Weitering and Ridley too close to call for me
Parish and Walsh too close to call for me
Merrett Easily over Cripps on current form
God knows we need a Mckay type player on our team but i'd personally take Stringer over Mckay he was (IMO) the most damaging player in the second half of the season. I could see this argued either way both amazing in their own right.
And lastly i'd take Tippa over Curnow too, Not that it matters I think we've probably seen the last of Tippa sadly.

Obviously we all probably biased whether we can admit it or not.

Idk why we comparing these select handful of players though, half of them are completely different players.

Might be hard to call for you..but Weitering and Walsh over Ridley and Parish is pretty easy for everyone else.
Nobody would choose the Essendon player over the Carlton player if they had a choice. Nobody.
Some of you other stuff was ok.

Essendon averaged over 100 points in the last 4 rounds without Jones or Hooker and without Tippa for 2 of those as well so im not too worried, the forward line will be our weakest area of the ground but a good system can make up for that. I still rate Stringers midfield work over Mckays contested marks and 17 more goals.
Stringer and Mckay very different players, can't and shouldn't compare them, i would love a Stringer at Carlton for the clearance forward role.

When you look at the stats it doesnt even look close between Parish and Walsh. Parish's are better.

Yet players coaches and umpires all picked Walsh as the better player... stats only tell half of the story for many players.

If it went to a poll im guessing Walsh would win out too, as would Weitering>Ridley in an absolute landslide.
Walsh vs Parish is atleast a reasonable debate but how any Dons fans could honestly say Ridley a loose 3rd tall rebounder is on the same level as Weitering is baffling.

Question to Dons fans, if Weitering had the opportunity to play in Ridleys role how much do you think it would inflate his current statlines? Playing loose the majority of games, taking huge % of kickouts and not having to deal with a rampaging Tom Hawkins trying to shove him off the play?

Which club do you hate the most?

I feel like this factors into a lot of peoples opinions when talking about us. :'( Literally 1/4th of the competition (on BF at least) hate us and people let their feelings get involved when discussing things.
Poor me/us.
People used to hate Essendon because they were so good.
Now people pity them for not winning a final for a billion years and cheating.

You are correct, As I wouldn't be comparing these two to begin with Ridley certainly wouldn't be able to do a lot of what Weitering does. But Ridley actually had to play pretty man on footy this year as we had to piece together a makeshift defence, The acquisition of Kelly will free him up a tonne more and see him move further up the ground and those stats will grow even more.

And if we are discussing AFL coaches votes Parish (81) (9th) and Merrett (7th)(91) both scored in the top 20, Where Walsh (6th)(92) scored higher but didn’t have to compete as heavily with his own team mates.

Stats are great. But I’d swap Tom Mitchell for 10 other onballers.
Walsh clearly better. Also Walsh is young. Weird comparison as Parish a fair bit older. Ridley just LOL. He’s a good 3rd tall. Same reason Fletcher can’t compare with a real KP backman like Scarlett or Silvagni.

Yes im quite excited to see Kelly's addition to the bombers. Hes a bit of a plodder on his own but he plays a very team oriented game as he knows his limitations. Ideally he's what we'd like Plowman to have been for us but he just leaks far too many important goals.

Its not a popularity contest, I dont care how many people think Walsh had a better season then Parish, I want to know there reasoning. Walsh polled well in the brownlow and coaches votes but he had no team mates taking votes off him. He polled well in the players MVP as well but the players had him over Oliver and Petracca as well which seems absurd. Walsh is a gun and has the potential to be the best player in the AFL but I think people are overrating his season because of his youth and potential. When you look at all the numbers he just doesnt measure up to that top group of players.

Weitering would likely get more of the ball playing loose to catch up to Ridley in those stats but he would also lose what makes him impressive which is playing on the monster forwards and winning those contests. They dont play exactly the same role, at times Ridley played on Greene and Papley which you wouldnt expect Weitering to do, but both are exceptional in the role they play.

Parish is three years older and played almost twice as many games as Walsh.

If he wasn’t ahead of Walsh in those numbers at this point people would be lining up to say he was a disappointment for such a high pick.

Walsh looks the goods but he's had one AA season - I'm saying let him show consistency before crowning him the next Judd.

Weitering has been consistent but in 2021 couldn't crack the 6 best defenders in the league. A very good player no doubt but is he one of the best defenders in the game? Is he ahead of May, Lever, Stewart, Andrews, Aliir etc?
Most would have Weitering before any those players you listed. .

Esssendon had a lot more competition for coaches votes though. Parish got 81 votes vs 92 for Walsh, but Parish competed against Merrett(92 votes) and Stringer(45). Walsh's closest competitor was Weitering (39 votes). By the way, Cripps had 23 votes vs 27 for Peter Wright :)

As for Weitering vs Ridley, the former definitely had the better season (Ridley was excellent though). Weitering has made the AA squad an extra time, and both have won one B&F. Even if Weitering would win a poll 'in an absolute landslide' (KPPs tend to be valued higher) there isn't a huge gulf in quality between the two players at all. And you have to keep in mind that Ridley has only played 48 games in his career vs 115 for Weitering. That is a massive difference, and if you compared the two at a similar amount of games played, I think Ridley would win the comparison.
By the way, Ridley is a versatile player and played several games as a key defender last season. He isn't just an 'interceptor'/third tall anymore. However you are right that he did take a large percentage of kick-outs, which would of inflated his stats.

If he wasn’t ahead of Walsh in those numbers at this point people would be lining up to say he was a disappointment for such a high pick.

Red_man2008 said when comparing our players that 'essendon doesn't even come close' and that 'Merrett/Shiel/Parish 'might pale in comparison' compared to Walsh/Cripps/Cerra'. I think that's what Bombers supporters are taking issue with. I have no problem with people rating Walsh higher than Parish, even though it is very close at this stage.
Weitering is ahead of Ridley too, but in my opinion there isn't as large a gap as what people are claiming in this thread. And Ridley has played under 42% of the games that Weitering has. Ridley is a very good player for someone that has played under fifty games.

I said this yesterday, you can't compare Weitering and Ridley as players because they are different, but i will say they are equal on value they supply to their club.

And Parish has been around the system a lot longer than Walsh..
How do the stats match up comparing Walsh and Parish in their first 3 years.

Yeah I don't dispute this. I was responding to Strapping young lad who mentioned the age/experience difference between Walsh And Parish, but then gave no mention to the difference between Weitering and Ridley. I will say one thing about that though, most Essendon supporters think that Parish would of flourished earlier if they played him in the midfield more often:

But even then, he wouldn't have been as good as Walsh is at such a young age.

Both were top 10 players last year, only a moron would be disappointed with that. The conversation isnt about who was better at 21, its whos better right now. Noone would disagree that Walsh was better at the same age.

So why are we comparing Ridly and Weitering and their age difference and games played 😜
