Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

Remove this Banner Ad

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

F16s are obsolete equipment, who cares if they lose some.
Competing rumours that it was pilot error/shot down by Ukrainian patriots. Seemingly nothing from Russia claiming a shootdown.

The pilot loss is the major thing, not that you've ever claimed to be a humanitarian

What do you think Putin’s victory plan is?
Think he's pretty much got it.

Crimea and large parts of south and eastern Ukraine, dismantle the Ukrainian army. Maybe the kursk invasion spurs him on to take more, idk

Generally I don't do the great man version of history and try to look at the material conditions that influence things. I don't think this is a result of Putin leadership and rather a result of various geopolitical factors that have come to this, also don't think Zelensky is to blame for no peace deal and him fighting on was a result of factors bigger than him

Russian economy in tatters

First time invaded since WW2

Black Sea fleet decimated - Sevastopol rendered useless

Having to make an alliance with Kim Jong

Begging Iran, Nth Korea, Belarus for weapons

Oil refining capacity in tatters

620,000 losses and climbing

Suspended by most major international associations

Ukraine stronger than ever, pretty much Europe & the entire western world backing it. Smart thing to do, stop Putin now before we have another Hitler like scenario in Europe.

Ukraine is lost to Russia forever.

Putin's lost, it's a matter of how much of Russia he wants to destroy before giving up.

Face it comrade. Even if you aren't allowed to say such things in your workplace.

Quite telling how little the US has actually given to Ukraine. Much of the equipment / ammunition supplied to Ukraine has been obsolete that was either out of service or due for decommissioning.

Fact is Jake Sullivan and Blinken (and consequently Biden) dont want Ukraine to have a chance of winning. All their red line escalation bullshit which the world knows isn’t a factor.

The big loss is the trained pilot.
A U.S. defence official told Reuters that Monday's crash did not appear to be the result of Russian fire, and possible causes from pilot error to mechanical failure were still being investigated.
Some rumours suggest it was even Ukrainian friendly fire.

Whatever happened, the head of the air force has been fired as a result.

Kursk region. As Russian propaganda trolls aren’t flooding social media with the exploits of the Russian army taking back town after town, the UAF is still on the offensive.

Some talk Lavrov has carked it.
I have a feeling that will be a reference to a plane which crashed in Kamchatka. A lot of claims came out of it, even that Putin was on it :drunk:

In reality there's some official and his wife (and potentially around 20 other passengers) all killed, but the big names are almost certainly untrue.

Konakovskaya Power Plant in Tver region (adjacent to Moscow) was struck today. It's a massive plant and a massiver target.

The Konakovskaya State District Power Plant in the Tver region, which is one of the largest power plants in the central part of Russia, is on fire! It is the 8th most powerful thermal power plant in the country.

And the Moscow Oil Refinery (in Moscow itself, south-east suburbs):

After the arrival of attack UAVs, the Moscow Oil Refinery is on fire - one of the largest Russian refineries, and also the most protected, considering the kind of anti-aircraft missile defense organized for the Russian capital. [TG post link]

March 2023: Russian security forces conduct searches in my apartment and dacha in the Lugansk region.
August 2024: I conduct searches in the house of Russian security forces in the Kursk region.
This is how karma works.

A report quoting Russian state sources of 160 Ukrainian drone attacks on multiple targets overnight. [TG post link]

Over 160 drones attacked Russian territory overnight. Key points about the large-scale attack on the Russian Federation:
— According to the Ministry of Defense, most drones were intercepted over the territory of the Kursk (46), Bryansk (34) and Voronezh (28) regions.
— 14 UAVs were intercepted over the territory of the Belgorod region, 8 over the territory of the Ryazan region, 5 over the territory of the Kaluga region, 4 over the territory of the Lipetsk region, 3 over the territory of the Tula region, 2 drones over the territories of the Tambov and Smolensk regions, one over the territories of the Oryol, Tver and Ivanovo regions.
— In the Tver region, a fire broke out at the Konakovskaya State District Power Plant after a UAV attack. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties.
— Seven unmanned aerial vehicles have arrived in the Moscow region. According to the Defense Ministry, two were intercepted over Moscow, and five were intercepted over the Moscow region. One of the drones fell on a barn next to a private home in the village of Durnikha.
— One of the downed drones damaged a separate technical room of the Moscow Oil Refinery as a result of the fall, and a fire started there. This was reported by Sergei Sobyanin. They wanted to involve aviation in the fire, but, according to Baza, it was not needed and was recalled due to the lowering of the fire's complexity level.
— The Kashira State District Power Plant was also under threat. Three UAVs attacked the station's territory. "There were no casualties or damage, and no fire followed," said the head of Kashira, Mikhail Shuvalov.

Uncertain if any drone actually did reach the Moscow Oil Refinery. There was another fake video circulated at the same time, so some of the details are up in the air.

Putin gives a representation of biblical mass infanticide ... to a Beslan church.
Vladimir Putin presented the Orthodox Church in Beslan with the icon "Bethlehem Babies" [TG post link]

The icon depicts the infants killed by order of King Herod after the birth of Jesus Christ, symbolizing the innocent victims who died at the hands of evil. According to Christian mythology, Herod killed 14,000 children in the hope that one of them would be Jesus, whom the Magi called "the king of the Jews." This icon is sold online for almost 15 thousand rubles.

Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attack in Beslan, which killed 333 people, 186 of whom were children.

The icon is carried by the Minister of Culture of North Ossetia, Soslan Fidarov, and next to him is the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, Albina Plaeva.

If you ever wondered what the expression "are you ****ing kidding me" looked like, well wonder no more.

Almost as if they suspect Putins mate and banker supported Putin in order to weaken the West so he can launch his own invasion of a smaller peaceful neighbouring democracy
