Well, definitely not the AFL.com.au article. Darcy Cameron only earned 5 coaches votes for about 5 minutes before they realised they'd f’ed up by allocating it to the wrong Cameron and fixed it. Jeremy Cameron scored the perfect 10.
Not sure we can blame the AFL article for that. Those votes were on the coaches association website originally.

how many of those games was as a midfielder? Not many, I wouldn't think. How many under McRae?
I think everyone gets a clean slate under these new coaches.

Yes, that’s a fair point. New coaches, clean slate. Cal will probably get picked and for the good of the team, I hope he has a great game.

But I’d still prefer we picked Ash Johnston to replace the scoring power lost by suspension of DeGoey.

Yeah, Ash definitely a contender, and just get more midfield time to elliott and others. Can move the magnets around. We'll see tomorrow what they decide is best.

Either way, I won't be disappointed which way they go.

So just confirming Sidebum is miraculously okay after looking like he'd torn every muscle in both legs clean off the bone?

Biggest recovery since Lazarus

It was said on the night that it was just cramp, and in the injury report. Not sure why you’re still questioning it?

Macrae played well in the VFL game, so could be considered, but I think Cal is more likely. Cal's best position is inside mid where his suspect disposal won't be as much of an issue.

Cal has great hands and elusiveness. He just can't kick over a jam tin. If he bangs down the door as an inside mid in the VFL, then he deserves a crack at AFL level.

I agree - he should be under packs dishing out handballs.

I do not think he has the strength to win disposal at the bottom of the pack personally. His physical limitations for that role are less severe than his skill limitations in any other role, but they still deserve acknowledgment.

Been wondering if we’d go for the extra tall against WCE like previously. I know we have a different coaching group but the extra tall has generally done all right for us against them. I’m nervous about their backline, we need to out mark or at least break even against McGovern and Barras who I think is returning this week along with 12 others.
Apparently, 5 are returning this week , with Barras amongst them , those 12 others are over the next 3 weeks

Sitting on the fence re: c Brown

One the one hand we need to reward VFL form… and I’m curious as to how well he’ll fare in McRae midfield, under a more contested game plan

On the other hand every week C brown will shank a kick over the targets head going inside 50…

If he can win 20 touches, 4 clearances and be instructed to handball mostly to the passing and overlapping players… that would be worthwhile

But even so, long term his inadequate kicking will likely see him supplanted on the list by someone who can win ball AND deliver well (enough) by foot…

that being said I remember when adams used to do the same, then he tidied up his kicking/improved his decision making

🤷‍♂️

If Cal Brown gets selected and shanks a kick going inside 50 we can brush it off as playing "chaos football" 👌

I think everyone gets a clean slate under these new coaches.
A new coach is not going to give Cal any new skills which he is pretty much substandard in all , won’t improve his kicking , spatial awareness , lack of sticking a tackle , breaking a tackle , been clean with his hands , not effective offensively , move on , he is a mid whose skill set is best suited for suburban football .

Callum Brown already has a really high handball to kick ratio. If he goes any higher I don't think it's good for the team or Callum who will become too predictable.

I think he could play the role physically, as his agility in traffic is off the charts which could make up for the size - for me the real issue is his decision making and composure - he finds space and then panic handballs to the first black and white jumper he sees. He should and will get another chance soon. I hope he goes well - not too confident though.
