Michael Rolfe was a gun Richmond player that Malthouse brought to the kennel in 1986, for the combined total of one game in the first round against Richmond. Banished never to play again after that game. Other hall of famers: John "Mumbles' Taylor, Ross Christenson, John Keast, John Burley who at the time was the so called best footballer from Gippsland, Les Bartlett, pure agony watching him play. Ron McGowan, Ron Fenton, the list goes on and on...............

Wouldn't say he was the worst, more like "made me swear more than anyone", but has anyone mentioned Peter Quill yet?

Played a fair bit too, albeit when we were staring at the guillotine.

But Nigel Kellett takes the cake for me . I know others will disagree, but i honestly thought he was ABSOLUTELY hopeless. I remember the game where he missed a shot from about 25 metres out against freo at Optus Oval and cost us the game :(
Here's a trivia question for you then. Who were the three Footscray players who finished in the top 10 of the 1992 Brownlow?

Obviously Scott Wynd won, but not many remember Tony Liberatore and Nigel Kellett were equal 8th! (with Jon Dorotich which might be more incredible than Nigel finishing there!)

Kellett the worst to ever finish 8th in the Brownlow then

Hope I have got you wrong , but are you saying Lally Bamblett ? and Ron McGowan for that matter.
Lally was a gun . Malthouse rated him as one of the most talented players he has coached.
Pretty sure McGowan kicked 8 against the pies at Footscray one day , not bad for half back flanker !

Personally, I think this entire thread is a disgrace. It dishonours the club, the players and us WB bigfooty posters.

It takes a world of effort to even make a list and any number of things can and do go wrong. So many players with limited ability develop into quality performers. There are so many who try and most will inevitably fail. Rather than gloating at players deficiencies, all the players who have got on a list and got games should celebrated.

It is part of the landscape for clubs to delist players and I am certain each one of them are devastated. Rehashing their deficiencies years later serves no good purpose.

Think anyone who posts negative comments about players shows there frustrated no talented twits :)

To play AFL-VFL football you need talent....

Tell that to James Mulligan :p

x2. Do not like this thread.

Les Bartlett and Les Bamblett are two completely different players, Bartlett played from the late 60's till the mid 70's while Bamblett played in the mid to late 80's. As for McGowan, he played in the late 60's as well, got in 92 games but only kicked 2 goals in that whole time, so may have kicked 8 in the reserves against Collingwood.

NO, I said LES BARTLETT who played for Footscray in the 70's, not the great LES BAMBLETT, and it was Don McKenzie who kicked the 8 goals against Collingwood in 1967, I remember that day as we moved house and all we could listen to was a transistor radio and the game was on 3KZ.

I'm sure the people who are coming out saying that there shouldn't be a thread like this, are the sames ones clamouring for Howard and Goodes to be delisted, bashing Cooney for his effort on the weekend etc.

There is no instance of a player that a true Bulldogs fan hates and doesn't want to succeed (except perhaps Josh Hill, and I think we all know why) but this thread is just a bit of fun and reliving some memories that don't get brought up often, as usually we like to bring up the glorious memories.

Uncool. There shouldn't be a thread like this about our own players. How ever bad a player they were at least they stepped up for the team, have some respect.

I agree with timtam - it's just good-natured, affectionate, nostalgic ribbing.

I also don't understand why it's OK to call players from other teams spuds, but one must be perfectly reverent to all those who happen to have played for our club. We shouldn't respect those who step up for other teams? They aren't worthy of respect if they happen to have been drafted to another club, possibly against their wills?

It's ridiculous. Of course we should show respect - for ALL players (unless they are proven flogs). But respect doesn't have to equal worship. There's far too much pious sanctimony going on, I reckon. (Not meaning to single out Toastman either. It's sprinkled throughout the thread.)

Sorry boys , got over excited when I thought someone would mention Lally in this thread.
Like everything else my eyes are on the Fritz !
Your right about McKenzie .

Yeah interesting but I'm on the side of the pious sanctimonians :p

I think the dog's kennel that your comment about being perfectly reverent is going to an extreme. That would mean no criticism at all would be allowed which I don't think anyone is suggesting. It is a fair way from minimal criticism to label any player as our 'worst ever'.

Never done any of these things so no idea how you can be sure about that.

Never said we should revere any of our old players but this thread clearly crosses the line and clearly does not match with your "good-natured, affectionate, nostalgic ribbing" claim. Do you really think any of the players listed would take it that way? Why don't you let them know that you think they are one of the worst players to have ever played for the Bulldogs next time you see them show up at WO and see whether they take it as good natured ribbing.

Ahhh yes - it would be quite a conversation killer if the comments on here were restricted to what you would say to the player's face

So you've never, ever, said something about someone that you wouldn't say to their face?

There's too much protection about football players sometimes, sometimes there's too much bashing, but sometimes too much protection.
