Really like this move, fits the hole brilliantly. I remember watching a couple of his games in 2013 and was really impressed and thought he was going to be a permanent fixture in the Demons team.

He didn't come on from there, injury and opportunity I suppose. They favoured Spencer, Jamar and Gawn for a while and now Gawn has broken out he'll be the #1. They had a few younger big guys at the Demons and this guy is not the worst of them. I hope he'll develop into a bloke who'll play the Hale role quite well, full preseason he might even be in the mix round 1. At worst he'll be a serviceable 3rd string behind BB and Cegs and we got him for nothing.

Welcome!!

Well, apparently you can be an absolute spud and you will just be made to look like a gun by the rest of the team, so I guess we'll never know if he's any good or not.

The real question is, can Fitzy do better than 4 disposals in a GF???

Hey RWH. You're such a level headed, reasonable poster. Why the hell do you support Essendrug!?

But didn't you think Natanui had the best 4 disposal game that's ever been played?

I do, Dennis.

Work with a couple of blokes who play for Casey....they reckon Fitzpatrick is a complete and utter spud.

I know we need backup, but if BB or Cegs needed a rest, I'd rather give a game to Pittonet over Fitz-*******.

Runner-up in Casey's BnF this year. Can't be doing too bad in the eyes of his coaches. Casey placed 8th this year with 9 wins, so a reasonable showing by a reasonable side. I like this move.

Plus, 22 games, 24 goals. A goal a game in a forward line that has suffered with insufficient supply for longer than they would care to remember.

I saw Fitzy play at the MCG against StKilda back in 2013 (day after the Hawks beat the weagles at Etihad). Took the young fella there as he had never been to the G (we live in Perth) and we lucked out with that crap game. However my highlight was Fitzy. I was impressed by his pressure, size and a bit of argy bargy. Showed enough for me to take notice which i don't usually. Rapt we got him and look forward to watching him develop.

Jeez, that's a tough condition to play footy with. I know that one of the consequences of diabetes is that more of your hemoglobin gets glued up with glucose, presumably this effects your cardiovascular abilities. I hope the medical team can give really good advice on dealing with that.

I'm not aware that glucose competes for the same haem binding sites for oxygen, so it shouldn't be a limiting factor for his aerobic capacity. Your right however, glucose does irreversibly bind to haemoglobin (Hb), so the amount of glycosylated Hb is a measure your glucose control for the past 3 months (lifespan of Hb)....

I can't think of (m)any recent HFC players who have by insulin dependant (type 1) diabetics.... Might be a crash course for our medicos over the summer!

Whilst Jack Fitzpatrick ain't no superstar he could be handy as a role player next season. Ceglar will take over as the number one ruckman while McEvoy now takes over Hale's role as the forward/second ruck.

Fitzpatrick is now third in line for a spot in the team if Ceglar or McEvoy miss any games with injury and he also adds some depth to our team as Pittonet continues to develop in the VFL for a couple more years as he's still a while away from making his debut.

Shrewd move by the club. An interesting point would be Fitzpatrick's willingness to train. If it were me, and I'd been delisted by Melbourne (Melbourne!), and then concurrently picked up by the reigning 3X (never tire of it :D ) premiers, I'd be buying a lottery ticket. I'd also be training my butt off from day one, and making the most of the chance I've been given. It could mean interesting things.

With that in mind, I believe it's a win-win situation for the club. At worst, we have a ready-made, back-up ruckman in case Ceglar and BB go down with injury. At best, we have Fitzpatrick training the house down and playing well in the VFL, doing a Schoey and forcing himself into the side.

Welcome, Jack. Let's see what the future holds for you.

Welcome to Hawthorn Jack.

I liked the way he conducted himself on the final 'bounce' show -- had just been delisted and came in and accepted his coach killer award - took great maturity. I hope he does well, and I look forward to watching him for Box Hill and hopefully Hawthorn.

I never get into slanging matches because I know I'll add fuel to the fire and know that if I make any disparaging comments on others clubs' boards, they'll return to what happened in 2013.

I supported the Dons starting in grade 1 1998 for no other reason than I liked how it was pronounced then.

There's been very testy times but I've stuck fat.

So we just picked up a guy who was delisted by the worst club of the last 10 years and 'won' an award for the worst play of the year?

But he showed up to accept his 'award' so he must be alright
