Will Fagan stay if they fall over again ?

I cant see it.

The window has closed for them after this year.

They might clear some players to freshen up the list.

Cam Raynor to go along side Lewis might be nice.

He is lazy but talented.

So many big bodies on that list.

Just what we need.
No thanks, he is just a more hyped MaCdonald but had more years in the system.

Glad people have come round to the idea that we need to stay in the draft a bit longer. Mcluggage going nowhere. Smith in for f1 works we need speed in that midfield. Get an elite mid with our first or split it for needs.
Last point. Stop talking about Jaeger omeara FFs!

Add Josh Smillie, Bailey Smith (F1), Day, CJ, DGB to the side and we’re a completely different side.

Mostly agree take Finn Osullivan over smilie we have smilie types osullivan is a POD for us. And goes some way to getting me over not getting Connor osullivan last year!

DGB? Really?

CJ hasn't shown enough to suggest he will make it. Has potential.

Need FA's and more than 2, - 3 would be ideal.

It was going to be tough getting MacKay - Ess close to NM and he wouldn't need to change too much of his daily routine as travelling to Dingley would.

Need to offer more now to get people in the door then hopefully the results bring people in.

CJ was arguably our best and most exciting talent two years ago. It’s just health with him. I still wouldn’t give up on DGB. They take time. If not we still got McCabe developing.

Do we know when pick purchasing is coming in? Or when it's rumoured to be brought in? I'd be more comfortable in giving up 1st rounders knowing we can buy back in with our cap space.

Some posters here might be jumping at shadows after 3 game but the club has a clearly outlined strategy that won’t change just because we’re 0-3 in 2024.

We won’t be trading out players to hit the draft. We will either hold our first or trade it out for player or players of need.

“Hitting the draft” for top 30 picks like we wanted to do in 2021, 2022 and 2023 is behind us now.

Massive hypothetical, but if we could split a top 2/3 pick and net us Baz AND Holmes I'd say we would be only a year away from seriously contending.
I'd be throwing a lot of money at Holmes and would be backing our KPP to come good with natural development

Yep, You can really only do that when you have players that are older then the list profile you want but other clubs want or are surplus to needs.

In reality we should have done that years earlier in 2017 and 2018. Instead of trading out picks for in 22-24 year olds trying to skip development of players. Once threepeat era was over and Lewis, Mitchell, Lake, Hodge, Burgoyne etc... could no longer take us we could have traded out players still in prime and fresh off a threepeat and demanded good value. He gave up Hill for chips when I would have fought like hell to keep him, and been trading 26-27 year olds, McEvoy, Frawley, Gunston, Rioli, Stratton, Birchall, (roughead if he were healthy). A few of those types over the years to get 3-4 top 30 picks 3 years in a for from 17-19.

Battle is an unrestricted FA. Get it done.
Melican is a RFA. Make him an offer that he can’t turn his back on.

Baz gives us pace and class from the stoppage. Get it done.

I’d be happy with that.

Baz and pick 2/3 > Baz and Holmes

AFL isn't a management sim video game where every trade you make is a "fleece". If you want to get talent across to the club, you pay up. Whether the value is worth it or not is a fair discussion to have. But acting as though you should only ever make trades that you 100% win is ridiculous and not a reflection of reality.

Can I please ask SYL if we do finish in the bottom 3 will our strategy change.

Like maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves or it’s the path now and nothing will change it.

As if you really think about it we had more young talent on our list after the 2001 draft then we do now.

Buying picks will help a lot. We either trade aggressively or we target specific picks.

If we can get Smith and one of Smilie or O'Sullivan we will be set in the midfield.

I'd be looking to give Melican a four year deal. Melican, Battle and Blank can work. Sicily needs to be free.

Weddle needs to be pushed up the ground.

Still need another key forward. That's the question for us, how are we going to achieve this?

Can't be stubborn and not flexible if the strategy isn't coming together as first thought. Thats Clarko planning.

Besides - If we keep finishing bottom 4 we keep hitting the draft.

Talk of binning the strategy at Round 4 is not being flexible, it’s being knee-jerk.

In 2001 perhaps half of the list if not all were unproven but exciting talent though… at any one time there are a section of the list who are in this in-between. Sewell and Young off rookie lists around that time as well.

While pick purchasing is still to come, I hope we can save a stash and use the rest on Battle, Baz etc. Does anyone have any idea how we can have the cap space keep rolling? Pay Sicily and Day huge amounts up front? Is the accounting that simple?

We should hit the draft hard for one last year, assuming we finish somewhere from 18-16th. Imagine if we got another gun like Newcombe or Day. See if we could unload another team’s cap space for a first round pick while signing Battle.

It won’t, because the amount of talent that we identified we already had on the list has not changed.

As Nelk points out above, we have a couple of holes to fill, and we all know what they are. Key forward, Key Defender and some more pace through the middle.
