The Hall of Fame game and tonight have shown Waite is not a Key posn backman - Walls has gone from being his publicist to saying he is not good enough in one on one contests and we know his turnovers can hurt. It has to be CHF where he can run free

Nah, I prefer him in the backline. Tonight he was certainly given instructions to play a Thornton-type role, sweeping, being the third man up, and trying to block off the leads. Thought he was pretty good in that role, and if he eliminates the brain-fades will be very handy.

Disagree about him not being good enough in 1 on 1s, he is a very good spoiler IMO.

As a CHF he was far too inconsistent and faded out of games too easily. Not the answer for CHF. At the moment though we have no answer for CHF and it showed tonight.

I think, after tonights game, Waite should play CHF. Brown absolutly carved him up, he was slipping all over the place, Brown ran rings around him. His role at CHB is too important, and he tends to give away costly goals.

Waite is clearly overrated - and no I am not bagging after just tonights game.

Problem is, he reads the media crap and thinks he is a better footballer than what he is.

To his credit, he is being asked to play a position that he is not up to playing.

I will agree with his former publicist who happens to be a Hall of Famer and Premiership coach - he is not up to it on big bodies so that rules out key defensive role. Yeah he was good when he didn't have an opponent but if he we set up with an extra man in defense that hurts us more as that will mean opposition have an extra defender too and remember we are the team with the one man forward line who need it open

Waite was given the loose man role after Brown had toweled him up then Waite was given Bradshaw after Jamison got injured and proceeded to play him back into form after not getting a kick until then. Waite is great trade value.

As big a issue Waite is what about Fisher who continually underachieves and has no impact.

Fair enough if you agree with him, but I couldn't care less if he is a Hall of Famer, Premiership Coach, or God. You have your opinion, he has his, and I have mine.

Just because Walls says something doesn't mean its true, in fact most cases its just useless dribble coming out his mouth. One minute he's advocating Waite for the Vic team next he's saying he can't play 1 on 1. He changes his opinions more than jocks.

And I stand by my comment of preferring Waite in the backline. I don't think Browny towelled him early, he got a few lucky bounces/frees. Waite was beaten though, not towelled.

As a forward he doesn't have enough impact drifting in and out of games.

Has been pretty good this year in the backline, see Rocca, Riewoldt, Lynch.

My 2c.

Fisher underachieves, you're kidding. Anyone who thinks he does struggles with the game. Been a great pick up for a "pick 72". Maybe if we played a CHF, we'd have (1) and extra target that takes an extra man, (2) then takes the pressure of Fev, and (3) allows Fisher to resume his role as the 3rd tall. We'll kill Fisher if we keep him as our 2nd tall up forward we'll kill him. Waite needs to go back to CHF. Setanta, Jamo, bower, Thornton etc...can do well enough now in defence. I think Setanta's well suited, I believe to CHF.

I will watch it again but I am pretty sure he was towelled (could be wrong) - one thing for sure is that neither he, Thort or Jammo (what a great game before inj) are built for the big body forwards. Probably a week to week selection I am afraid but we probably have to persist with Setanta for the gorillas.

ps Walls will make some idiot statements but don't ever think you know more about football than him

Firstly, don't put words in my mouth. Where did I say I know more about football than him? I said: don't treat his OPINION as fact, and that it was fine that you shared his OPINION, but that doesn't make it correct.

Secondly, you're correct. Those three boys mentioned can't play a Gehrig, a Richo, or I guess even Brown. But Waitey did beat Rocca earlier this season, so maybe they think he is the answer? Maybe we need persistance... The smart forwards will always beat Carlos, he is caught ball-watching and is worked under the ball far too much. Jammo is more suited to leading forwards, and Thornton probably to third forwards.

Just a no brainer i would of thought to move him forward and Setanta back, at least big carlos shows some fight and grit and he was on a hiding to nothing when the lack of midfield pressure got worse and Brown was given great supply. Carlos has always shown a little promise as a defender and its the only position he will ever be effective at.

Your kidding aren't you? Fisher adds pressure to Fev!! He leads into his space and then when he gets 3 great opportunities to kick regulation goals he not only misses but misses badly and can hardly kick it past 40 metres and has been doing so for the past few seasons or at least when he is not injured... get something for him as he wont make it!!!

Unless everything that comes out of your mouth is dribble (drivel even) then it would follow that you must think you know more about football than him

I am being mean but you inferred it mate - hey, I had a go at him too when I said he has gone from being Waite's publiciist to ...

Okay, how's this:

I don't know more about football than Robert Walls and don't pretend to. But he has opinions, which change on a daily basis regardless of whether or not he is contradicting something he said earlier, to suit the situation at hand. In my opinion, therefore, alot of what comes out his mouth has no credibility, because he is so often changing his mind. Yes, drivel along with dribble (he's getting old).

:thumbsu: or  ?

I said it in the game day thread... put him forward!
His disposal is NOT GOOD ENOUGH and costs us more goals than he saves.

Up forward he is a target and will straighten us up coming out of defence. Give us a target, structure and support to the Fev.

Give him a Buddy type role and if he is half as good we come out ahead :thumbsu:

It's certainly true we need to straighten up and play more attacking football through the corridor. A target at CHF encourages this. If Hartlett stops having hamstring problems, then can't he make a good CHF? Otherwise we may have no other choice than Waite.

he was torrendous last night... everything to touch turned to shit... a very weak effort... he actually gave up at the end when bradshaw pushed him around like a girl...

i can't waite till they realise this experiment of him at CHB went wrong... i cringe everytime he is near the ball and is running out backline to kick it... and he is suppose to be in our top 5 players....

after watching waite go fwd in the 2nd half tonight, he isnt going to make it as a forward.
i think he is best as a running defender that sometimes play up the ground- say like on a wing.

Waite IMHO is totally overrated reminds me of Jason Cloke in the backline, looks ok when he dosen't have anyone on him but is totally unaccountable. Chuck Waite to CHF for the rest of the year and if he dosen't preform there look to trade him. He really dosen't have the size of a CHF either maybe stick him at HFF or on the wing I want Hartlett at CHF atleast he has the size.

Waite's been our best defender this year. He stitched up Richo a couple of weeks ago but he's come up against Riewoldt in good form and got beaten- that's no disgrace. Maybe if we had a Bock or Scarlett we could release Waite to the forward line but at the moment he's better off in the backline.
