I think Derek is open to trading 16 or 27 into 2023 if the players he rates highly are gone by then. Said he has 4 or 5 in that first pick bracket, which includes Ryan… whilst also mentioning Weddle and Cowan
I'm encouraged with him name checking Weddle and Cowan, both look more appealing than Ryan on my limited viewing.

You’d assume they’re 3 of the 5 he likes, but was cryptic by saying they’re all in a HBF group around the 15 - 20 range. but still wonder if he’s avoiding mentioning a player like Hayes for v good reason.

Interestingly, he also said that there is interest ahead of us in Ryan, so it’s pretty hard to pick him if he’s already gone. I’d be staggered if Ryan is gone by our pick, unless Adelaide clubs are keen to trade for picks 14 or 15 specifically for him.
Melbourne is reportedly interested in Ryan and Adelaide may trade futures to get back in 22 for Ryan or Barnett.

A rebounding HBF like Cowen or Ryan makes sense for Melbourne if they think they are in the flag window.
A KPF will take time to develop.
Melbourne lost Hunt to WCE, Hibberd is getting on in years, Bowey has stepped up but you would think that they need to add some run and carry.

Why not , it's always worked in the past for him:rolleyes:. I suppose you don't look as bad if you don't take a KPP and he doesn't make it as compared to taking a flanker who would be just another player on the scrap heap. We can only hope that the rest of the team have some input
How do you sustain “There were four better prospects available, but ….”

Hine sounded pretty keen to get rid of 16. Mentioned a top group of 12 or so, but then later alluded to things evening up around pick 15 into the 20s.
So your assertion is, he is keen to remove a pick ‘around 15 into the 20s’ to get picks in the 30s and 40s?? Even Baldrick’s plans weren’t that cunning!

If anyone can pull off being both a c*n* and a c*c*head then it's Dodoro.

Mackie a contender for the crown also.

Don’t like looking at SA U18s stats. Not as strong as Vic. Wasn’t poulter regularly racking up 30 poss games there…
Can’t believe people are tossing up between Ryan and Clarke for a first round pick. First round ffs. I’d even roll the dice on George at pick 1 before those two..

Hardly worth getting frustrated over

Once the top 8-10 are gone there is probably bugger all between the next 10-15 in terms of talent

The point that was being made… take a punt… bring in some X factor.

If it’s George at 16 so be it

Not a skinny KPD or a pedestrian mid who’s never going to get a game behind 3-4 others

Yep, that was my point RE my last post; he went from saying it was proving impossible to trade pick 16 up (especially without our F2&F3) and then went on to say 16 was essentially on the table... everything is on the table, pending offers.
Your musing definitely had merit. If we weren’t fussed, and GWS were, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that your proposal could benefit both clubs.

manicpie you will never take over Dekka's job with that.

Not one skinny outside HBF in the first round.

Would be great if Hine could trade out pick 16 for a future first round from Melbourne. Doesn't seem like there's much of a gap between 16 and 25 so much prefer having 2 first rounders next year and 25 as our first pick this year.

Take 25, 27, 51 into the draft and pick up something like Barnett, Ryan, Lemmey.

Hine was asked about trading 16 into the top 10 or thereabouts and he more or less said it had proven impossible, with only some clubs having the currency to do so, i.e. Melbourne.

Surprisingly they didn't ask him about the potential of trading it backwards, because his answer IMO (and I could be reading too much into it) left it as an option.

What about 16, 25 and 27 to GWS for 18, 19 and 31...

(unless a genuine slider is sitting there at 16)

Edit: yes, I know the picks will have slid back by then

That would be an interesting trade.

I’d probably consider it as well.

Yep, don’t hate that.

Wouldn't be surprised all the talk about Ryan and Clark is to prepare us for trading Pick 16 out - and the mantra will be that in an even draft, we traded into the 2023 Draft and we still got our targets.
