Vale Gentleman Jim - Pay your respects in this thread

Sad day for football, don't think there would be a single afl fan not hit by this news, nor one that will forget about his achievements on and off the field. The AFL and indeed Australia have both lost a legend today, condolences for his family and it's only fitting that he should be given a state funeral. Truly an inspiring figure, never gave up and achieved more than most of us could ever dream of... Honestly hearing this when i got home from work hit me harder than the death of my own grandfather... R.I.P Jimmy.

I never met him, saw him speak on the tv and from what i saw and the way he connected with his simple humility he has me choking up now that he's gone. Wherever you are Jimmy, may God rest your sweet soul.

I knew Jimma personally, and believe me, there isn't enough accolades to describe the man, the person, the hero.

In my time at Reach Youth I saw him turn around the lives of some really troubled and damaged teens/young people, some of whom have been through so much unimaginable crap and trauma.

He has saved and touched hundreds/if not thousands of young lives through his amazing foundation. He always had time for everyone.
He was loved and admired by everyone who knew him.

I know Jimmy wouldn't want us to be sad/down with his passing, but when someone who has been as selfless and giving and compassionate as Jim was, its impossible not to feel like you've been struck down like a truck.

Hadn't seen Jim for a while, but he did so much for me when I was a teenager on the verge of being homeless, I will never forget how he went out of his way to find me some youth accomodation.

I take comfort that Jimmy Stynes will live forever though because he is a legend, and legends never die ...

RIP Jimma, you'll always be remembered as one of Ireland and Australia's favorite sons and heroes ... :(

prayers out to the Stynes family and all who were involved in his brave fight. Very loyal and courageous guy, hoping you are in heaven now.....presumably sitting next to Austin's dad watching Melbourne win a flag hahaha

Perhaps members could pay tribute via their bumper stickers?

I don't know Jim Stynes.
I have never met Jim Stynes.
I am sincerely sad at his passing.
My best wishes to his wife and particularly his children who obviously kow better than any of us the importance of his place in our world.

RIP in peace Jimmy.

If there was anything anyone could do to bring you back they do it in a heartbeat. Condolences to his family, you can never underestimate the fact of not having a wonderful father.

Was probably the most liked bloke in football and one of the most respected. A great club man, both as player and administrator. He was Melbourne Demons through and through. I loved his passion for the game, for his club and even for the international series. A big loss not just for his family and his friends, who my thoughts go out to, but for the AFL as well. R.I.P. Jim Stynes, we are worse off without you, you will be sorely missed.

The words 'inspirational' and 'legend' get bandied about too often these days, but in Jimmy Stynes case they are all too appropriate.

Australia, Ireland and the AFL have lost one of their finest today. Seems to be too true that only the good die young.

Condolences to Jims family, friends and the Melbourne Football Club

Heres hoping the dees can put in a ripper of a season for Jim. No doubt he'll be up there looking down on em and cheering them on

RIP

RIP Jim
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family tonight. Truely one of the all time greats on & off the field.

Never been moved by the loss of someone I never knew or met. But if many of us were half the man he was, the world would be a better place. He went through far more than any man should, endured more pain than any man should, just an absolute inspiration.

RIP Jimmy

What a great man, to come to Australia with nothing but a never say die attitude and play a foreign game, win all our hearts and carry himself with such dignity. I want to celebrate what a great man he was, but it's just so damn sad to wake tomorrow and he ain't there. I heard today that he'd already packed his clothes away as he didn't want the family to go through that, that just wrecked me. Thinking of his family.

A truly wonderful example of a human being.

R.I.P big man. You'll not be forgotten.
