Why would you call and tell the player.
I mean seriously, for this kid it's the biggest day of his life so far. He knew he was almost certain to get picked up but let the kid have at least some surprise and build up to the announcement. With all of the offseason work he's done and how he's performed so far this year it gives that sense of satisfaction that it's paying off and being pick 1 in any draft is still a big thing.
For all the talk about up and coming mids we have we could very well find them all starting from HB particularly if we have a fit midfield with Nicnat and Yeo back in there, Sheed on one wing and Gaff on the other. Only leaves 2 primary midfield places with a couple of rotations coming from Rioli and the kids. I really hope Shuey retires and Redden goes on for one more year. I love shuey but I think he's just about cooked. Don't be surprised if he's a late out this week or not listed to play due to a cracked rib.
Looping back to this - Nth called their guy who they had decided to take at #2.
Now, I don't want to be North, but it did seem appreciated by the player (of course teams at 5/6/7 can't do that - but when you have #1 or even evidently #2 - a call is warranted prior to the draft).
