Why do you hate Collingwood?

The mighty West Coast Eagles on the other hand have been the most successful club on field having competed in five grand finals and won three premierships, have missed the finals only six times in the past 22 years and are the only club never to have taken the wooden spoon.

When did the Crows win the wooden spoon? Or for that matter Port Adelaide.

And if we are going to talk about successful clubs - I believe the Crows have the best record when it comes to Grand Finals. Who else can boast a 100% winning record when it comes to the last Saturday in Sept. :p

A simple question, but the answers it evokes may not be simple. It's just always intriguing to hear from supporters of every club, every week 'we hate your mob', and to hear it with such passion and vigour means it ain't just a throw away line. Would just be interesting to hear. Hopefully it's not as basic as 'your fans are feral' - what makes us feral? Any experiences, or just going on popular opinion?

One for sides such as the Crows/Dockers/Eagles (though we have some recent finals history with the Eagles), if you hate us, why? It's not like we have any real history with you - how can you hate what you don't have much history with? Enlighten me.

Easy answer:
1. Because I attended games at Victoria Park and will never forget the lowlife species that inhabited that dump.
2. Eddie Maguire's one eyed 'if it's good for Collingwood that's all that matters' attitude.
3. Having the same colours as Port Adelaide who i grew up hating with a passion.
4. A club that wields a big stick with the AFL despite a complete and utter lack of success on the field, with one premiership in 50 years, despite having all the resources lacking in other clubs, especially prior to the salary cap being introduced.
5. Dale Thomas, Alan Didak and Anthony Rocca

Is that enough....;)

Yes but that is not sustained over 112 years is it.. when you still have the greatest win rate over a century, with the most games won, 14 flags and a slew of records including the most Hall of fame inductees, 4 flags in a row, more finals appearances than any other club and are genuinely recognized as the most famous and biggest football club in Australia come back and we'll talk..

But don't hold up a couple of decades like they are the last word in achievement or I'll pick two of Collingwoods decades and I can guarnatee you they will wipe the floor with WC's two decades

Can't compare eras that were prior to the salary cap and the draft. It just doesn't stack up. Results tell you that it is the clubs with the greatest money, resources and support that dominated the entire competition prior to these landmark changes. For much of the VFL era, the amateur leagues were paying higher salaries than the VFL teams. So in order to attract the best players, it often came down to who had the money or the jobs to offer. The big difference in that era was that the premierships were split between pretty much 4 clubs and their eras of dominance came down to the coaching brilliance of McHale, Smith, kennedy etc.

With apologies to Tarantino...

Col. Hans Landa:If a Collingwood supporter were to walk in here right now as I'm talking, would you treat it to a bottle of your delicious beer?

Perrier LaPadite: Probably not.

Col. Hans Landa: I didn't think so. You don't like them. You don't really know why you don't like them. All you know is you find them repulsive.

Not from what I recall, but I am surprised you didn't list the 1 point win, where Modra was on fire, but we fell agonisingly short. Although i must say on that day, between the '****ter' chants at Modra, there was actually some Collingwood people applauding his efforts.

Not my problem, I'm proud of our history, if we had 1 flag and 26 wooden spoons I wouldn't be proud, I'd be ashamed.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

Hard graft > bandwagon

Clubs are built on their history, ours is richer than most, so to use it as an argument against us is laughable.. sure some of it happened a long time ago.. so did the invention of the internal combustion engine.. but you know what.. I still get in my car every day and drive it ;)

we're talking steam engines

I'm not comparing.. I'm telling you our record in this league.. take it up with the AFL if you don't like it but as far as they are concerned the records for this league date back to 1897.. life didn't start just because a few interstaters entered our league.. are you going to say this era can't be compared to one in the future that allows free agency? Will it be a different league? What year did this league become National? 1987 when you entered? 1990 when the name change occured?

All leagues evolve but the records stand and are just as hard to win an any era.. but people will always think theirs is the hardest :p

Well it's easier to prove that the current comp. is harder. it's designed to be harder and that's why they did it. A sign of success in today's comp is to be able to rebuild without bottoming out, so that you maintain your following through to the successful times.

it's absolutely critical to be a power off the field, in order to get any small advantage that can't be taken away by equalising the comp. One area where Collingwood have excelled.

My original post was actually tongue in cheek, as I absolutely respect Collingwood, but those aspects i listed do irritate me in a small way. the only team I truly hate is Port Adelaide and that will be until my dying day.

Because, compared with all the other Clubs you do F**k all Travel and so have an enormous advantage.which isn't right.

1. The fans.

They feel like they are getting robbed if one team gets two or three legitimate free kicks in a row, they then start howling and hurling abuse like neanderthals.

They scream "ball" when a player is immediately wrapped up. Either they don't understand the rule, or think the can convince the umpire that it might be there.

I don't mind the fact they are feral bogans, it is more the way they barrack that shits me. Arrogant, like they always deserve a free kick in almost every contest, and they look to each other as if to get confirmation that a free kick should be there. The blind leading the blind.

2. The players:

Alan Didak, Dale Thomas, Brodie Holland, Anthony Rocca, Paul Medhurst, Brad Dick. They have so many hateable players

I hate you because you are Victorian, which is to say I don't hate you any more or less than Carlton, Essendon, Richmond etc, the only difference is you have only won 1 flag in 50 years so there is not much to be concerned about as say you would a Hawthorn who are averaging a flag every 3 years in the last 3 decades.

glad to help...

lol.

there is not much to be concerned about as say .

For an Adelaide supporter there is. You are concerned that in the most important matches, the CFC owns your club & this riles your supporter base almost as much as South Australians having an inferiority complex towards Victorians.
