Training Pre-Season 2024

Thilthorpe looks noticeably bigger in his shoulders and chest. That's good.
After a completing the preseason, I expect him to get a bit bigger as well. Good to see it hasnt effected his mobility judging from the highlights.

The AFL players usually hit the weights hard over summer and then taper off before R1.

Is there a 2024 injury thread up yet? I've kinda lost track..... who is on the long term injury list? Is it just Murray and Shoey? Or are there more who will not get a full pre-season?
Himmelberg .. expected he'll be back to full training after Xmas

Coming off of that hamstring injury late in the season

Saw on the news last night that Port started preseason yesterday, too. This despite them playing 2 finals, so their season went 3 weeks longer than ours. Aren't they supposed to start preseason 3 weeks later? Or has the new CBA basically set the same start date for everyone no matter when their season finished?
I believe all clubs are now back at least the younger 1-4 years in system brigade

My understanding is our SANFL team making a prelim has pushed back at least a decent part (the SANFL) players starting times for preseason (due to CBA) and the club decided to start everyone at the same time rather than in staggered stages

Lance looks slim there compared to jars and Dew.
I once saw Whitnell at wet n wild at gc with his family. No top on.

Should have had a top on.
I probably shared the story of my neice attending St Hildas on GC (exclusive girls college) a few years ago. At the info night, my brother and sister in law could hardly see the stage as right in front of them was a pretty solid structure who my brother swore ate constantly for 2 hours straight. Pastries, lollies/chocs etc. Only after a while did they determine it was S Dew.

Jars actually really trimmed down in his playing days I thought compared to Dew and Whitnall - both who always carried puppy fat. Full credit to DJ for being disciplined at the most crucial stage of his life when he needed to.

Feel sorry for people like Dew, there's clearly something going on upstairs causing them to eat uncontrollably.

and the club determining his physicality / aggression needed more work than his running doing boxing etc. If he turns beast mode (see Power game round 3 last year and even debut where he flies for every mark believing he can grab it), he basically can become our most important player - and there is now some VERY stiff competition for this title going forward

A strong theory with some evidence is that there is a lack of satiety hormones in the gastrointestinal system so hunger is never satisfied

Correct.

While I do pride myself for being healthy and fit, I also understand how some may and do put on weight.

Life be it work, family etc can get in the way, not to mention getting older.

No person however though should be getting to Dew's level of weight gain. He is the very definition of morbidly obese.

Dew's weight gain didnt happen over night, he has "worked" for years to gain that weight.

Even in his final playing days, he was "heavy".

Its only the past couple of years, Ive got my weight totally under control and have a healthy BMI.

I would say the key issues at least for me to having a healthy BMI are:

Understanding Calories In/Calories Out
Exercise
Weighing myself every day
Really understanding food and its nutritional value
Sleeping properly and finally and most importantly
Fasting, once a week for 30 to 36 hours.

I would love for him to be physically intimidating like how Fog is. You never want to be hit by the Fog Train.

I think TT can develop the capacity to be that and also maintain his agility and speed under Burgess.

Good to see that Jones will be available, I wasn't sure about him. He finally came good towards the end of this season.
Im fairly certain Tassie will come hard for him when it comes time assemble their squad, prime age with experience and a local.

They will. It doesn't mean he'll go though. Crows will be contenders then hopefully so why would he want to go to a potential wooden spoon side??

Got bored last night. Thought I'd take a look at what our 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 list could look like from a games played, age demographic.
Took artistic license to include Hayward (free agent) and Oliver (Trade) in the 2024 offseason (could plug someone else in - hopefully), Petty in 2025 offseason (free agent) and Lukosius (2026 free agent).

Zeros indicate player no longer on list.

For the player, "go home" is probably a fair way behind opportnity (shouldn't be a consideration here), $ and success when considering moving clubs.

I wonder how many of the first movers to Gold Coast regretted their move at the end of their careers?

Tasmania will be rubbish in its first few years, and players will have learnt from the GWS and GC expansion models. So if we are pushing for a flag and paying him ok, I doubt he goes. If we aren't contending, the compo we would get is probably not the worst outcome.

Pick 1 in the mini draft has a nice ring to it
TBH I think we will get a better result if he does go, be it using that pick to bring in someone with more talent than him.

Will be interesting how he progresses over the next few years.

Outside this years draftees who are the best Tassie players in the league?

That's where we will fall in the mini draft / pick compensation.

^ great work

Really is slim pickings

Trying to retain talent is going to be a nightmare in Tassie. Was hard enough retaining kids on the GC when they could run amok with relative anonymity.
