I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

Last year norf traded out pick 1 and JHF for picks 2, 3 and ports F1.

Seems a little low, essentially trading out 2x pick 1's for the next 2 picks and what will be this years pick in the early 20's.

Now i can see why any trade hypotheticals look undervalued.

Hopefully WCE put it out there any offers for pick 1 would need to be overs to even be considered.

Something like Norfs picks 2, 3 and pick 19 for pick 1. Thats overs, but thats what has to be pushed.

There are two main schools here:
1. Get Reid
2. Draft Curtin
I am slightly different. I want both. With these talent players plus some future returned home talent in the next two years, we should have a very strong team again.

Which would be an unlikely situation that we could get both, and leaves you having to rank one over the other.

Not being a campaigner, but someone has to point out that the "Happy to play anywhere.." theme of that article is really a load of nonsense.

The 6 teams he played for are all in Victoria. Anyone going to mention that?

So not quite the same is it O' Bree? Guessing it's Vic Country, Australia U18's, Bendigo, Carlton VFL, Bombers VFL and that local footy club of his?

Bit different to permanently relocating to WA and only playing in Victoria probably 9 times a year, excluding finals.

That said, I've been happy to draft Reid since day 1. If he leaves he leaves. Big whoop. We'll be compensated if that happens.

What is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL is that our dickhead medical/S&C team keeps him on the park. If he spends a decent portion of his initial 2 year contract injured, then pulls the "Go home card", his value would have plummeted.

That's the only way I can imagine us getting stitched up with picking him.

A Daniel Kerr type or level of player would be very acceptable.

Looks a bit of a different player to Daniel to me. Definitely bigger.
If size is used as part of the judgement, Judd is definitely bigger too; plus Judd can‘t mark (shoulder problem). Reid‘s playing style is closer to Kerr than Judd.

Reid’s playing style isn’t close to either one of Judd or Kerr’s, both are incredibly lazy comparisons.

Reid is in the mould of Dusty and Petracca in terms of playing style.

Every player is unique.

Love what Reid projects to bring - clearance, burst speed, contested ball, brilliant mark, goal kicker …..

Salivating, but can’t put too much expectation on a young guy, he will need time to find his game at AFL level like virtually every draftee although Judd slotted in pretty well immediately.

Clearance, burst speed, contested ball, good overhead, can kick goals.

Dare I say...sounds a lot like Petch.

Maybe Reid plays like.....Reid. maybe that's what makes him so unique that he doesn't become the next Judd or Kerr or dusty, but forges his own...plays like Reid. Which is why we have to take him.

From Jay Clark in a Herald Sun article:

REID HAPPY TO PLAY ANYWHERE

Harley Reid’s coach Danny O’Bree says the No. 1 prospect has shown he is prepared to play anywhere with his remarkable season showing leadership while playing for six separate teams.

O’Bree’s Bendigo Pioneers lost the Coates League wildcard clash against the Geelong Falcons over the weekend despite 165 ranking points, 27 possessions, eight clearances and five tackles for Reid.

He has played for Bendigo, local side Tongala, the AFL academy side, Vic Country and VFL sides Carlton and Essendon.

O’Bree labelled the attention Reid as “unprecedented” through a stream of stories about whether he would reject West Coast’s trade interest and his “liking” of negative Eagles social media posts.

Reid will now prepare for the AFL draft combine from October 6-8 but O’Bree said Reid could scarcely have been more impressive.

“He is injury-free. He cramped in the last few minutes of the game and a few people were worried but he will train for the combine and get ready for that and then playing round 1 somewhere next year,” he said.

”He played in six different teams and he was excellent in all six. People questioned if he could get better but it was an extremely successful year.

“For what he has had to endure through the socials and attention it’s massive credit to him and his character. He has just got bigger and better.

“His leadership is one area we really got to work on. We made sure he was the one driving standards, galvanising the male and females groups. He was organising the chat groups, he was incredibly focused on his local football club and their fundraising drives.

“He is the most competitive kid I have seen. Even when he has the pink bib on in training which means no contact, he wants to put it in his pocket and train as hard as he can.

“We had fun with him about (which club was going to win the wooden spoon). It was all completely uncontrollable but we know he is happy to have a laugh about it.

“What he has had to endure this year. We haven’t seen it before and we won’t see it again. For him to handle it the way he has, it’s just been amazing.”

TBH, I think Reid will be a very good player, but I dont rate him as Judd like. I believe he is more a Daniel Kerr type of player.
Closer to Dusty or Petracca than Kerr. Reid is far better overhead and better goal sense than Kerr. He's more or less the same height as Trac and Dusty too. He also can play in the backline as well which shows he probably has more versatility than all 3 of them.

You’re a lot closer with the comparison than Judd or Kerr he’s nothing like them. 👍🏻
I actually see a fair bit of Toby Greene in him in both the way he’s plays up forward and also his attitude/ mannerisms.

Interesting. I got Hurn vibes from Curtin myself but hadn't seen anyone here or on the draft board mention it (it may have been mentioned but I haven't seen it). Curtin does seem like he'd be a decent intercept mark though. A bit like a hybrid between Gov and Hurn.

I still wouldn't give up Reid for that though. Do a deal with North to get them a decent defender, do a deal with Gold Coast to get pick 4 and take Reid and Curtin.

Assuming Nth get compo as expected they will take Curtin. That’s fine, it is impossible to take every single talent in any one draft.

Take Reid, let GC trade pick 5 to the dogs for 11 + 18. Then discuss trading for 11 with GC.

Knowing that 17 will still give them a decent points premium, plus the fact that live trading on draft night doesn’t carry the ‘open list spot’ issues that trading prior does (and our agreement not to bid on Walter) - they will probably be in a position to be interested in our F2nd plus 2023 points change. Pick will end up about 14/15 where there is still talent (generally KPP or flank, and both are a need). Allows us to keep 19 (really 24/25) and take 3 picks inside 25ish.

There are talls available around those 2 later picks (KPP and ruck, preferably not another ruck but someone like Edwards at 25 would probably be difficult to pass up). If we can land Dev and Brockman in trades, that helps replenish our mids (plus Reid obviously) and small forwards. So talls plus another small back (both types available in the 15-25 range) would be the glaring list deficiencies.
