Matera was a natural and unique footy player.
Have we seen anyone quite like Matera since, with that burst speed, swervability and goal sense?
I seriously doubt Petch can be 'trained' to be like Matera?
But he does have some attributes that could be developed into a handy and consistent role, as long as he doesn't list-clog or prevent another more natural footy player a shot.

He was performing quite well-or heading in the right direction before Covid, with still the occasional brain farts.
Like some other players he had an interrupted season - let's hope they really take him aside and drill him with forward/wing smarts and shots on the run/tackling etc.
Even Jaydyn Stephenson went downhill in 2020..
It was a tough year to judge anyone too harshly, there's been a bit of collateral damage or fallout throughout most clubs? (coaches included)
The only one I can think of was Andrew McLeod.

Cant believe this is a active thread. Seems odd

He will move too the HB line next year. Will spend the pre season learning the craft so to speak.

Interesting idea, and if he can learn sexy Jetta-like foot skills in just 1 pre-season I will be mightily impressed.

I'm still a Petch fan, but turnovers in the front half are way less dangerous than those coming out of defense.

Another back flanker? Just what we needed!
Duggan and Cole looked excellent when moved up the ground this year, so there are potentially spots available.

It might not be a bad move as we can carry a low possession defender easier than a low possession forward (neither is ideal, but at least in defence he can be given a job and potentially taken to good spots by good players).
