GWS and Kingsley asked for Ralphsmith instead of Soldo and Richmond declined very quickly.
shouldve straight swapped ralph smith for hopper and keep our ff and 31 and soldo they wouldve done it

Interesting how quickly we knocked back the idea of trading Ralphsmith. Club must rate him highly.

Personally, I still feel he has a lot of holes in his game and think our draftees from last year will start to overtake him next year.
cant kick and is soft as butter wouldve moved him on for hopper straight swap no other picks

Essendon will
I think Essendon's rep for being difficult to deal with would work against them with Graham.

He was spooked away from Port because he didn't think they could get his deal done along with JHF. Dodo struggles to get a deal done at the best of times.

I think all of Saints, Essendon, North and Hawthorn would look at him. He's a great option for a rebuilding club because he's a strong body who works hard and bring standards from a successful club with his leadership.
I just don't see north being at all appealling and hawthorn seem to be prioritising more damaging and higher upside mids

Why did they hyphenate Ralphsmith's name on the news headline haha...

Anyway, if we could get Crouch for nothing I'd still do it. I know people's opinion, so no need to shoot it down too hard.

Let's look at our 2023 team, with the mindset that we think we're contending for the flag.

Version 1

Grimes Tarrant Broad
Vlastuin Balta Baker
McIntosh Cotchin Pickett
Martin Riewoldt Bolton
Cumberland Lynch MRJ
Nankervis Prestia Taranto
Miller Rioli Graham Hopper

Version 2 (with Cotchin injured or too slow, Prestia injured as often is)

Grimes Tarrant Broad
Vlastuin Balta Baker
McIntosh Ross Pickett
Martin Riewoldt Bolton
Cumberland Lynch MRJ
Nankervis Short Taranto
Miller Rioli Graham Hopper

The version 2 scenario will likely crop up more often than we'd like, and that's not considering any other injuries we may get.

If version 3 had Crouch (a guy capable of 35 touches at AFL level) rather than Ross or Short, then on paper that side is looking a lot better.

I'd do it if it costs us nothing, the midfield will be amazing.
If you think we are trading inn Hopper to sit on the bench you are kidding yourself. He is a starting mid in our side and I'll have him every day of the week ahead of Crouch. Its not even close.

Expect Cotchin to possibly get more outside ball now most of the grunt work is going to be done by others. Martin also, when he goes through the middle.

You've also forgotten Sonsie.

Once Hopper signs we are stacked in the midfield. Crouch wouldnt get a game.

It would be money that would draw Graham out of Richmond. He's never going to get the big $$ with us with the players ahead of him. Will always just be a role player.

Agree. Wouldn't even be surprised to see another Melbourne club make a play for him.

We are at that point I think - especially with so many complex deals yet to go through - that it’s going to be extremely hard to facilitate a trade for anyone that nominates a team now.

Too many higher priorities and these things take are likely to take a while to work through.

Not saying it won’t or can’t happen; but it’s way more unlikely than likely now I think.

He is exactly what Essendon should be looking for.
Hard working, tough, two way runner with strong leadership qualities. All the answers to the questions that were asked of Essendon this year,
Hell, He could be captain of the place in 2 years.

They should be banging his door down.

****en campaigners just made me wade thru 12 pages of utter trash 🤬🤬

And yes we are getting bent over in hopper trade.. wtf are we doing?

The only explanation I can see is that GWS know our future first rounder is going to be pick #18
We are winning the flag campaigners!

Hugo and F1 for Hopper and a pick swap. Where do I sign
no need for future first

straight swap

they want a 20 year old player they think will have a long career vs an injury prone player that will be 26 before a ball is bounced

They want future first, 31 and Hugo (perhaps soldo no longer in the frame). No way ill do that, Hugo is part of our future.

Anyways, other media are saying different to mitch cleary that the deal is pretty much done, future first, 31 and Soldo.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Think of Dunkley, Taranto and Hopper at RFC for 2023
public GIF

Plus over paying now may come with greater reward later on.

We’ve built a reputation as a team easy to deal with over the last few years, there’s a long game in play there.

We’re going to want something big at some stage.

Hopper and Taranto not big enough for you?

Imagine being a scout or recruiter this year at RFC. A year or 2s research and work wasted cause we got no picks.

You do realise we use all this data and add to it based on AFL form to look at who to target in future trades.

Not to mention the data is still valuable for understanding what type of player is likely to be successful for future drafts.

Yeah clubs are lining to trade with the weakest team in trade deals in the comp. We give away the farm for a bag of magic beans
Draft picks are the magic beans. We exchanged our beans for two prime bulls. Farm's in great shape.
