We are hanging in there as best as we can.

Happy with menegola and some of the vfl guys.

I stayed for the first half before leaving - was just getting too cold, the coffee wasn't hot & service slow etc. And I wanted something to eat, but there was only minimal options - not sure if the pies ever heated up though as they left the door open for like 5 minutes at one stage

I tried to focus on a few of our senior players like Parfitt & Menegola, and not sure either showed enough to suggest they should be pushing for senior selection next week. The effort was there from Parfitt, could see he was trying to get involved but it wasn't always coming off

With Menegola I was left wanting to see more, especially more urgency & leadership from a player of his experience. Watching him he looked like the Menegola we all know & who has played such an important role in our team since he was drafted, but as an older & slower version. At times in the first quarter he struggled with the pace that North was bringing, where he'd look to take that extra step or hold the ball for an extra second to find the perfect option but North didn't give him that time

My concern with Sam is that if he looks off the pace at VFL level, how is he going to look at senior level, especially against some of our upcoming opponents in Essendon & Brisbane

Knevitt to me was the only player who looked like he was up for playing AFL in the coming weeks, IMO.

Good summary…As I have said I am prepared to wait to see if the speed comes back (I know he was never fast but…). However I am concerned that it isn’t just match fitness but is more about his age.

Right now he is behind Knevitt and Dempsey despite the fact that those guys can’t offer in AFL what Menagola could if he gets back to near his best. But those boys are much quicker - and you notice that it takes them time to get used to the step up in pace from VFL.

Having said that I think menegola could be a better sub than the young boys? But reckon he won’t be in best 23 by end of the year (nor will Knevitt and Dempsey if we are serious contenders). I do think CS will give menegola a chance over next 7 weeks - just in case

unlucky to be out…but have loved his (and Dempsey) attitude when they go back to VFL. They seem to accept that the afl games are bonus and they need to keep performing at VFL level.

With Jezza, Kolo and Smith all available next week (and bews a few weeks later) it might be that they can manage players without needing to dip into the pool of those playing VFL

After watching the replay i am even more certain that Gola and Parfitt don't deserve to be called up to the AFL in front of Knevitt and Dempsey.

Parfitt has gone from solid best 22 B grader to a C grade struggler this year and will most likely be gone at years end.

Gola just isn't up to it yet and needs more VFL time to get back to his best if he even can and will most likely be gone at years end as well.

Neale still doesn't look right since coming back from injury which means he probably wont get anymore games this year so hopefully he has an injury free preseason and hits the ground running next year.

Funny how things change .

Would of got an top 15 p for him 4 years ago ..

Now live pic.

Not sure anyone would ever have given us that for him.

Mitch knevitt is our most ready AFL player in the twos .

Ollie Dempsey best VFL ...not quiet ready for AFL.just yet.

Parfittt fallen well back .

Who knows he was pretty good 4-5 years ago .
His best season by far was 2020 where he should have gone AA. He was a free agent of account of being delisted previously, so free hit no pick required for any club that wanted him. He signed for us post-season. Fair to say we would struggle to net a decent pick for him at any stage of his career

I can't believe they didn't play Dempsey in the 2s for a half after the game.

Was talk about that on K rock on the way home .

Ollie been our best in the twos all year .

...

North VFL had heaps more experience.
Even a few of their younger ones seen AFL time this year

Probably a load management thing

Also likely that having played the last 1.5 quarters in the AFL, and then a break between games lasting approx 90 minutes games that it was going to be a hard task to keep Ollie warmed up & ready for a second hit out

I heard that he wanted to play…(spoke to someone after the game). but club decision - something about they would have to leave a player out of game who could play 4 quarters and therefore team would be left short if went with Dempsey. I reckon if the game was a day apart he might have played a full game?

Shame as was important game for VFL

What I did like though was that from what I saw he played midfield in the seniors. Lined up at stoppage, attended at least one centre bounce. I'm yet to watch the final quarter (I was too busy being tortured this afternoon to see the last half) but he looked lively

He didn't play much seniors
Yes but he is young and maybe the coaches want to let him have a week in which he doesn't play a fully game.

Dempsey doesn't have a AFL ready body yet and giving him a break every now and again isn't a bad idea as no need to push a youngster hard and have him break down.

Like someone said is the game was a day apart they may have played him in the VFL.

I watched closely in last Qtr at the game (frankly the game was boring so thought I would watch him).

I think coaches will be happy with him although he only got 1 touch (and should have had a Ping for goal instead of try to pass off). But suspect he will be frustrated.

He played forward in last (would have liked to see him more in the middle) and worked hard. But cats lost clearances in last and also were sloppy going forward so Ollie didn’t get near it really.

Chalk it all down to experience. As you say he is lively and I expect will have a break out next year.

He will be back in vfl for rest of this year unless injury to specific player. Or unless cats fall off

His 1 wood is to get the ball speared onto his chest on the lead from the goal square. Doesn't have enough tools to his game outside of that
I can see why you say that. I am hoping he does have other tools but just needs more time to show them.

He is excellent in that lead. Commits to it. And is a very good kick.

To me that is a good start. Given his size and speed it is something to work with.

With hawk going one more Year we have time to see how he develops
