Isn't that just good depth when that happens? Meek played well but he'll be out this week if Darcy is fit.
Also you can turn the argument around, if a guy at Peel is doing everything asked and banging the door down, isn't it setting a team standard to reward that?
I mean I agree that I would be dropping neither, but only because there were others that were worse
That is indeed good depth. I question whether we are using that depth well.

To me we are using it to cover for injuries which is fine but limited.

In the meantime we have a surplus of decent hbf-ers playing at the lower level because we are unwilling to use some of that depth on the wings or midfield.

In addition we persist in using the best 22s as a development opportunity rather than playing the actual best 22. My expectation is Henry becomes a better player than Aish, Colyer or even Blakeley, but playing him almost cost us that game.

As the only one here who watched Amiss yesterday and Sturt for that matter, neither played well or are ready. Sturt improved as the day went on, Amiss was on limited minutes and had a good third quarter.
Not suggesting that Sturt or Amiss come in next week.
But if we get to round 7 or 8 and Banfield is still keeping Sturt and Amiss out of the side on form (especially Sturt) then we have a problem.
There is simply no way on earth that Banfield can be part of a premiership winning forward line.
Sturt and Amiss are the flag winning future

Have we become less flexible with what positions our players are in?

in the past we would have players like Cerra and Aish who would move between hbf and wing. Midfielders resting on the flanks.

Which of the forwards have a genuine capacity to play other roles? Lobb does.Switkowski. But the rest seemed more fixed in position.

Really enjoyed the run from defense. In the pre-season we saw the hbf-er group pushing right up and locking the ball into the forward line. Young and Chapman especially.
I reckon there's a bit of this.

We see the Tigers 'play midfielder skillset players everywhere'. And Goodwin at Dees has said he's happy to play mids everywhere (why he picked up Dunstan, not just injury depth).

Not saying we should follow what other clubs do, but there has to be some merit to it, it's a versatile skillset.

Unpopular opinion, but aside from that amazing fist, Chapman was a weak link in the backline. Walker may have provided more rebound and better control of a small forward. Who absolutely tore us up.

Chapman out : Walker in.

I actually wouldn’t make that change though, I’d add Walker and keep Chapman. Losing someone like Tucker, Henry, Walters instead.

Is this a better balanced as well as stronger side from the weekend

Chapman Pearce Logue
Young Ryan Clark
Aish Serong Tucker
Walters Treacy Schultz
Switta Lobb Erasmus

Darcy AB Brodie

Colyer Mundy Acres Walker

To be fair to Cox, if we are being honest, on performance, it should be Chapman out for Walker but that isnt going to happen (and I dont want it to). Cox was decent for the most part, certainly not a "must be dropped" level of performance.

I would very much like to put Fyfe in for Acres but it seems like we are being fed some bullshit from the club on his injury front to be honest.

D-day tomorrow with an injury report that will decide a few things

What if Banfield playing his role is what lead to Adelaide using poor kicks out of defense?
From what I saw, it was nothing I wouldnt expect from anyone else. They can play that role and contribute something more meaningful at the same time

This is what used to irk me in the Ross Lyon era.

We had all these role players who were there to pressure and negate ect yet Hawthorn just had skilled players to take these roles who could also hurt you offensively.

Need to be getting skilled players into the 22 and improving their defensive game, not playing battlers and trying to improve them offensively

The only reason we should be playing Banners is to rotate him through the mid to tag players and rest our mids forward. We cannot under any circumstance keep playing Walters, Henry and Banners in the same team. Henry should stay for now and build experience at the top level but his trajectory is that of SPS at the moment.

Banners is depth. It's the same as De Boer at GWS, the coaches get seduced by their fitness, athleticism and dedication.
I want Erasmus in for him asap. If you add Colyer for Walters we instantly become a better team but we can't drop a guy who played well for us 3 years ago.

(Not going to happen but) If you've got Cox going out of the backline would you choose him or Treacy up forward?

Fair question, I've always really rated Cox up front where he doesnt have to be as accountable. I'd choose Cox, but like you said, not going to happen

I would go Cox and have been on that bandwagon for nearly 5 years at this point, but will only believe him playing forward when we see it

Saints will have a talk forward line with Hayes and king, and to lesser extent wood. We will need Cox or Hambling.

Otherwise I like it..

Walters on his last chance. This week I would be playing crowden ahead of him assuming others still unavailable and JL being conservative with Razz

If adding an "e" to Clark is worth a ban then surely this is as well.
