List Mgmt. Welcome Jack Petruccelle (Pick 38, 2017 National Draft)

He’s very good at being in the right position inside 50 to robe and usi his pace to get just clear enough to get a snap on goal. Really classy finisher, actually. (Minus that very casual attempt on the weekend.)

I’m not surprised we want to try him up the ground a bit. That burst pace in a contested situation could be lethal in the centre bounces if he can work on his field kicking.

Really happy with his development this year.

Just want to say I never wrote this guy off when he ripped his hammie off the bone and there was no WAFL in a COVID affected year.

Hope none of you (you know who you are) who claimed he was de-list material trade the stock market...

Jack flash will be our next A-grader.

Seriously though, who TF is this guy's sponsor? Get in here.

Ok I will bite,

I reckon some will still be talking about his development in 3 years, I think he will not be in the side once we get our players back (Ryan, Shuey and Yeo) Jones is well ahead of him in my opinion.

Carton on it just for fun.

Shuey's probably only got max 2 years left. Nobody knows what's happening with Rioli and he's a damn sight better than Langdon, or even Cripps, currently.

Jones looks much better as a midfield rotation pushing forward so I think there's definitely a spot for Petch long-term in this squad.

Last year was a total write-off for development across the league so I'm happy that he appears to be continuing his growth from 2019.

I was very against the 3 year extension and I still am. Was overly generous for a player that really hadn't shown he was afl level, unless it was really on the cheap.

However, he is showing more footballing ability in the games he's played since the Saints game than I thought he had. Happy to be wrong and impressed with his finishing. The game in the weekend showed good focus on a task and he kept himself involved in the defensive side even when not getting a heap of the ball himself.

I hope we are talking about his development in 3 years time. He’ll only be 25 at that point.

The hope is of course that we are talking about it in the context of “he just finished top 10 in our b&f, let’s see him get a top 3 placing”. Rather than “he needs to work on that aspect of his game at WAFL”.

2020 was the worst of years to be injured and on the fringe. He really lost that year, but it’a good to see him bounce back from a disappointing year. Shows he has some resilience that I don’t think he had when he was drafted.

Not a betting man, but I think Cripps is more in the gun than Petch when those guys come back.

I have a lot of time for Petch, thought there was a lot to work with in 18-19. I didn't read much into 2020 form given his injuries (although I agree with others who say he shouldn't have played in the final based on form), and he's showing great signs again in 2021.

The club rates him highly too. Simpson clearly considers him best 22, or at the very least, right on the fringe.

I’ve been impressed with his contested work over the last few games. He’s winning or halving contests, taking some 50/50 marks and sticking tackles. Looks like he’s a lot more comfortable out there this year and probably needed that extra preseason to bulk up a bit.

It was revealed that the three years was a trade off for less money each year (rather than 2 years at higher cash). Was part of keeping Kennedy and Hurn, given Kelly's contract assumed some of their money would be freed up at end of 2020.

I have to eat humble pie with him over the past month. I thought he would not play for WC again and delisted asap. He still goes missing way too much though but has improved ever since St Kilda game when not injured. If he could play half forward and run through the stoppages he could be really damaging with his speed.

Yeah, people forget this. Less money than on 2 year deal.

Did well in a defensive role on Jaith. Has some great attributes at AFL level
Nice if he can carve out a niche as a forward tagger to play on the fast rebound defenders that every team seems to have now.

He still needs a lot of work on his tackling technique and I feel like he’s holding himself back from top speed to protect his hamstrings. But it’s a role he could plausibly pull off

Still not convinced by him, but surelt giving him a defensively-oriented role will help him focus, rather than a traditional flanker role which is notoriously difficult

You rang?

I had my doubts earlier this year. In his first couple of games he looked lost and wasn't feeling the pace of the game. Since then he's improved out of sight. He's running to the right places and using his pace to worry rebounding defenders. If Petch develops into a quick, skilled small forward worth 1 - 2 goals a game, then great. But if he consistently applies pressure on the rebounding defenders (Jiath, Impey last week. Laird this week) then that would be awesome.

He's also nominated himself as the chief goal celebrator. I always see him getting around the other forwards or mids when they get a goal. I get the feeling he's really enjoying his footy.

Would hate to mess with his form and you think we leave him put for the next couple of years to solidify his fwd craft but do we think we could ever get him up onto the wing or even off half back (although we have too many flankers as it is) to really utilise his pace. Fwd he can do it to but you don't get the long dashes from their just the quick bursts. Would/could he have the tank?

Maybe his defensive game isn't there and then if your going to be a distributor then your kicking game has to be on song too and maybe that's not quite him?

I think Fwd/mid (60/40 or 70/30) would be the best hope here. He's never going to be a bull inside mid, but his pace around stoppages is and could in future be an advantage. Plus defensively if he can pressure opposition as they go forward it ties into our gameplan nicely.

No point off HBF. I thought pre-season that he may be looked at there, but with our gameplan staying as it is we don't need express pace of half-back (and we have Rotham and Nelson who are both quick enough and good kicks). If we change to a run and gun style then maybe in the future - but as long as we play the turnover and control game he is more valuable in-front of the ball than behind it.

Jack is going well, well at least since the Saints game. Positioning and game sense seems to be improving a lot which means he is finding more of the ball.

I stand by my comments from last year, I think he's turning the corner and finding a balance between defend and attack but there is more in his game than he's currently showing, definite potential to be a 30+ per year goal kicker.
Petch can play but like many young players has been looking to avoid stepping on the toes of senior players IMO

He needs some LeCras or Dangerfield arrogance in his game, burn a few players off half forward, maybe some spins out of tackles, ping for the goals around the body and then lose his sh*t at Kennedy and Darling for not laying more blocks for him.

Waterman has the right idea, grow out a mullet that a nommie for a bikie gang would be proud of and slot them from outside 50 after the siren, give his opponent a bump and say the next one will be a turkey slap

Quietly putting together a pleasing season and was excellent today.

Once he believes in himself at this level I think he can be a real point of difference in this side. Must persevere.

I think his ceiling is a better version of Cripps.

Can't ask for much more than that.
