Wellingham - Traded to West Coast

They don't want pick 3 for Viney, they want to use 13.

I might be wrong about this, but I have a feeling pick 13 doesn't enter into the F/S bidding b/c it's a compensation pick, ie it's not a designated first/second/third round pick

Melbourne fans would know for sure?

Other clubs such as Melbourne were interested in Ball, but he refused to talk to them.

That, along with putting a price on his head, made him look unattractive to any other club that may of had thoughts of picking him up.

He wanted to get to Collingwood, and he made sure he got there.

The AFL would never penalise Collingwood for draft tampering due to Eddie's influence.

Tarrant threatened to retire if any other club picked him up in the draft.

Smells like draft tampering to me.

You should look at it through both eyes without the black and white glasses on.

How can it be draft tampering if he wasn't drafted numbnuts? he was traded lol, Geez some people NFI.

As president yes but in the media he should be neutral.

Why? No media personalities are really neutral anyway, so why hide it? Eddie is biased as shit, and that's the way he should present himself. What difference does it make if he isn't neutral? He's more annoying? Who cares, don't watch him then.

So you accept both mediocrity, lack of professionalism and impartiality? So much for journalistic ethics.

It isn't hysterical.

The state of sports journalism is so dire in Australia and has been for so long, that people just come to accept it. Facts are though, that it is the pits.

Maybe but thats a whole different topic and whole different board.

Eddie Maguire has done nothing except say that he wants his club to get the best possible deal for Sharrod Wellingham. Whether hes a media person or not doesnt have a lot to do with it. I'm sure the Crows also want a great deal for Kurt Tippett, too.

Team A talks departing player up , Team B and players manager talks incoming player down. Its not new.

Ease up with the sensible stuff Timmy, there's no room for logic in this thread if you have a little browse.

They were highly rated at the time.... Everyone has a degree in hindsight - including you unfortunately.
No, they were both laughable trades at the time & have proven to be so.
The Wellingham deal is not so. The Boot is a good player, playing well in the seniors & consistent. Neither of the two you mention were close to that at the time.

All jokes aside, how good do pies supporters reckong Wellingham will be if given enough time in the midfield? He'll be a nice addition to a very young developing midfield in NicNat,Shuey,S.Selwood,Gaff,Masten and Sheppard.

Stats below say Wellingham will be West Coast's best midfielder next year. Played as a permanent forward this year and almost matched D Kerr (West Coast best player) in every major stat lol. For me the trade should look like this: Wellingham in exchange for D Kerr & pick 17 or no deal, pies will be more than happy to keep him if they don't get a worthy draft pick. Pick 17 is a bargain for Wellingham. The ham would be very handy for West Coast as their current midfield group is average at best.

All the above shows is apart from Kerr having more disposals, contested possessions, effective disposals and clearances whilst having less time on ground and most likely copping a tagger is that Wellingham playing in the forward line, manages to only kick 0.1 more goals than as Kerr.

The only thing you have proved is that he is worth a maximum second round pick. :thumbsu:

According to Champion Data, Brock McLean was the equal most effective player (per TOG) in the league the season before he got traded (along with Chris Judd, in his prime).

He had an injury riddled season, but he was widely considered one of the best young mids in the competition.

Yes its laughable in hindsight (though he may be in the process of turning that around), but at the time the trade was pretty fair.

He'll slot in very nicely. Modern midfields have a rotation of 8-10. If he can fit into Collingwoods he'll easily fit into West Coast's.

The clearances are the key stat, numbers don't always tell the story either as Kerr has always been a marked man.

Melbourne have offered Wellingham $450 k / year on an open market. That is a 1st Rd Pick.

review your luke ball situation. no need to say more. we can offer buddy 2mill a year, doesnt mean he wants to come.

2nd rounder it will be. it will never be a first rounder. sooner magpies fans accept that the sooner they can start mourning :)

still have to laugh at dawes for 13 requests.

Didn't play the whole season at a club that was bottom. Was traded when Carlscum needed a KPF, they then took Lucas, another midfielder, which again was funny. Considering pick 11 to 21 included Gysberts, Talia, Jetta, Howard, Pittard Menzel Tappscot Griffiths Fyfe & Bastinac. That's every pick except Lucas.

Seems like a bad pick using foresight.

LOL. I think the Pies have shown when they have players they really don't want, they're prepared to make reasonable deals. Required players though are worth the world and then some.
What makes you think we didn't want Nick Davis? Nick Davis was a better player at Collingwood than at Sydney, if the infamous preliminary final performance is removed from the Sydney chapters of his biography. Nick was homesick, wanting to go home to mummy and daddy. We lost him for pick 28, which was an outrage.

Nick Davis was one of our very best mid-fielders, generating high possession numbers and kicking long-distance goals. He was the son of a former full-forward Craig Davis. All the players given cheaply to Sydney were required players, though Shaw was a special case, more a disciplinary trade. Sydney could never complain about the deals they have done with us.

Making Kerr's numbers even more valuable. Even with a guy tagging him he still manages to be far more effective than than Wellingham.
Kerr would be a first round pick. You're kidding yourselves if you think Wellingham is anywhere near the same calibre as him.
