The content is mostly old news now, but at the time was worth noting for the double-page WB content in a paper that has NRL and RU as its most prominent sports.

I presume the Rohan Connolly article appeared in the Vic press too.

Then the next day, another big article ...

Hmmm... seems the common theme here is a long haired photogenic hunk with a massive Twitter following.
Takes up a lot of the real estate on each page.

Baz is keeping us relevant!
Choice of word in the headline is pretty funny

AFL: Liam Jones meets with Western Bulldogs as potential homecoming looms after league relaxed vax rules

More than a decade after he began life as an AFL footballer at Whitten Oval, vaccine-hesitant former Blue Liam Jones has met with the Western Bulldogs as he eyes a return to the top level.

A homecoming for Liam Jones back to the Western Bulldogs is a step closer after a secret meeting at football boss Chris Grant’s Williamstown home.
The former Blue was spotted entering Grant’s house with his partner on Tuesday morning where he sat down with Dogs officials including list manager Sam Power.
Jones is in Melbourne to hold talks with a number of clubs after the AFL last week cleared the way for the vaccine-hesitant defender to play next year.
The Bulldogs desperately need to boost its tall defender stocks and there is a fairytale feel about a player who they developed for six years returning to the fold.
Jones, 31, played mainly as a forward during his 66-game stay at the Whitten Oval before moving to Carlton where his career took off when switched to defence.

Liam Jones has met with the Western Bulldogs in what could be a return to the club that gave him his start in AFL footy.
He walked away from Carlton after 95 games in seven seasons last November because of the league‘s vaccine mandate.
Jones has been playing for Palm Beach Currumbin in the QAFL.
He met Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro in Queensland last week with an eye to returning to the top level.
Carlton has ruled out redrafting Jones with the Blues likely to seek compensation from the AFL given he’s now been given the green light to return.

Jones finished eighth in Carlton’s best and fairest last year after playing 19 of a possible 22 matches.
He rated elite among key defenders for one-on-one contests and intercept marks and above average for spoils and intercept possessions.
Essendon coach Ben Rutten last week confirmed his club was doing its “due diligence” around the possible recruitment of Jones.
The Bombers’ developing young backline has been exposed this year and are undersized.
“There’s some recent shifting in some of the rules,” Rutten said when asked about Jones on Friday.
“So it’s really just part of our due diligence as a club. Moving forward we’re looking at all avenues as to how we can improve our list and improve our squads.
“All that stuff will play out as the year goes on.”
The AFL opened the door for unvaccinated players including Jones and St Kilda AFL Women’s young gun Georgia Patrikios to return to training immediately, shifting its firm vaccine ruling to “strongly encouraging” all AFL and AFLW players and industry figures to have an up to date vaccine status.

So the AFL no longer requires players to be vaccinated? How do the clubs feel about that? Seeing they are the ones having to manage the repercussions at the coalface.
Easy, Jones just plays in full PPE. Team colours, of course!

Seriously, you raise a good point. How will the playing list feel, but also the support staff - doctors, physios, trainers? Will fans retract their hands as he runs out to avoid a high five? Vaccination doesn't prevent transmission, but mitigates the effects. Will people take that into account though? It's a funny old world in 2022.

For someone who has made a living being one of the best components of the mental side of the game Bevo just can't help himself.

Costs nothing to not weigh in on everything constantly making both yourself and the club look like a whinging tosser but carry on

Honestly can’t stand listening to this bloke anymore
He got asked the question what do you want him to say no comment, next question please

After listening to Bevo's presser, the point he was trying to make was why change the rule now? It is a 2 week crackdown. There have been similar ones this season, and they have all gone by the wayside. Why make umpiring even harder. Reward the person that gets the ball and don't call the marginal ones.

Sounds reasonable to me.

"Would rather talk about he massive game this week and how we really need to show we belong in the finals race by beating a legit contender".

Right now the press know if they ask Bevo anything he'll bite.

Sort of like feeding chickens to crocs. Worth doing because it's a great spectacle (story) ... but you don't want to get too close.

See, all Bevo did was get asked a question and answered it thoroughly.

The idea of him “blasting” or what other words the media are using to blow it out of proportion are done so to get the small people talking.

If you share the link and criticise Bevo for it, the issue isn’t Bevo. The issue is you.

The bloke will take any excuse to have a whinge about some sort of hardship - obviously it’s just going to be taken out of context considering the “bulldog free kick” love in. Just don’t be stupid, Its pretty easy to dodge a question, I mean he does it week in week out as soon as any sort of half decent questions asked that questions him or his tactics, but when there’s a chance to have a whinge, never dodged those ones 😂

He’s just mentally draining to listen to even as a fan, can’t imagine how it is for the players.

I reckon the playing list will feel better if he keeps Hawkins or Tom Lynch quiet in a big game.

You whinge infinitely more than I’ve ever heard Luke whinge mate.

ON THE OUTER: Why can't he get a game for your club?

Who is surprisingly out of favour with the coach at your club?

Zaine Cordy

The versatile tall defender and forward hasn't played at AFL level since round 10. He is available this week after missing last week through health and safety protocols but has been playing in the Footscray VFL side in the previous weeks. Cordy, a premiership player in attack for the Bulldogs in 2016, also played in last year's Grand Final defeat to Melbourne and played nine of the first 10 games this season before losing his place in the side. He is out of contract at the end of this year. - Callum Twomey

Others on the outer: Roarke Smith (seven games)

People moan about the club constantly playing the small target and not allowing anybody to talk to or say anything of worth to the media.

People moan when the clubs figurehead actually does speak to the media and has something to say that isnt the usual small target bullshit.

There is much that Bevo can be criticised for, speaking his mind whenever he sees fit is not one of those things.

All he did for Cordy is list career stats, not one mention that his form has been down for the better part of 3 years.

Reckon it's all over, Red Rover, for Zaine

Plus he's clearly publicly defending an area we are strong in. We are clean tacklers and get lots of high frees for attacking the ball. It's clearly been said to put some pressure back on the AFL as it's on on field strength of ours.

Some people would want us to just roll over and cop whatever changes are rule changes made on the spot that chip away at advantages we've built up over time.
