Still looks fragile to me.
He is not going to get past the first round of MR Universe anytime soon. Not that I am that worried as I think the best version of him will be to stay mobile and have a bit of an outside game. I doubt he is a regular KP player until he is 25 or so. His last couple of match sims have looked okay. He has to prove how much he wants it and how much he wants to compete as far as getting involved and not spending periods of games where he will not make an impact.

Anyone else think he could make a really good intercept half back flanker/defender?
he has good kicking skills and good footy IQ i think he could excel in this position

Well that’s what he should be and why he was drafted top 10. How many years will it take the coaches to figure it out though, he said on a podcast recently he prefers playing in defense. But hey let’s keep playing him on a wing.

The only issue I have with it is I spent about three years saying we should play Francis in this role, only to be told every time that we can’t because Ridley plays that role.

Stop playing him on the bloody wing you ******* drop kicks !
It’s getting to the point that all you can do is laugh. Literally the only people who can see he isn’t a winger/ isn’t comfortable playing on the wing/ loses confidence playing on the wing - is the essendon coaching staff. The minute he goes a plays in the backline he actually looks a decent footballer. They’ve done it to cox and now they’re going to do it to tsatas.

Get rid of Stringer...throw Ridley fwd to play the Bruest/Gunston medium tall elite role with him and Langers, making room for Cox down back. Perhaps.

It’s easier then that just make Cox D7. When Reid/Ridley/McKay are on the bench he’s the extra tall defender. That’s about 60% game time there. Maybe a touch more if it goes well and you feel Ridley could play more HB and less 3rd tall.

Then Laverde to VFL

Or, hear me out, we play multiple intercept players in defence. Controversial, I know.

What I don't get is it's every coaching panel

Francis - dicked around
Langford - dicked around
Cox - dicked around

Martin being pushed back
Parish's years at HF
Knights' Lloyd on a wing thought bubble

It enforces the sentiment we've not recruited well to fill positions properly

I think Ridley played forward at times before he was drafted. Not the worst idea, but yesterday's game was the onr to try it out. At least Ridley would have a defensive mindset in the forwardline.

Cox was actually fine not a great game but serviceable. Some of his quick hands in tight were nice and he took a couple of intercept marks too.

All the People complaining about him playing on the wing instead of down back, it should be reminded that unless McKay, Ridley, reid, leverde go down and cox plays one of their roles that the extra defender is usually required to chop out on the wings.

Cox has become essendons whipping boy. Compare it to Reid’s game that was plauded, was it actually that different?

Ant has been saying that there has been no one forward of the ball that can mark well (especially down the line), which I think most of us agree it has been a problem for a few years, he has the best set of hands in our team. If our coaches are not willing to play Cox back because maybe they see that as too tall, maybe its a way that it might happen. Doubt it though.

Laverde is pretty average, and has played 100 games so is father son eligible. There’s really no reason to go with him over cox to start the season should everyone be healthy.

Fine as far as he did a few things yes. Not so fine that he was also out of position a lot and he runs himself into the ground because he does not understand how to play the wing. With Reid he had limited touches but he did his number 1 role and that was defend. I have been a big fan of Cox. He can play but having a very very close look at him over the last 3 years he is at the stage where he has to decide how much he wants it and the coaches are at the stage where they need to play him at half back or half forward and not the wing where he has been at sea a lot of the time.
