Reckon you’re undervaluing all their rucks who were far better than ROB
All you need from a ruck is a player that doesn't consistently lose their position.
A guy that doesn't get jumped all over handing the opposition silver service in the midfield, and a guy that can contest marks and/or provide the occasional handball in the chain around the ground.
ROB doesn't badly lose the ruck contests very often. Most often he negates it and comes out even or slightly behind. That's fine.
Some of his around the ground work is bordering on "consistently losing the contest" these days though. He's pretty useless at marking or bringing the ball to ground, especially from kick-outs. Can't use him in a scoring chain unless he's under literally zero pressure.
Not enough to bother spending big capital on improving, but still bad enough that he'd be somewhere in the middle of the to-upgrade list

We do need better back up than Strachan but who just doesn't have the endurance after years and years of preseasons with us.And further to this. Just did a quick google - to get thoughts of external peoples views of ROB.

A whole lot of press and stats and external articles suggesting ROB is nowhere as bad as you think he is....
He isn't a great ruckman, but he is a perfectly adequate AFL standard ruckman.
We agree to disagree then because I rate them all better than ROB, but I can’t remember Campbell and think you’re undervaluing Keating and Nankervis.I don't really think their ruckman were far better than ROB.
Brisbane had Clark Keating. A serviceable ruckman. Definitely on ROB's level.
I will give ya the 2007 - 2011 Geelong Cats as Ottens was very important. However their recent flag - Stanley wasn't anything better than ROB.
Hawthorn - Had Renouf and Campbell early. Then had Hale and McEvoy (as a 2nd Ruck).
Richmond had Nankervis. Meh. Was not top 10 in Richmonds B&F in any of the flag years.
With the exception of Otten (who was really a 2nd ruck / forward) I genuinely dont really think that replacing any of these Ruckman with ROB would have changed the outcome of these teams destiny.
Just one who gets dropped annually, imagine if we had a suitable replacement, we wouldn’t have played ROB anywhere near as muchAnd further to this. Just did a quick google - to get thoughts of external peoples views of ROB.

The club disagrees. They are perfectly happy with Strachan. We do need better back up than Strachan but who just doesn't have the endurance after years and years of preseasons with us.
I seriously doubt that, didn't take to long for them to bin that experiment again....get back to me if he gets an extension beyond 2025 when he's out of contract again. The club disagrees. They are perfectly happy with Strachan.
We calling clark keating and Brad ottens mediocre? Many on this board disagree.
The dynasty teams of Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond all agree - Just get an AFL capable ruckman and build up the more important positions.

Given he was contracted would have left them only one option....pay him out. Happy maybe not quite the right word.In fairness to Jackster - the club is perfectly happy with Strachan. If they weren't they would have sorted it this offseason.
Actions speak louder than words. If ROB goes down our options are Strachan or TMurray until the midseason draft.

Really hope Peatling can come in and be that ruckman we so desperately need
Hopefully more of a Kent. But how does he compare to Clark Keating?
Kent Keating ??Hopefully more of a Kent.
