I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

I clearly remember the hype around Jack Watts.
The masses get led very easily, you don’t have to look too far back through history to see that.
It’s almost as if Harley Reid is destined for 5 Brownlows, 10 all Australians, and will get 20 more possessions a game than any other kid drafted this year, if you believe the hype.
Personally I call bullshit.
Lucky your not in charge of recruitment or you will forever having to use the Handle No4

Norf board rumour is norf aren't into Curtin anymore they suspect he might not make it as a KPD at grade level.

I do sort of agree. Contested marking hasn't shone through in wafl league. Also there's a big assumption he can fill out his frame. So third tall defender is medium case scenario

Brander couldn't fill out his frame.

In saying that should we now get pick 4 for guaranteed Curtin and/or a 25% chance of mckener?

Would have to trade F1 for pick 4 (6). GC would have to trade it before pick 1 or 2 so we’d need to be sure Curtain or McKercher would be there. IMO it will come down to whether North select Curtain or Watson with pick 3 (they will take McKercher at 2). Whoever they don’t pick will be available to us as it sounds Hawks into Duursma. Brady will give us the mail in time. Of course this may all change (apart from Reid at #1) at the combine.

Watson is a hard no and that's coming from him. We are in no position to draft him and nor would we with his attitude. He will refuse to come to us. Major flight risk.

It's just too risky to trade our future 1st.
So many ifs. But what if we finished last next year. That's giving up pick 1 for pick 4. Is Curtin really worth it is the question

Absolutely tiny sample but against the Allies he was schooled by real quality U18 forwards. Sticks in the back of my mind. A defensive utility player perhaps?

That’s the point I was making. If it’s Curtin or McKercher that is going to slide then we have to decide if we offer our F1 to GCS. Watson is a hard no coming from us. Comes across as an arrogant, unprofessional little s**t who would probably cry if tackled too hard by Yeoy in match simulation. He can’t “refuse” to go anywhere. You sign up for the draft, you go where you’re picked and I have confidence (however misplaced) that the AFL would ensure that any kid threatening to sit out 2 years NEVER plays AFL footy. It would immediately destroy the integrity of the draft system, which has already been severely damaged by mummy’s boy JHF. I actually hope they are discussing increasing the first contract from 2 to 3 years with a CLUB option for 4 years. Time to stop these manipulative little s**ts and player managers dead in their tracks.

Agreed.

I'm not completely against the idea of trading future 1st for Curtin. Be nice to get Reid and Curtin in this draft.
If we improve even slightly next season to say 12th then yeah it's worth it. And I guess we can work on next year's draft to try and improve our position into the top 10 by trading or working out something if we lost our first.

We need to be dead certain though that Curtin falls to that pick. Someone call Brady Rawlings and ask him if Kangas are taking Curtin lol. We could make it work. Tough one. To give up future first or not.

I didn't like his game on the weekend.
His highlights here are good but can he transition to AFL. Will need a few years to develop. Curtin is a risky prospect. Could be a star but he also could be a Brander which makes me not want to give up too much for. So much to dissect.

2 x first year players are unlikely going to be the reason we improve from 18th to 12th

Yeah not saying that. We could improve simply by improving our fitness. It was obvious this season we are completely underdone. You look at Adelaide for example. Were down the bottom but there fitness levels alone have help them be competitive in one offseason.

With a good pre season we could improve a hell of a lot.
I look at the Bulldogs game and think if we get rid of the deadwood and have some depth coming through with the right balance and a firing Kelly next season anything is possible. Need to get it right this offseason. Trade in Brockman and another ruck. Eagles put an offer to Dev Robertson so that's one to watch aswell.

Brady will tell us who they are taking don’t worry. RE: F1 I don’t think our situation is as diabolical as is being reported. If our senior players can stay on the park we have some fantastic youth, the problem next year will be the 4th-10th year age group where other than Oscar and a bit of B Williams action there’s almost no high quality talent. Beyond that the question will be if the vets can stay fit and contribute enough until the young boys come into that age group and the prime of their careers for a flag tilt late 20s.

Slight improvement to 12th? That would be a massive improvement from a team that finished 18th with 55%. Yes a fit team and some game time in our youngsters should help us climb a bit but which 6 teams do you think we will be capable of jumping next year?
Bottom 4 beckons.

Some people are going to be disappointed next year when we have another season like the one we have just had.

We have a long grind ahead of us to improve to get off the bottom of the ladder.

Alternative is we give Gold Coast our picks 19 35 38 54 for pick 4.

Can it be done. They just need points to match there academy players so might be willing.
We get Reid Curtin and still have future first intact. Pick 4 is 2034 points so we need to do better then that for it to be worthwhile.

Pick 19 is 948 points
Pick 35 is 522 points
Pick 38 is 465 points
Pick 54 is 220 points
Pick 57 is 182 points

Total 2337 points.

So we only take 2 picks to the draft?
What are we using to get Brockman/Robertson/other in as well?

It's too many draft picks being burned by doing that move

We go to the draft completely naked after pick 1 and 4 😂

Just tell Hawks sorry but the cabinets empty. We picking Brockman in the PSD.

Robertson we trade for our future third.
Likewise if anything else use a future later picks while keeping our future first.

Nice in theory, but our list needs a lot of work.

Need to find the balance of quality Vs quantity and only going with 2 draft picks is putting too many eggs in one basket

All we need now is for someone to try and differentiate between inside mids and inside bulls while getting strangely worked up about it all and we're at peak pre-draft bullshittery.

‘Elite inside Bulls’ 🤪

Two picks this year?

We'd be inventing "long term tanking".

It means the 2-3 year draft focused rebuild starts from 2024.

Nobody is that patient.

It's an interesting one to think about. How highly do we rate those late picks. Pick 19 really is the only one that hurts.

Picks in the 30s and 50s are a 50/50 anyhow. Our future is getting quality players. Reid and Curtin is the way to do it. We can work things out with players like Brockman through other means like PSD. Prob could get it done with pick 70. This year is actually a good year for it. We don't have anyone that's much value asking to come to us except those two who aren't worth much.

Brockman is basically free and Robertson will come cheap anyhow too if he decides too. Later future pick we could use. It's do-able and not as risky as you'd think. Would you be unhappy if we got Reid Curtin Brockman Robertson in this draft period. That's a decent hull. But it probably won't happen. Be worth suggesting to GC if they would be interested though.

For me, the rebuild is about numbers now.

Bringing in 4 players this period means we have to persist with a handful of plodders we don't need to assess any more.

We should be aiming to draft three players with 19, 35 & 38 and getting two academy kids in the 40-55 range with the later picks.

Then also topping up the rookies (long term prospects).

Curtin would effectively cost us a haul of 5 fresh kids to work with. Only need to find a combo of 2 that become 22 starters for it to be a success.

We are definitely bottom 4, but no chance at getting No.1 with McKay and Goldstein moving on from North.

North lose their ruckman who had a better season than Bailey Williams and a KPD (with Logue also out to an ACL) reeks of a 2/3 win season if they are lucky.

Hawks will be neck and neck with us for 2/3 pick.

Wheels might fall off Geelong, but even Witho/Gaff wouldn't get a game there.

Just an idea.

We need a backup ruck to replace Nic Nat. If Williams goes down we are in huge trouble.
