How totally depressing watching what Voss has managed to achieve at the Blues in 1 preseason compared to 10 years of Ken.

Their centre clearance work and structures is absolutely top notch.

Their ball movement from defence is excellent with fast and open movement into the forward line.

Their key forwards are given space to move and lead at the ball carrier.

The complete opposite of our game plan and exactly what we have been asking for for years.

It’s just amazing that every single other club managed to have an open and free forward line and yet that has been impossible for us to achieve in a decade.
To be fair Ken was like that early.

The opposition coaches just put an extra man behind the ball for us to rush at and he had no plan B.

Time will tell if Voss does.

And yet Voss was universally panned & derided by most here on Bigfooty!

Is this supposed to be some weird "got ya!"? because all it's doing is justifying how bad hinkley is and how right we are.

We don't lead at the ball carrier because our entire gameplan is based around stopping our opponents from hitting us on the rebound. We set up our forward entries to stop intercept marks and rebounding, not to score. Scoring, we feel, is a byproduct of the ball being in our forward 50. That's been our plan since 2017 at least, and we've tried differing versions of it but the underlying strategy is the same. That's almost certainly why Bassett is our forwards coach and not, you know, someone who understands forwardline strategy and likes goals being scored.

We played the flood and slingshot in 2014, frightened the crap out of teams who then ended up playing +2 in defence against us for a couple of years to grind us out, and then we kicked the ball directly down the throat of opposition intercept markers so often that it broke something in Hinkley and Bassett's brains and now our 1st and only plan is to prevent the rebound.

Given that, we're actually pretty good at doing that. Our press is excellent and we intercept mark very, very well in general. Our defenders are good at playing in a team defence unit and they're all pretty good at winning 1 on 1 contests in general.

But it really doesn't allow our forwards to be successful, talls especially. Charlie Dixon might have been one of the best key forwards in the league over the past 5 years in a team that made space for him. The only reason it's worked at all is because we've had some genius small forwards who can create their own opportunities and finish them.

Tibbs gunning for Janus’ mantle of deliberately obtuse failure justification.

Voss becoming the messiah after 1 match & a 3 screen text-in from the couch is slightly perplexing.

Yeah, he’s clearly got massive cache with today’s players as his personal record speaks for itself — would be a huge boost on the training ground hearing him praise you for something while you’re busting a gut during a 38 degree January training session, and all that.

But, I’m keen to know a bit more about the guys around him. For starters, he has Andrew Russell as fitness coach. Massive advantage.

Who are his line coaches? Maybe this is his gameplan? They certainly look more expressive than old faithful and his catenaccio sidekick.

To have McKay in your forward line. Gun.
I know you have to be near the bottom of the ladder to snag McKay type talent but sooner or later we need to invest in quality talls in the draft. Was Marshall the last first rounder we have taken in the draft? (was Lobbe the one before that!!!)
