West Coast or Adelaide - Who is better placed?

Interesting. I would content that a claim of "we had nothing to play for" was an excuse, whereas an observation that "the Crows focussed on body building and strength and so were too heavy and slow and lacked fitness" was an admission of a bad strategy. To my mind to offer an excuse is more foolish than to admit an error in strategy. To each his own I suppose.
None of the posters here were playing, so it isn't an excuse, its an observation.

Adelaide's form in the preseason does tend to be a fair predictor for its form in the season proper.
Seems to be the same for West Coast.

Wait.. what? In 2012 Port lost one game by under 18 points as well as one draw. That's a long way off 10 games and that's even with me being generous and extending a "few goals" out to 3.

I think 2013 will prove to be an aberration for all 3 clubs. I think Port will finish below both Adelaide and WC, and of all the teams pushing for those 5 - 8 positions, rate Port about the bottom.

You have jumped in on this sub-thread topic a bit late. It was a WCE supporter who originally claimed that "the Crows focussed on body building and strength and so were too heavy and slow and lacked fitness" was an excuse for the Crows mid-season loss to WCE, and for WCE in the last round that "we had nothing to play for" was a reason for their loss to the Crows. In this sub-thread I merely contend that the exact opposite conclusion is at least as reasonable.

Both are observations at best, more correctly assumptions. He is assuming they were not trying, you are assuming they lacked fitness.

It's probably been said before but the fact you had 3 players retiring (I think it was 3) would surely exclude the Eagles not being up for that game! If not then the retirees would have reason to be asking questions.

We beat you in Adelaide earlier in the season, and then you trounced us by 86 points in Perth.

Do you really think Rd23 was our best effort?

Actually I do remember being amazed at the lack of even a whimper they gave for two club greats going out.

I'm not assuming it ... the Crows definitely lacked fitness in 2013. They had a lead in the second half of the game, and were overrun, in quite a number of games. The Crows lost five games by less than two goals.

The game against WCE at AAMI was just one of many similar games for the Crows in 2013.

West Coast will bounce back, they do every couple of years and their home ground advantage will return.

Adelaide doesn't have a home ground advantage anymore, we haven't even trained on AO.

It will be very close and come down to injuries, not only for these 2 teams but for about 10 teams fighting it out for 5 spots in the 8. Footy tipping is going to be hard work this year.

Both teams really went off the boil last year, but I have a feeling WC will do well this year; don't see much change coming from the Crows...

Reverse their fixtures so far and Adelaide would look to be flying while the eagles would be winless.

Yeah way too early to be making judgements since Adelaide have played two top 4 contenders whilst west coast have played two sides that will be fighting to get out of the bottom 4

Right now you'd have to say West Coast. The jury is still out as to whether the Eagles have improved from last year but they haven't gone backwards like Adelaide. Judging by their last two performances Adelaide are looking like potential bottom 4 material, in contrast to West Coast.

Way to early to judge. West Coast have played bottom 4 sides and just scaped over the line against St Kilda at home.

Adelaide have lost to top 8 sides in Sydney, Port and Geelong.

Let's see how West Coast goes next week against Geelong.

Sydney have lost to GWS and a wobbly Collingwood, why should we assume they will finish top 8?

Also a four goal win is just scrapping over the line now?

I doubt we will beat Geelong next week, but we can only play who we are scheduled to play, and so far we are 3-0.

Write us off on your own peril mate.
