GWS got lots of talent through, they just couldn't hold on to them. Carlton got more right with their high picks than anyone at the Saints has done for years. Dow was their only real bomb out high pick under him. Their top ups were an issue, they kept trying to fast track by bringing in players like us but managed to nail their first rounders to off set it. They were further down the ladder for a lot of it though.
I meant more his Carlton strategy of going after giants players who weren’t any good. Also his 2014 draft was Espescially shocking

He started 2015 I think.

I know SOS recruited a lot of GWS crap but if he’s the one that drafted Carlton’s current core which should result in a flag for them one day I’d be pretty happy with that. And if I’m being honest as long as it’s not Gallagher anymore I’ll be happy.

Wow Harves coming back also? That's surprising as I thought he would stick around at Hawthorn with Mitchell for a while after only joining last year.

Has mainly been a midfield coach in the past, I wonder if he'll take up a senior assistant role supporting RTB and leave Lenny in the mids, or whether there will be a shake up of the line coaches.
Where is this coming from?

I doubt he would have only signed on for one year at Hawthorn and he is senior assistant there

Me either but he did recruit McKay, Charlie Curnow, Walsh etc. His biggest stuff ups were bringing over the GWS top ups. He's kind of the opposite to Trout and Libba, they could find loose change down the back of the couch, SOS got the top end players spot on. It takes about 5 years before you see the good or damage a recruiter has done and his legacy is probably what made Carlton jump back up. Trout's guys are mostly gone.
He also drafted Dow and SPS woth 3 and 6

That was there only rea stand out draft, albeit a very good one

There are other familiar RTB cast mates who are probably getting a look in.

Wouldn’t blow your loads all over SOS just yet 😂

I don't think anyone is blowing loads. More blowing chunks.

Petrevski-Seaton should have been gun. People said he was the most talented player ever out of WA in his draft year. He reckons that he's a mid played out of position but for what ever reason he never gets consistency. He's had games where you think he's arrived but goes back to ordinary a week later.

Dow is a bit of a Dunstan, he's pushed to the fringe because his disposal is below average and they have some absolute stars who use the ball better and have better spread. He probably gets games at a club with less inside talent though.

I reckon Bokehorst and Stocker look like their worst stuff ups. Lots of that GWS filler were shit too. Short cutting has been the downfall of clubs like Essendon and St Kilda too. If you don't do the heavy lifting at the draft first you make faster a very slow exercise.

It's mildly interesting that no-one's been able to get a quote out of Rooey about the return of RTB. I know he's overseas but I would have thought someone would have shot him a text and got him on the phone or something?
I agree with this and have no idea what to make of it.

Riewoldt was one of the lone voices in the media criticising our Ratten extension (he said it was negligent not to first sound out Clarkson) and is one of Ross's closest and most vocal proteges.

It's always difficult to separate who does what but if SOS replaces Gags then I assume Toce remains as National Recruiting Manager.

So;

SOS looks after the entire list strategy (future planning, trading, free agents, etc)- Gags' role.

Toce (& his team) decide which names get called out at the National & Rookie Drafts.

Sometimes blokes get the credit (or the heat) for decisions that were outside their specific duties. SOS traded horribly when list manager at Carlton, blowing multiple early picks on GWS rejects... but Shane Rogers, Paul Brodie and now Nick Austin were the guys who made calls on who was drafted.
