This. But is this a question of personal? It seems we're still lacking a bit of run out of defence. Would Williams, Boyd, Cottrell would make a difference? Or is it both run and tactics?

We lack run all over the park at the moment, but it's a bit of both
Agree with the first two sentences.

On the young kids - we should be playing for the here and now. Cowan I can somewhat understand but L'OB should be ahead of Hollands in terms of output for the team right now.

Hollands is more contested and versatile, but you can still have both at the moment considering our outs
I would be surprised if they don't, as cutting the supply to Charlie/Harry would seem the logical option, with Walsh & Hewitt, containing Cripps would seem a high priority.
It worked pretty well for them in our last meeting with them.
That would be the Cats theory
the steeplechaser will relief ruck (probs) then run with Cripps... or at least that's probably the plan.
Perfect matchup, but may not get the chance depending on what we do in the forward 50

I doubt they will have the opportunity to hard tag Cripps with their preferred matchup
Expecting O’Connor to go to Crippa (has done quite well before). Blicavs will be required elsewhere as a preference for them. It is a 50/50 game, unfortunately our chances depend on a couple of “stars” stepping up. Will fall to our leaders to have big games. Cripps in the guts, I expect big ones from Chugga and Cez too, the twin towers should account for the defence if our entries are half decent. Weiters matches up really well on Hawkins, who is carrying niggles, Young is athletic enough to handle Cameron, with chop outs (looking at Cowan, Gov and Acres when he goes “high”). Third tall types Henry and Rowan need to be kept out of the game while dampening Cameron’s influence, that will be a key.

We need to starve their runners, so need improved ball security. Will be fascinating how we deploy Hollands. We are a runner short, so thinking LOB should be in the 22 if Martin rumours are true.

Repeat: We must not let their runners off the leash. A couple of their keys are under done at best, so expecting the upper hand there. Massive game for a couple of our outside types, another sub par effort could be very detrimental to a couple of careers.

there's five.....
I'll make a photo of it next time I go there - it is the one which has glass all along the front of it with all the various stuff they me on display and you can see the ladies rolling the dough on the right hand side mainly white coloured ( I think from memory opposite the corner French Bakery which people line up for to buy Croissants and other morning pastries as well as bread sticks) In the meantime here is a photo of van which I think makes ok-ish jam donuts for a good gobble price.

Hewett is a big out for us, hopefully others will step.

Stewart out for them is significant, Ratagolea looked wobbly one out down back.

Should be fun.👍
I thought Esava looked great.. against VERY mediocre tall forwards (Mihochek, McStay and Cox are VASTLY different to McKay, Curnow, TDK and Silvagni)

I don't know that he will do anywhere near as well against our talls. I reckon Kolo and Stewart really expose their defence and bringing Durdin back in along with an improved Motlop should bode well for a wet night.

Expect:
SDK - Harry
Esava - Charlie
Stanley or Blicavs to take TDK when he rests forward, more likely Blicavs - which limits their influence on transition

Do you think we will try to move the ball up the field faster tonight?

Scott said the following:

"Cooper Whyte will come in as a young player making his AFL debut and Jack Bowes will play as well. So they're the ins, and (Tom) Stewart is the out.

"We're not ready to communicate the other out at the moment. In any case, I'd rather focus on the exciting part"

That says there will be another out - and likely a key one. Probably SDK or Hawkins which structurally affects them significantly.

Either of those would be huge. That side that played against the Pies last week was already significantly weakened with Kolo, Henry and Stewart missing (Stewart might as well have missed) and Hawkins on one leg all game.

If Hawk or SDK miss entirely then they’ll be as vulnerable a Cats side that we’ll see all year.

If Geelong are well held in the middle they go outside through Smith - that is a key match-up. Both Rohan and Cameron drag defenders a long way down the field and then burst run back - Carlton doesn't have the running power in the back 6 to cover for that except Saad - so it will be interesting to see what the defensive plan is to counter that. I don't buy for one second (if they play) that Hawkins is sore and TDK's brother is proppy and if they are make them more sore and more proppy.

Big test for the Carlton on ball brigade missing Hewett and Walsh - I'm surprised Pittonet isnt playing to add to some clearance muscle - freeing up TDK and Jack more to be a point of difference for Carlton's attacking options.

My confidence in the smalls with or without Martin is as low as it gets so I am set for positive surprise there - but if Geelong win the territorial battle by winning the contests and clearances- they will be struggling to impact - again.

It seems that Vossy has to always play with one hand tied behind his back - who was the idiot that wrecked Cuningham's shoulder FFS - that really gave me the total S**** and whoever it was owes the CLub and his team mates - a LOT.

I feel this will fall the same way it did last year. Geelong will look the better for the first half but we hang on and have a good patch here and there to stay in it. 2nd half Geelong will put the foot down and we'll succumb to a 5 goal loss, as their cohesive team play and skills will outdo us.

The only way we can win this is a complete collective 22 all playing close to their best and not relying on a handful to do the job.

I like the optimists in here, sadly when it comes to this game, to our form of late, to the IQ of our players, to team selection, to our entrees into the forward 50, to our small forwards, the magicians in our team (the ones that keep performing disappearing acts) and to the loss of Hewitt ….. I only see dark clouds, very dark clouds.

Cats by 50+ points, over by quarter time.

We will be bullied as we always are. Our boys are men but the reality is they are still children in their demeanour and actions.

Until this changes, if it ever will we will never be serious contenders.

I will be there giving them my support as it’s the club and not the players I give my loyalty to.

Go Blues ….. please, please, please prove me wrong!
You might need counselling if we win.

Honey is coming in for Martin right? What's everyone think of that selection should it occur?
Emergency last week, showed some great signs in his first year and is the exact forward type with his speed power pressure we desperately need, can kick & create goals just hope he can now stay injury free, be great to see him recapture and build on the early form he showed…
Give him a block of games…

Jack Martin must have calves made of paper. Seriously.

I did notice last game he had ice on both calves and iirc both achilles/back of ankles. I thought it was just precautionary given his history but maybe some of it wasn't.
