I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

If size is used as part of the judgement, Judd is definitely bigger too; plus Judd can‘t mark (shoulder problem). Reid‘s playing style is closer to Kerr than Judd.
Reid's not a player we've had in terms of style. His more a Pectracca if we are going to compare. Big body crash and bash type thats hard to tackle and has good goal sense when pushed up forward. Reid is like Pectracca with Dustin Martin's don't argue.

That’s why Melb are going hard for Pick 1 , we need to just take the Elite A grader and not be bothered picking 2 B or C grader’s..

Last year norf traded out pick 1 and JHF for picks 2, 3 and ports F1.

Seems a little low, essentially trading out 2x pick 1's for the next 2 picks and what will be this years pick in the early 20's.

Now i can see why any trade hypotheticals look undervalued.

Hopefully WCE put it out there any offers for pick 1 would need to be overs to even be considered.

Something like Norfs picks 2, 3 and pick 19 for pick 1. Thats overs, but thats what has to be pushed.

North were forced to just accept anything reasonable..

It was also a completely different situation. Last year was an even spread of talent, and even though North traded pick 1 they still got the player they would have taken at that selection anyway.

This year there is an absolute standout for pick 1, and if we were to shift down to pick two, there is no way known that Reid would still be there for us like Sheezle was for the Roos last year.

From Jay Clark in a Herald Sun article:

REID HAPPY TO PLAY ANYWHERE

Harley Reid’s coach Danny O’Bree says the No. 1 prospect has shown he is prepared to play anywhere with his remarkable season showing leadership while playing for six separate teams.

O’Bree’s Bendigo Pioneers lost the Coates League wildcard clash against the Geelong Falcons over the weekend despite 165 ranking points, 27 possessions, eight clearances and five tackles for Reid.

He has played for Bendigo, local side Tongala, the AFL academy side, Vic Country and VFL sides Carlton and Essendon.

O’Bree labelled the attention Reid as “unprecedented” through a stream of stories about whether he would reject West Coast’s trade interest and his “liking” of negative Eagles social media posts.

Reid will now prepare for the AFL draft combine from October 6-8 but O’Bree said Reid could scarcely have been more impressive.

“He is injury-free. He cramped in the last few minutes of the game and a few people were worried but he will train for the combine and get ready for that and then playing round 1 somewhere next year,” he said.

”He played in six different teams and he was excellent in all six. People questioned if he could get better but it was an extremely successful year.

“For what he has had to endure through the socials and attention it’s massive credit to him and his character. He has just got bigger and better.

“His leadership is one area we really got to work on. We made sure he was the one driving standards, galvanising the male and females groups. He was organising the chat groups, he was incredibly focused on his local football club and their fundraising drives.

“He is the most competitive kid I have seen. Even when he has the pink bib on in training which means no contact, he wants to put it in his pocket and train as hard as he can.

“We had fun with him about (which club was going to win the wooden spoon). It was all completely uncontrollable but we know he is happy to have a laugh about it.

“What he has had to endure this year. We haven’t seen it before and we won’t see it again. For him to handle it the way he has, it’s just been amazing.”

Reid’s playing style isn’t close to either one of Judd or Kerr’s, both are incredibly lazy comparisons.

Reid is in the mould of Dusty and Petracca in terms of playing style.

Reid's not a player we've had in terms of style. His more a Pectracca if we are going to compare. Big body crash and bash type thats hard to tackle and has good goal sense when pushed up forward. Reid is like Pectracca with Dustin Martin's don't argue.
You really like to copy others idea which has already been mentioned. However your only idea of "Big body..." needs correction. You don‘t realise that Reid is shorter and lighter than our E Hewitt. Reid is no fatty Pectracca nor rugby trained Dusty Martin.

As Bacchus said "Every player is unqiue", he should be your writing model. Analyse Reid‘s attributes like he did. It can add more weight to your arguement. Everything you said about goal sense and push forward, Kerr can do better at his peak. He is strong enough to take Barry Hall down.

No need to trade Number one out to add some depth, we'll be getting another one next year when we really bottom out. Losing Hurn and Shuey is going to hurt.

Reid feels like our Jack Darling replacement to me, albeit more athletic.

I think Toby Greene and De Goey are reasonable comparisons for Reid. Of course I hope he ends up somehow better than both, but if that’s his floor we’re in good company.

BASED ON ASSUMPTION NORTH GET MACKAY CONCESSION PICK 3.

North trade 2,3
GC trade 5, 2024 F1
WC trade 1

North receive 1, GC 2024 F1
GC receive 2
WC receive 3,5

Draft night

1 Reid (NM), 2 Not Curtin (GC), 3 Curtin (WC), 4 Walter (GC - Match Haw bid), 5 ... (HAW), 6 ... (WC)

North have a Rd 1 pick banked for 2024.

I can't see how anybody loses here.

I'd be ecstatic if he had a similar trajectory to those two (minus the umpire pushing of the former and off-field floggishness of the latter) - they are both match winners which is what you want your pick 1 to do.

You’re a lot closer with the comparison than Judd or Kerr he’s nothing like them.
I actually see a fair bit of Toby Greene in him in both the way he’s plays up forward and also his attitude/ mannerisms.

To me, his forward craft is identical to Dusty’s, he likes to hang around as the deepest forward and once he gets the defender isolated, it’s over just about every single time, he’s too strong and good aerially for most defenders to combat.

‘reject West Coast’s trade interest’…what the actual ****? Does Jay Clark not know the difference between trading and drafting? I’m embarrassed on their behalf.

Not disputing that we are going to have pick 1 again next year. That may well happen. I agree about not trading number 1 pick this year.

But I don’t think we will miss either Hurn or Shuey greatly. Shuey contributed in a few games in patches, sometimes for only a quarter or a half. Hurn contributed well in the thirteen games he played but I think his role can be covered by others such as McGovern, Barrass, Hough, Cole, even Witherden. Fitness is the key.

I question whether we will bottom out any further. We have nothing left to lose.
Older players who came back and helped out later in the year such as Cripps, Gov, Yeo weren’t there for most of the year so they weren’t really a factor.

I guess the hope is by the time these older players are phased out younger ones such as Bazzo, Hough, Long, Brockman, Ginbey, Hewett, Reid etc will be ready to take over. We wait and see.

In this scenario we would pick Duursma at 3 which would force Hawthorn to take Watson at 5, leaving Curtin to slip through to us. If we do it the other way around we would miss out on Duursma.

Wtf you on about. Reid is a big body midfielder. If you can't see that your blind.

Kerr's great and it's nothing negative towards Kerr and what his done. The comparison is way off with your suggestion. Get the Goggles off for a second.

I don’t get why people want to throw in 19. In a year where there is no strong standout best player then the deal seems ok.
but if they want Harley then surely it’s pick 1 for picks 2 and 3 and that’s it.

if they don’t like that and I hope they don’t then we just take Harley.

I would not regard player shorter and lighter than E Hewett as a "big body" midfielder. He might grow bigger but still a long way to be called "big body".
