It’s the forwards where the problem is. The forward line is bottom 4 standard. Can anyone seriously argue otherwise?
Logue single-handedly kept us in the game today in Q3. Pretty much everyone else went missing. None of the forwards apart from Schultz played well. None of them.
Jye amiss has got to come into this side very quickly. He needs to play 10 or 15 games this season as we are at nothing long term with this batch of forwards as a unit.
Chill. Actually got a lot of shots on goal. Tabs wasn’t playing. Treacy had an interrupted last month of pre season.
Would like Amiss to develop strong for Peel and bulk up

Tabs is our highest scorer, without him we are down a Tall. Darcy can go forward when Lobb rucks.
Spine is weakened and guess what we play Banfield forward?
Forward line is lacking because we refuse to play players that are dangerous or
we go small.
Erasmus draft bio is exactly the same as Sturt’s.
We bombed it long without structure, too small, and it’s been like this for years.

As the only one here who watched Amiss yesterday and Sturt for that matter, neither played well or are ready. Sturt improved as the day went on, Amiss was on limited minutes and had a good third quarter.

Johnson out.

I don’t think this will happen but I would consider:
  • swap Erasmus for Banfield
  • swap Henry for Colyer
  • swap Meek for Darcy if Darcy is fit

I thought Brodie’s hands in tight were good and his tackling efforts were great.
I can’t say the same about Mundy - he looked a fair way off his best today

Backline mix seemed a little off/slow today.
Before Young’s last quarter I could have easily swapped him out for Walker. Did little to live up to his hype before 3qtr time

In: Darcy, decent goal kicking (I live in hope that one day this will happen)
Out: Meek

Assume Tabs and Fyfe not ready. Unlikely to be many other changes.

If we are serious about creating integrity with team selection then we should have quite a few changes next week - despite the win.

Fyfe and Darcy obviously come in if fit. Colyer and Walker should come in given players in the roles they play were under par. Erasmus and Crowden should be considerations as well given pre-season form.

Blakely probably unlucky despite dominating in the WAFL pre-season game because Brayshaw, Serong and Brodie were all ok. But anyone that is playing WAFL should be in the mix if they perform better than the players in their respective position. I suspect most are still a bit underdone but hopefully they are all bashing down the door over the next fortnight or so.

Thanks for acknowledging Blakely's effort.

Walters lead the small forwards in pressure acts was third for the team.

His pressure was the best it's been in a while I thought; however he definitely needs to get a bit more involved.

Change wise:
Banfield for Fyfe
Meek for Darcy

We played Meek and Darcy in the last game against St Kilda at the end of 2021. This weeks ruck opposition looks like Marshall and Hayes with Ryder seemingly still getting towards fitness in the VFL (from St Kilda board).

I thought Lobb was quite competitive with his ruck stints today.

If Fyfe can't play we need to pick someone else who can play midfield +forward because those are the areas we need bolstering.

Playing a forward line with 3 tall options at this stage seem to confined to converting a defender or playing 2 rucks and Lobb.

St Kilda's small forwards let them down on Friday night, but they'll still pick 2 or 3 - so someone like Walker must be a chance to slot into defence, and that maybe gives scope for someone like Cox to swing forward. Its kind of messy because they have King, Hayes/Marshall and Membry so they definitely have potency up there that needs to be covered, and we don't know how far away from AFL selection the selectors think Hamling is, given his time out of the game.

I don't think there'll be too many changes as we've come out of this game without injuries.

Darcy a definite in.

The other changes are really between this weeks travelling emergencies who didn't play: Walker, Colyer, Crowden, Erasmus and those who played for Peel in the WAFL scratchie (which at least had bona fide opposition)...and pending the availability of Fyfe.

JL is unlikely to make wholesale changes after the response from the team at the end of the game.

Colyer > Banfield (probably the only change)

Looks like there is rain forecast for next weekend, so they might want to give Fyfe & Darcy one more week of rest. I think JL was quoted saying that Henry will get a block of games on the wing at the start of the season to see how he goes.

It was ugly, very ugly but we won so I wouldn’t expect many changes.
Meek holds. Was great early on. More games into him the better!
So Darcy in for banfeild. And Fyfe in for Henry, if fit. Like others have said think he needs a spell in the WAFL.

For all the Lobb bashing he was super handy today. Good on him!
The knocks on Clark’s defense unwarrantable, had the clutch late game spoil and applied good ground pressure.

Keep Sonny in
Colyer for Henry
Banfield wasn’t that bad other than that pathetic miss
Hate to say even Lobb was ok today, just couldn’t kick straight.

The rest will naturally evolve with the inclusions off the injury list

I'll try to keep away from wholesale changes after a win, especially because in the first half we looked a million bucks. I'm also assuming none of Fyfe, Taberner or Darcy are ready next week considering JLo's comments

In: Colyer, Out: Walters - I'm sorry everyone but I'm done with Son-son, we simply cannot have someone who hits the deck so much in the forward line. I don't even know if it's milking the free kick anymore or an inner ear problem effecting his friggin balance. So many times in that third and fourth quarter we needed a contest win or break even and he just let's the defenders run away with it. Colyer does his job every week, kicks clutch goals, pressures, and should never have been dropped.

In: Blakely, Out: Banfield - For the life of me I don't see what Banfield offers an AFL side, let alone one aiming for finals. A WAFL player in every sense of the word. I know it's not like for like but it sounded like Blakely played his guts out and at the very least he adds a decent sized body to the midfield rotations.

Walking the tightrope:

Acres and Tucker - two guys who should shining Chapman's shoes all week. If we lost I'd say get rid of these guys. I don't know how they can think at their stages of their career that they can just keep turning in half a match worth of productivity.

Henry and Treacy should both stay in for sure.

In: Darcy/Amiss, Fyfe
Out: Lobb, Walters

This the type of win that, if handled right, can actually galvanise the side for the year ahead. You don't do that by swinging the axe completely.

But I think they have to send Sonny a message that going missing in that regard is simply not acceptable.
Lobb out? What game did you watch?

out
meek (only because Darcy in)
Banfield
henry (needs to get more the 8 on a wing)

in
darcy
Fyfe (if fit if not) Erasmus
aish

id be tempted to get colyer and hamling in too.

maybe hamling for Tracey and cox forward? Tracey isn’t quite ready yet

Darcy for Meek - not that Meek was bad, Darcy is just better and Lobb was good.
Colyer swap for Henry possibly, wing isn't an easy position to play, so perhaps he gets another chance.
If Fyfe is fit then probably in for Banfield, though he was alright in the first two quarters.
If Tabs is ready, probably comes in for Treacy, mostly because Tabs at his best is better at the moment.

Walter's holds his spot in my opinion - his effort was there all day, just got missed coming through the middle in the chains of possession - he is much better if he gets some midfield time as he gets some level of freedom - midfielders don't defend one on one - should have been injected into the midfield when we were getting hammered in the 3rd Quarter.

Darcy for Meek - As someone else said above, Meek was good but Darcy is just better.
Fyfe for Banfield - Despite his miss, Banfied was OK yesterday but Fyfe.

Walters put on notice by the coach.

Assume Tabs is out with a hammy meaning 2 games missed.
