Don't mind those changes - yes it's a challenge to Draper and Davies. But Ryan has shown previously that he can be the general of an undermanned backline.

Ultimately down to the mids to win the centre square battle - easy to forget that we largely matched them for much of the Cam Mac game (we just couldn't hit the side of a barn up forward when it mattered.)

The 4.15 thing was overstated. "Smoked at the contest" where we ... pressure from Swans lead to the poor kicking. Expect the same this time round . Our best chance is Swannies (do you know why they are called Swans - look it up, it's interesting) are due an off day ...

Because they had so many WA players in their 50’s ish premiership team

I'm surprised to see people saying Hughes, I think he is generally serviceable but he is no where near KPP height. I guess Luke can play KPP but still Sydney have three talls so you want Davies, Draper and Ryan/chapman who can play tall in a pinch. its not ideal but thats what we got left.

Hughes is 188cm, Ryan 186cm

Sydney in Sydney with Davies & Draper as our 2 tall KPD looks mission impossible but I'm intrigued to see how it'll play out.

Can't leave them isolated that would be a disaster so I'm interested to see what the do to cover for them.

I had a look at the line up and other than Draper and Davies, who are really just unknown quantities, it’s a strong side on paper. If we can get more from the forwards in Amiss, Jacko and Freddy, I think we’ll be right in it. Sturt is the mid-sized forward we’ve been crying out for and he’s in form. As is Treacy. I was lamenting the mids earlier, but Serong, Brayshaw and Young are good enough. Fyfe and Omeara will need to lift. Darcy and Jacko should be able to wear Grundy down. There’s still a lot of quality in the backs. Davies didn’t **** up the last game leaving Draper to just do a job. We’ll be right in it if we’re switched on and the smaller ground will suit our need for a team defence.

We are going to try & make this a very dour game. Forwards will play high, mids clogging the D50. Mids cannot allow easy centre clearances or the plan will go out the window. Once centre bounce is done a forward will come up to the contest & try to create a +1 at the contest.

Has to be slow Sydney ball movement with long kick in to their F50 & do not allow our young key backs to be isolated 1v1 if Draper & Davies are both lining up. 3rd man up at all Sydney forward half entries & excess numbers at ground level. Fast ball movement & we are extremely exposed down there.

Attacking will be trying to use our smaller half forwards speed & get them over the back. Treacy will be competing a lot at half back & Amiss will play higher than he ever has with Jackson using his mobility in between. Get the feeling Jackson will do a fair bit of rucking.

Try to stay in the game for as long as possible would be my guess, not really any other way to go about it I think.

He's tougher than Tom Lynch. Charlie Dixon, that's just an insult.

Was sub last week.
Feel like the coaches are keeping an eye on Fyfe and JOM and will sub accordingly. Pearce getting injured obviously changed that plan
He was sub when we had less defenders and more mids/forwards in the team. Having midfield rotations is critical. You don't win many games with only six specialist mids - you need more rotations.

It was always going to happen.
We haven't recruited an indigenous player on our seniors since Alex pearce ??
It's the bit that gets lost in the debates on NGA, there's already been public comments about how at least some recruitment teams will play it safe when faced with a choice between two equally rated players, picking the one that comes from a "stable" environment.

Due to many reasons that's on balance going to disadvantage indigenous recruitment, and one of the things I love about AFL is the incredible skills our indigenous people have brought to our home grown game over a long period.

There should be some counteracting measures, otherwise the ongoing march of professionalisation will greatly reduce one of those special points of our game.
