Winners and Losers of trade week

Winners-

St Kilda, absolutely nailed it. Got 5 from 5.

Dogs- got 2 kp players in and still kept 13

west coast- Paid what they needed to get their man. Sometimes it’s not a big deal to pay over to get what you need

Losers-

Carlton. Set out to pick up 3 small forwards, an area they identified as their weakest area. Ended up getting a 33 year old who would have been the last target out of the 3. As mentioned with West coast, sometimes paying over is needed.

Just had my first real look over the full movement of players across 18 clubs.
Conclusion is fairly underwhelming. Kelly really only big name to change clubs in my eyes and he certainly got a lot of picks to get done. Short term that is a win for Eagles but long term the cost will be felt.
I think my winners are Dogs, they addressed some needs to get some more key position players. Bruce and Keath are no A graders but they certainly add to Dogs depth in areas they needed it straight away.. Did not have to really dig into any major draft picks so they only clear winners to me of getting more than they gave up. Frustrating to not get Papley that I really wanted but he was contracted so was always not an easy target to extract from Swans that have every right to want to keep. But did not lose any picks or players I valued so more like a nil all draw. Seems most clubs similar or in Saints case, 5 all draw...lol

North downgrading an early draft pick to one in late 20's this draft is real WTF? for me in terms of goes totally against what they needed to do.
Overall a lot of players changed clubs but most clubs lists end up around same mark they started period in my opinion.
Eagles adding Tim Kelly is the short term impact that will be seen on field. Eagles have every reason to back themselves as a premiership contender in 2020.

Given what they intended, Carlton lost.

Brisbane's draft position is incredibly good too.

Won't suggest Saints or Dogs won as many teams looked great only for them to not live up to it.

We didn't downgrade an early draft pick to a pick in the late 20's.

We swapped first round draft picks with Melbourne and added an additional second and third round draft pick...

If you listen to our recruiting manager, it's pretty simple, he rates the top 30 extremely evenly this year and prefers next years first round.

We got trades that we needed to get done completed whilst keeping our most important forward.

An AA calibre key forward is better than any top end draft pick right now. What don't people get about this?!
You didn’t trade 2 contracted players? That is a win? So you win the trade period by not doing anything?

Not filling your inside mid hole is an issue.

Pick 8 downgraded to pick 26 position of this draft.
That is a serious downgrade in this coming draft.
Shook my head when seen that trade more than any other.

And???

Does the pick we get next not exist? It's more than likely a net positive result and we still picked up a kid who was pick #11 24 months ago for nothing, so we are still bringing a top young talent in.

Here, I will help you.

In reality that Carlton future second isn't going to be pick 21

No one knows future reality, thus I referenced a more actual past reality. Either way, it was a deal to walk away from. Martin just isn’t the type of player you release a top 10 pick for.

Would be a fitting result for Carlton to land Martin via the PSD. After the AFL randomly awarded GC such a draft bounty, they must’ve thought it was raining top 10 picks without realising they’re dealing with the one club who’s actually been worse than them in recent seasons. Maybe this can be the leg-up the AFL tried to withhold for you blokes alone.

Saints got sucked into quantity over quality. The paid huge overs for Hill. Ryder has been crap for a while now. Jones can run but kicks like James Manson. Butler spent the year in the VFL.

One decent player and too many average list cloggers.

Hawthorn continue to roll the dice on injured players. Scully was just fair. O'meara still has work to do to get near what they paid for him. Patton will get alot of money for a bloke with 90yo knees. Clarko is a genius but they cant win the flag in 2020.

The biggest losers of the week are clearly Carlton and Sydney. If you have good players who want to come to your club you find a way to get it done. Hawks, Cats, Pies all get their deals done. SOS and Harley sh1t the bed this week.

How can you be sure Martin only goes to PSD ?
Does he not have to enter the National Draft first and surely a club will pick him up in second round there ?

I'm not the one confused lol
You goto this National Draft and do not enter it to pick 26...
That is a downgrade. This is not rocket science.
Put the drugs away and clear your head.
So your argument is we downgraded 1x 1st rounder (#8) into 1x 1st (likely #3-#10), 1x 2nd (#27) & 1x 3rd (#50).

Sign me up for more downgrades in the future if that's the case.

Stoked with how we went considering we started with 5 & 59.
Sucks to lose Bruce but if King can live up to his potential he’ll be quickly forgotten.
Dogs did really well adding 2 players that fill their side really nicely, they should be right up there next year.

Glad you happy.
Keep in mind Port got Rockliff, Motlop, Watts, Thomas, Tremt McKenzie and probably one or two others I forgot a year or two back.
Still missed finals. Cohesion can be a challenge with so many new faces at once in same team.
Hope it goes well for Ratts though. He is a good guy and good coach. If anyone can make most of it, he will.

And that’s relevant how?

And yeh, still don’t expect us to make finals next year, but Hill, Jones and Howard are all in a good age bracket moving forward.

No, There is no argument.
The fact is you've given away pick 8 and downgraded to 26.
You can put head in sand if you want but that is your reality.

No, that is not fact.

So if a club trades their entire 2020 pick stock, for identical picks in 2019, they've somehow "upgraded" in your eyes.
