I wonder if this is the first of more cancellations of these type of events. It is becoming clearer in the modern world these one off games events are increasingly difficult to stage with dwindling economic benefit.

It waters down the Olympics to have these BS games in between it. Olympics is the ultimate goal. In between you can have national titles, world champs etc.

Comm games is rubbish because it's just Australia vs England and NZ. Canada hardly bothers, and most of the other nations have bigger issues than elite sports.

England tend to be crap at stuff were good at, so it ends being a field similar to Australian champs, with a few randoms that aren't in the same league thrown in.

Why couldn't they slash costs by hosting it at existing venues in Melbourne & forgetting the whole regional angle? who cares, but a stupid idea anyway? I mean track 'n field in Ballarat lmao

Just hold it in Ballarat without any upgrades. If it's good enough for the Stawell gift it's good enough for these guys.

They could have the hockey at regional ovals with the spectators sitting in their cars honking.

Have the tennis at one of those local courts surrounded by chain link fence with a rusty door that swings in the breeze. The grass growing up through cracks in the surface add an extra element of difficulty.

They can do the rowing at Echuca on the Murray.

Replace the weightlifting with picking up bales of hay and tossing em over your shoulder.

I think you're onto something

Change it into a party style event, good fun, less serious, live music, people dont expect elite facilities. Probably get more people and do more for the following of the sports than any boring ass 'official event' would.

Ok my football dilligaf is at an all-time peak, but this really does look like it will be a hell of a round.

Whichever of Dogs and Bombers lose the Friday night game will likely drop out of the eight after the second game of the round that Richmond should win.

Carlton should then push the Saints out by beating West Coast.

Then a loss by Brisbane has their 3rd position in strife, but can Geelong win it at the Gabba.
Assume they do.

Will Freo then lose another in a row at home to Sydney? I'm assuming they turn it around.

At the same time we play Collingwood, I can't tip Port on the form of the last four weeks.

In the first Sunday game either the Giants jump into the 8 or the Suns win their elim final.
I'm assuming the Giants.

Melbourne then either take third spot over Brisbane on percentage or the Crows win what is their elimination final.

And to finalise things, the Saints jump back into the 8 at Norths expense, pushing Carlton back out.

Genuinely interesting round with nearly every game having a material effect on op 4 and top 8.

Maybe I do GAF this weekend.
A lot of interesting matchups on the way.

Was said to have been the deciding factor that lost the 1998 bid to Kuala Lumpur 😅

That was at the North Adelaide Aquatic Centre. Was so frustrating.

The reason they knew he broke the record was because of the timekeepers with their stopwatches, and at the time there were still records that stood that were based on the average of the timekeepers' stopwatches, before time pads became the norm in the late 60s early 70s.

This one was not allowed so tough luck House Man, off you go to be Kieran's bitch for the next few years.

Optics probably. The Herald Sun is predatory when it comes to anything the Labor government do. Can almost guarantee they’ll be critical of this decision even though they would’ve criticised going through with the massive price tag for the comm games.

I get really triggered about it being called wildcard round when there is nothing wild about it

Make it the best 2 percentages from the bottom 10 and then call it wild

Hey, he won gold at the Tokyo Pan-Pacs in ‘89 and Auckland Comm Games in ‘90 before becoming bridesmaid to the man who writes his name on his moojuice!

My enduring memory of Perkins is his half naked and overtly pantomime performance in the Uncle Toby’s ad.

Girl catches ball.
[pause]
“Kick it to me”
[jazz hands]

I thought it was Dan Kowalski who was forever in Perkins's shadow?

Plummer — McKenzie
Housman — Perkins
Perkins — Housman
Perkins — Kowalski
Hackett — Perkins
Hackett — Stevens

And don’t forget that South African chap from Muriel’s Wedding

i miss the days when we used to dominate that event. make swimming great again!

still pissed off at the roid cheater who beat hackett.. i think it was the olympics? hate when some guy comes outta nowhere and beats their PB by about 10 seconds. sus af fam fr fr

it was that campaigner from tunisia that got busted for cheating. at the next olympics he was 27 seconds slower and didn't even make the final lol. should have been stripped and given to hackett.

and then there was that yang campaigner who also got banned for cheating..

i feel like Sydney 2ooo was a case of ‘completed it mate’, have scarcely watched the Olympics since save for Boomers games — when I was a kid I automatically treated the Games with the reverence Stan Zemanek had for trust fund billionaires
