Wood wants to be traded

Now that we know he is on the move Collingwood should have a huge play at him i know his from SA but that doesnt mean he wants to go back home Lions have said a 1st round pick would need to be included StKilda and Adeliade are also very keen.

Jolly and Hille look like they wont leave Meeson and Hudson look like they have already been snatched up this might be our best and only chance this year.

We have said all season that a ruckman must be number one on the priority list. On that logic this trade is more important that the Judd one.

Get it done boys!

We might have a decent chance as St Kilda and Adelaide are unlikely to give up top 10 picks. We are more likely to give up our first rounder for him. Depends whether we really rate someone whom we believe will fall to that pick or not. If not might as well give it up.

The 1st rounder wont be enough so what do you think we will have to throw in it cant be lonie or toovey it has to be something decent maybe a 3way trade involving Sam Power.

The bad thing about this trade is that he still has 1 year to run on his contract. Puts Brisbane in power of the trade.

It's going top cost us, so if we get him it needs to turn out well.

Clubs chase Brisbane ruckman
Jake Niall | October 4, 2007

YOUNG Brisbane Lions ruckman Cameron Wood has attracted significant interest from a number of clubs, including St Kilda, Adelaide and Collingwood.

Wood is contracted to Brisbane for another 12 months, but the South Australian is clearly behind Jamie Charman and outstanding ruck prospect Matthew Leuenberger in the pecking order at Brisbane and is likely to request a trade.

Wood, who was the Lions' first pick in the 2004 draft (No. 18), is looming as one of three or four ruckmen who will figure prominently in trade discussions, with Adelaide pair John Meesen and Ben Hudson seeking new homes — Meesen wants to play for Melbourne, while Hudson is hoping to sign a three-year contract with the Western Bulldogs.

Geelong also could produce a surplus ruckman, given that Steven King and Mark Blake are confronting the season-long question of whether both can be accommodated.

Wood's manager, Justin Reid of Elite Sports Properties, last night confirmed that Wood wanted more opportunities to play.

"Cameron obviously wants more opportunity but he's currently under contract with the Brisbane Lions," Reid said.

"They've got four ruckmen and they're saying he's a required player, but that all could certainly change next week as well. So, you hear a lot of things at this time of year, and a lot of it comes to fruition probably next Thursday and Friday."

Brisbane would demand a first-round draft pick, at the least, in return for the 204-centimetre follower, who spent most of the season in the local competition, with Leuenberger — pick four in the 2006 draft and nominated as a future superstar by champion teammate Jonathan Brown — selected ahead of him in the latter stages of his first season.

  • Would love him but you would have to say Adelaide would be likely given he is from SA and the fact they would be desperate after losing Messon and Hudson....

1st & 3rd Round Pick -> Brisbane
Wood & 4th Round Pick -> Collingwood

Unless someone bids a second rounder for Barham, we get to use one of our 2 4th rounders on him as a F/S selection.

Then we pickup best available midfielder with our 2nd rounder.

Wood is still undersized, and like Fraser, does tend to get manhandled a bit at AFL level - needs to get straight down to the gym at the Lexus Centre!

seems to be a fair bit of hype surrounding him. i havent seen too much of him, but seems as though he hasnt set the afl alight. you think hes good enough to be our first ruck?? although he couldnt be much worse than guy

I want to make sure of getting Renton, so I'd only do that trade if we could also upgrade one of our 4th round picks to an early 3rd rounder through another player trade.

I'd rather we put up our first rounder and a player, but the difficulty is that we don't have any fringe players the Lions would be after. It might have to be a three-way trade.

A first rounder not enough? If they want more than our first rounder then they can forget it. Wood will be better than anything we have, but he won't be a superstar and still has the size of a Josh Fraser. I don't think any team would give up a top 10 pick for him, unless they are stupidly desperate. If they want more than pick 14 we might as well use that pick to get the best ruckman available in the draft.

One thing we can offer over Adelaide is guarranteed game time. Adelaide still have Biglands, Griffin & Maric, so who knows where he'll sit in that order?

At least at Collingwood he'll know he'll be in the starting 22! It could be a selling point if he's not homesick (which it doesn't sound like he is, just wants an opportunity).

I think people are overrating Wood a bit simply because he is what is available. We don't HAVE to trade for a ruckman, it would be nice, but not crucial. We can still pick a couple up in the draft.

If we get Wood though we've effectivley got a ruckman who has passed the development stages and is a good player, rather than taking a gamble on drafting an 18 year old who will take a couple/few years to develop.

Every ruckman available people are treating like the new Len Thompson.

Remember Cox and Ottens are the best in the business so Collingwood have to make sure the player traded is an upgrade on our current lot not just get a player for the sake of it.

im sure i have mentioned this but my penis can ruck better than richards and bryan, anyone we can get excluding meesen will be a upgrade

I genuinely rate Wood, and I think he's worth more than the #18 Brisbane paid for him in '04.

Warnock is in a similar mould, perhaps more mobile and would be fantastic for us. Neither of these two are rated simply due to availability, especially when both are in contract.

Meesen may be overrated, but would also be relatively cheap.

Blake is overrated IMHO.

Jolly is also overrated as an established ruckman 26 yo next season. Ditto Hudson at 29.
