Going roper dope on this one (collingwood model) and playing more numbers behind the ball to firm up our defence, then gut run and slingshot. Id start Finlayson on a wing at the deepest defensive end of the square with a view to getting back if we lose centre. Finlayson can play the old Westhoff role as a defensive interceptor and drift forward if where winning stoppages. We will lose this, if its an open free running shootout.
I think our backline is so depleted and putrid we need to utterly smash them in the midfield, lock it in forward & kick a cricket score myself.

We’re typically pretty shit after a bye so maybe this is the way we get there. Beat the Giants and then go to the G with zero pressure on us and do it the hard way.

I don’t actually believe this as we were so thoroughly smacked by Brisbane, but it’s also the sort of shit this team might pull when no one is watching.

Probs not though.

I was curious how common this path is and in the past 10 years, it's happened 5 times - Hawks in 2014, Sydney in 2016, Collingwood in 2018 and both Geelong and Richmond in 2020. It's more common than I thought. But did any of those teams look as awful as we did Saturday night in that first game? As you put it, probs not.

We need to think about not just this game but the next couple (optimistic I know).

If McKenzie isn't right play Finlayson or Marshall in defence. Bring in Dixon and Evans/Fantasia forward.

Drop McEntee and possibly DBJ irrespective. Coaches might like the team things they do but imagine if those guys lined up against us. Would we be worried by McEntee/DBJ or Fantasia more?

Bonner for Williams.

I think a team that gets smashed by 40-50 points, must make some unforced changes. Also with no SANFL side playing if we have more injuries, our depth will need some game time.
I’d go:

Marshall out, Dixon in
Williams out, Boak in
Mcentee out, Orazio in.
Duursma out, Narkle in.

If Trent out, Finlayson back, Frankie in

Duursma sub.

If we do happen to win this do we know when we'll be going to the guillotine against Collingwood.
The Friday night, consecutive 6 day turnarounds.

Melbourne/Carlton will get the 8 day turnaround vs Brisbane, then the shorter turnaround for the GF.

There is a reason why Collingwood always play the Friday night in the last H&A game.

The life of an elite sportsman is about playing thru pain, most teams have players carrying something at this time of the year. I noted Max Gawn is playing with a broken toe but was still close to bog on the weekend. No excuses please.

How dare we try and win in an elimination final. Maybe rest them for next week?

Nobody could seriously believe we're any chance against Collingwood, the desperation to win this week is purely to give Daddy a little moment in the sun.

It's not just Daddy that wants to win and needs a little moment in the sun. I need a sugar hit.

We all know first hand that anything could happen in a prelim.

You don't leave any stone unturned for this weekend, put it all on the line and hopefully we get a crack at the Pies the following friday night.
