise. Geelong have taken the model and flipped it, an older list that they’ve already paid their dues to and now retain on a percentage of what they could be worth on the open market. Retiring players who don’t free up much cap space, but they don’t need to pay a lot to keep the ones they’ve got, happy.
Embedded their advantages into a model that probably only they could get away refreshing each year without exorbitant dollars required.

GWS are losing Taranto, Hopper, Bruhn and Hill in one offseason, surely they're the last club that needs to salary dump?
GWS and GCS working as designed.

The crazy thing is, with salary dumps in other leagues, the incentive of the pick is to reflect the pain inflicted by taking on the traded contract.

Instead, Geelong get a nice player they can pay over 4 years instead of 2, and cop pick 7 for their ‘trouble’.

Just another competitive imbalance the AFL will ‘fix’ after a heartland club has benefited.

Yes, the fact they can renegotiate the length of the contract is BS. Good luck to Geelong, they are the rules. The rules suck

Ben Long for a second rounder is way overs. He is worth a 3rd rounder at best.

If one of your players nominated the suns you are laughing because they will pay overs out of desperation.

He’s basically Tom Logan, with dirty acts substituting for kamikaze acts.

Yes, but giving up our points for 15 made sense, giving up our points for 21 makes far less sense.

Personally I suspect we would've put ourselves in the running for 15, but our picks were only about a 400 point gain for Brissy, GWS at approx 600 points have likely just outbid us.
Brisbane didn't gain points for their father-son matching in the trade with GWS. They lost points. They traded a 2022 first round pick for a 2022 second round pick. They gain more points next year to be stripped for their deficit.

If Ratugolea is gettable I would be prioritising this over Rioli. If a deal can’t be done take the risk and get Rioli to nominate for preseason draft. He would then nominate the contract port has offered- doubtful any club before ports pick would take a player that doesn’t want to play for them.

Brisbane have now got sufficient points to cover bids on their F/S picks, but the Dunkley trade looks further away than it did before today - the Dogs might have to settle for next year's first unless Brisbane do some other trades. Wouldn't it be a shame if Dunkley was left at the altar again.

So why couldn't Gold Cost renegotiate the length? Seems to be all in favour of Geelong with no cost to them.

We’d have to assume he or GC didn’t want to?
