I’ll admit it worries me that he just keeps on going with it - whilst he’s a campaigner he is also an experienced journo …. there’s no way he is constantly bringing this up based on zero evidence and on pure speculation. So there simply has to be something in the story. I don’t see how it possibly gets done, but it doesn’t change the fact Dusty might ask for a trade …. as Lobb did last year, Neale did last year etc…. neither of which happened.

There wasn’t a lot in Mclures comments other than a hunch , no meat on the bones on who could be interested , how a deal could be done ,,, if anyone thinks he’d drop 800k a year to play elsewhere , they’re a fw , there I said it

You reckon? Caddy is gone, Edwards and Lambert will be gone. If Jack and Cotchin do play on it'll be for a lot less. That's probably 2 mill free'd up there.
Bit of that'll get sucked up by Lunch. Heavily backended if im not mistaken.

It’s not news to the club that these guys are at the end. These retirements would free up very little.

That money would have been factored in for other players ages ago.

Yeah I'm not sure they'd have banked on losing Caddy, Lambert and Edwards this year though. Still a fair chance Cotchin retires too I reckon. Salary caps about to go up too...

Might also have another 1.3mill to spare on top of all that :(

Not too sure how much they would free up but Caddy would have been on around $450k as he was part of our best 22 when he extended his last contract
Edwards and Lambo would have been on similar i would suggest if not slightly more.

Would have to be around $1.2-$1.4 with the 3 players off the list

It mentions it in this line

“If Ablett does again seek a trade, the expectation from Geelong is that he would have to take a significant pay cut”

It matters who is asking for the trade, if it’s the club forcing a player out like Collingwood and Treloar the club needs to make up the shortfall to ensure he is paid the same amount, but if it’s the player breaking the contract they can choose to forgo the money they were contracted for

Same if a player chooses to retire before the contracted time is up
In the story it talks about Ablett being on $800k, if that was the final year of his deal, then when he got traded to the Cats, they would still have to pay him the $800k, but instead of doing so in the one year they give him a 2-3 year deal and pay it across those years instead of the one.
Yes they are but not if the player wants to break that contract.
by changing the length thats effectively rewritting the contract anyway

2 x 1.3 = 2,6
3 x 900 = 2.7

simple
I'm pretty sure that it's a requirement for the player to be paid the same amount regardless of whether it is them or their club that wants to break the contract, given that players would have entered into other financial agreements based on them receiving X amount over the course of their contract. It can also work the other way where a club that is well under the cap, but has upcoming increases to younger players can heavily front load an older players first year or 2 to then pay them less money when younger players increases kick in.

If that is the actual case then whats to stop say Richmond from refusing to trade him ?
If there is no benefit and costing the club it would be a hindrance on the players ability to move to his desired club.

There has to be mechanisms in place for the player to terminate his contract without the club being r*ped

Will be interesting could see it being a bidding war, never been huge on Taranto however their is no doubt he is a very good player.
If the club thinks he is what we need though i'll back them in.
Think If Dusty goes we’ll 100% get Taranto with the cap opening up

But if we can get Taranto and keep Dusty it’ll be even better 👍🏻

Caddy was out of contract this year. He was getting no money next year. Nothing gets freed up. His wage is already going to someone else.

He was never playing next year.

His money is still in the 2022 cap , So he is still getting paid until october 31
exactly the same as edwards , Lambert and maybe Cotchin

Thanks mate for the kind words.

Mike Sheahan to Daisy and Shaw says the old media game was to get good sources, then fact check out the story as journalist before the article runs. Best story wins.

The new game is nothing to do with truth but with time. Speculate and put it out there, just be the first. Be in it for the clicks. Mike wont play this game.

"Scoop" or "Pumpkin head" is as good at the new game as anyone. He gets all poopy pants when he gets called to account, but is smart enough to know that to survive you need click bait. that Pumpkin Head, he's got a bathtub full prawn heads that he'll throw into the ring on any given day just to best Chins Brown or Wreck it Ralph.

It's probably contract negotiation time for the click bait warriors.

So far with Sam Mclure as our list manager we are losing Dusty and getting Tim Taranto
🤷‍♂️

Anyone know anything about this Steve bloke?

There were a lot of posters pumping up McStay's tyres about a month ago, (I always figured he was sh1t as he averages 0.5 goals against the Tiges) so thought i'd take another look at him seeing he's "playing his arse off for his final big contract!"

-In his last 3 games he has gone goal less.
-In 2022 he has kicked 14 goals in 13 games (1.07 avg) 9 goal assists (0.7 avg)
And this spud is supposed to be worth 5 years @ $600k LMAO let Collingwood have him.
Also he's on the end of some great delivery as their midfield is far superior to ours.
Just for some context around his average goals. Noah Balta has kicked 11 goals this season in his 11 games. Balta has broken down in 2 games and played more than 60% of the season down back yet majority around here call Balta up forward a bust. Fu@k3n shits me how overpaid some big blokes in AFL are. God i hope the Pies sign him. Looks like they've learnt nothing from the last few years.

Speaking of the Pies "IF" Dusty were to leave I wouldn't be upset if we took degooey for 2 years @ $550k with the strictest behavious clauses ever written.
