I dont know how excited I am about it.

Another 'versatile' midfielder... Id love to have just a few actual midfield specialists.

That and hes a Port fan.

Still, Good luck to him. Hopefully he pans out.

im with you southerntakeover...sounds like a versatoile player. i like his bio though. if he plays with speed and great at stoppages then im happy

As usual MR just about swallowed the microphone. I know its minor but there is something comforting about the way he really rushes his calls, just feels like he has got exactly what he wanted, looks professional, organised. As a supporter cant help but feel confident in what he's doing.

Tackling, contested marking and kicking.

Just as well we excell at those fields already. :(

has played two years of senior football at WWT, so hes already got experience at league and finals football

i think hes better than polec but polec has the x factor

Brodie Smith

I'll touch on the negatives early. He hasn't got the most sublime kick on him and he won't have the 'top speed' that some people want. Decision making needs some work.

Now onto the good stuff. This guy has a nose for the footy in deep. Second only to Prestia in emerging with the footy of the kids I saw with this year. Not only would Brodie get the ball, but he'd take one or two side-steps and escape the clutches of tackles to clear the ball.

As much as his DC testing says otherwise, I rate this kids first step, especially his sideways step. He's always on his toes and doesn't get caught back footed.

Whilst he played off the HBF for WWT, he was strictly a mid in the champs and flourished there. Just puts in 100% this kid, does the little things you want as a team mates, especially in the engine room.

While I touched on his kicking not being in the 'Heppell' range, it's solid. Can drill passes at times.

He reads the ball very well off hands and that adds to his inate ability to be a step ahead. He's very balanced with the footy and can clear the ball on either foot (thump kicks). He shows real intelligence with his handballs releasing teammates in right areas. He also finds a way to get his hands free in tackles (something Crows don't do overly well).

Good core strength for his ages and this helps his ability to break tackles. He may not rate his tackles and admidts they need work, but they're very solid for his slightness.

Closes very well on the chase. His agility is also something that is better than his DC indicates. Very courageous.

He shouldn't be too far off being in the squad.

Does not get brought to the ground.

That said, I'm not going to say that I wasn't slightly disappointed we didn't take Atley. Golden opportunity. But I'll take Matt's word on it.

I respect your opinion, Drum, so that write-up was GOLD.

Seems to me that we need a Brodie Smith in our midfield now Goody and Edwards are gone, and Roo is long gone.

Welcome Brodie. Glad to have another home grown star on board.

Good article on Brodie. This part fascinated me:

The good-natured ribbing in the gym resulted in Smith putting on seven kilograms to his wiry 77kg frame by the mid-point of this season. But a shoulder strain has since weakened the solid muscle-building Smith had under his belt.

For him to be able to put on 7kg in a season without even being at an AFL environment has got to be a good sign - put him in our weights rooms and he'll balloon up quick-smart!

Also interesting to read his family originated in Scotland. I can think of another former player of ours who has family roots in Scotland :D

That article calls him martin as well

But by the time Martin had finished putting his sublime skills on display he was not only awarded All-Australian selection, the 18-year-old was also named SA's most valuable player.

I hope people don't get too worried about this guy, to be honest he's one of the best mids in the draft, and just take a step back and think about this. With Danger (the mad bull) and now Smith, both 188cm and absolutely monsters at the stoppages. I can't wait to see them lining up in the centre square for years to come and with the burst of speed, lace out paces (Well I can dream) to Tippett, Walker and SMACK.

No complaints from me - I was hoping all along we'd get Smith. :thumbsu:

IMO he'll have a long and good career with the club - he's made of the right stuff and has great character and attitude.

As for being a Port Power fan, so was Thommo, who in fact hated the Crows before being traded to us.

I'll be delighted if he turns out to be another Thommo.

I am very good in the sack but I would still like to improve on it. Crikey, try and be a bit more positve.

I think he is a great get and will be a super player for the AFC.
