The game style has completely changed & is really exciting i hope they dont go back into the old style any time soon. I know we have a lot of players out but this maybe a blessing in disguise as they are all tuned into the slow movement game. The new players are learning from scratch & are not changing from one style to another. If the older players do come back into the team they must change or be dropped to the WAFL.

Barrass getting towered up by another KPF
I posted about this on the Coach's votes thread, but think it is worth repeating here.
Looking at the AFL stats (which is actually quite detailed these days) Barrass had 7 contested marks (the next best for the game was Aliir with 3), 8 intercept marks (the next best was Aliir with 4), 9 spoils and of his 11 contested defensive one-on-ones (the next highest amount for the game was McKenzie with 4), he lost a total of 1 (that final Finlayson goal).
I mean that's a pretty monster game from Barrass and based on these statistics your very brief criticism seems unwarranted.
Despite his slowish start to the year Barrass now has contested more defensive one-on-ones that any other player in the competition in the first 6 weeks of the season. And he's lost less (per percentage) of these defensive one-on-ones than other big named defenders like Aliir Aliir, Sam Collins, Harris Andrews and Steven May.

His problem is against true key forwards. We must have another developing tall defender. If this frees up Tom to play his prefered role all the better. Harry may come good?

Too add to your point, Rotham was on Finlayson most of the time and one one instances Duggan or witho leaked an easy goal.

On rotham, i really like him and want him to make it but really disappointing how uncompetitive he is when he is man on a tall or heck even a player his size. We really miss the days when Shep could play on a tall and even a prime bunga doing that. His tank might bot be ready atm but think it’s time we play Bazzo for the rest of the year and/or even bring Jamo into the 22 as a defender

Rotham really lacks intensity. How often has he accelerated at a 50-50 contest to really smash in? I don’t think he ever has.To be quite frank he doesn’t like to put himself in danger.

Personally I've never forgiven Simpson for the Weagles Web in 2015. It's well and truly outdated.

It's always annoyed me.

He should be sacked immediately.
So this is Simpsons third distinct game style in his tenure at the club, by which I mean styles that even us non obsessed simpletons can recognise. The past two got us to Grand Finals, despite availability setbacks.

He has flaws as a coach no doubt but I think the idea that he can't implement and get his players to change styles is not one of them.

I think it's actually the 4th. He had something in 2014 that almost got us to finals (9th in the end) but they had to go to the Web in 2015 because of the injuries. Then we had 2018 and the current gameplan.

Bloody Richmond stole our spot after the Swans choked the last game. Then decided to kick against the wind against Port and the rest is history

Williams was much better, had a different intent to last week, like he actually wanted to pick up the ball this time. Made a couple of guys hurt which he can easily do more, he could be an absolute wrecking ball if he attacked the ball the way Jones goes at it. Don't think he had the bog performance most thought he had, but the coaches thought he was our best too, so. Hopefully he maintains the hunger.

You'd think Gaff had the worst game of his life going by the rhetoric on here, he had a poor last quarter so I'll assume that's what's sticking in people's minds. If you thought his game was that bad then I'd encourage a re-watch below, apart from the last quarter he did a lot more things right than wrong, he setup other guys heaps by hand which probably explains his low Metres Gained.

Don’t think it matters much as he’ll be passed by HEdwards and Bazzo.

Just like Witho will be passed by Hough and Cole.
Hough is interesting cause he seems to have a lot of upside but genuinely don’t know what his role is. Last year showed more playing wing/Hff than he has played as a defender. We actually need some young mid/small defenders coming through as we don’t have many that look like they can be elite lr at worst solid. Hough is 191cm and would be a good send if he could develop into a shep like defender that can defend all sorts of forwards and also provide some rebound

You could also say he was originally a rangy half back/wingman and now he's asked to play as a KPD without ever stopping being a half back/wingman.

Can't just snap ya fingers and change a players natural game because they've grown and gotten heavier.

i work with doctors every day, some of them are absolute dipshits. Arrogant, full of their own self importance, absolutely no social awareness that no one in the room wants to hear their theories on everything.

So TBF he could be a doctor.
Depends what you specialise in also.

One of my friends is a junior paediatric doctor and she's basically said don't bother asking her anything outside of her field, because she'll have no idea.

Obviously there's shared general knowledge but you're not going to take the advise of a GP over a doctor specialised in sports injuries.

I remember when I was playing footy, nearly 20 years ago. I had a lower leg injury above my ankle. Went to the doc and got diagnosed as tendonitis and advised to take anti-inflammatories.

Fast forward 7 weeks, still in pain. Went back to the GP and saw a different doctor, who sent me next door to the x-ray clinic. Turns out my fibula was actually clean broken but had luckily healed properly.

So yeah, not personally going to take the advice of a 'doctor' on sports injuries unless they specialise in that field.

My son has literally just had this happen. Rolled his ankle playing basketball, went to country hospital who told him it was just a sprain. Six weeks and ten physio appointments later comes to Perth and has an MRI because it’s still swollen and painful. Fractured malleolus, several tendons torn and an avulsion fracture. Needs surgery 🙄

Yep, I sure as shit won't be trusting a GP to correctly diagnose a sports injury anymore. Not without a lot of questions asked first.

I would expect someone who was a doctor to be able to more of a coherent sentence together though...

Hasn't been seen since not longer after his "doctor" claims

Agree that the Gaff slander can get a bit ridiculous on here sometimes.

It's a shame he isn't a bigger frame because he's elite at getting first hands on the ball at a stoppage and is usually clean by hand.

It's very noticeable he's tackling more and being more aggressive in the contest when he has to this year also. Some things I think we all wanted to see more of from him this year.

IMO the only real knock on him so far this year is his kicking penetration, which is approaching zac langdon levels. No confidence in him even from 40m out.

I don’t think the Gaff criticism is out of place.

It’s all relative. If he was on a contract more befitting of his contributions it would be fine. Similar comments can be made of McGovern, but at least when he’s fit, he performs to a high standard.

Gaff is going okay at times but he’s way too costly for the value he brings.

I agree that Gaff looks a lot better when he uses hands to link up.

Possibly more of a comment about how badly his kicking has dropped off unfortunately. He can probably handball with more penetration than he kicks atm :(

Through the lens of his contract then sure, he's absolutely under performing.

I'll admit I have no idea what his contract terms are so I'll take your word.
