I think we kissed finals goodbye last night (so roll into year 6 of no finals....). The ultra annoying thing is, we really should have at least another 3 wins (GWS, Collingwood and now GCS)..and potentially Richmond. 9-3, with North, Swans, Eagles x 2, GWS and GCS to come..would have finished top 4...

A very simplistic way of looking at it. We could very easily have dropped the Hawthorn and Brisbane games.

6-6 is about right.

I think the reason why we have this list of 'could've would've should've' games piling up is that we're not that good. Truly good teams don't keep losing games from winning positions.

We're a middling, inconsistent 8th to 10th type side. Anyone who thought we were "truly good" - as in, in contention - has been listening to too much Robbo and Stephen Rowe.

We’re a promising young side that, like so many sides before us, lacks maturity away from home. You’re right, we were never in contention. Not this year. We are very much like the 2015/2016 Crows sides. In the next 12 months we’re going to see an away win against a very good team that finally says, “we’ve arrived”. I’m anticipating it will be quite a fun ride for several years from that point.

Proviso: we improve the current 22 by 2-3 players (with a combination of free agency/player recruitment and the sudden rise of a Cook/Nankervis type.

We will win at least 11 games this year.

Eagles
North
Giants
Suns
Eagles

Please noone try to tell me we will lose at home to Giants or Suns. We have blown both out of the water in thr first half and whilst melted away in thr second half I don't see it happening at home.

Winnable games include:

Essendon (A) - they aren't that good but it could be another Suns game.
Sydney (H) - We play well at home,Swans are struggling. That's about it.
Port (H) - It's a showdown and it's our home game.

Certain losses:
Collingwood (A)
Melbourne (A)
Brisbane (A)

We win the 5 and jag 2 of the 3 winnable games we make finals. It's not beyond us. As long as we finish within a game 2 of the finals there is no reason 2024 can't be a big year.
Even though melbourne beat carlton they looked terrible. I think it's winnable.

If Port go deep in finals and we finish outside the 8, I'm guessing the club will start to worry as to how much it will impact membership/crowd numbers in 2024. Averaging 38k this year - it could drop to 35k in 24.

How Port goes doesn’t determine how I feel about going to Crows games. How the crows go does. No matter what happens this year, I’m excited about next year.

In 2015 and 16 we won finals, including one away. We are nothing close to that at all.

Do you really think the club gives two shits about where Port finish? I mean if they did, this bottom out strategy would have been avoided like the plague.

As I've said many times in this thread, will need 13 (or 12.5) wins to make finals with the 23 game season. We need 7 more wins from the last 11. We play all of the top 4 sides on their home ground (which is also our home ground for the Showdown).
Considering the 'bring your own vaseline' draw we got given, I think 7-4 from here is a bridge too far. But I'm pretty sure we won't be a bottom 8 side this year, which will be the first time since our GF in 2017.

I think you could compare this season a little to the 2015 one in terms of significant improvement. That was of course a bizarre year with the passing of Walsh and our B&F winner leaving the club.

2016 we were very good until the end. Could’ve won the premiership that year. The last game of the minor round was so costly.

I still hold hope we can make finals and win one this year and I expect we will next year.

That was the game we had to win. i have us finishing 9th now with 12 wins. massive improvement on last year but geez, we are going to blow it. 36 points up.... PATHETIC.
GWS
Pies
GC.. they ALL should have been wins.
We should win all our remaining home games except showdown I(they will smash us) and should win round 24 against WC
forget the other away games... we just cant play away.

Sydney, Gold Coast, North, West Coast and GWS games at home bring us to 11 wins. West Coast away in the final round would be 12. There's a modest chance that will be enough if we get some percentage boosters along the way. If we can throw in the Essendon game as well I think we will probably finish 8th at worst. Drop any of those home games and it's probably done.

Suspect we might be on the final round road trip needing to win to make the 8, which would be a good experience for the group.

Looks like we will finish around 9-11th which a lot of us predicted. Not making finals is probably a blessing in disguise as we will get a better pick and easier draw I hope next year. We have made some good gains but next year needs to be about doing it for longer and not allowing teams to kick 6 or 7 goals in a row. We also must improve our away form. I think our offseason in the trade is real important as we still have gaps that we need to trade in or draft.
